Hats!

Postby Ati » Sat Sep 06, 2008 4:25 am UTC

So, I'm thinking of becoming a hat person. You know the type.

My preference would be top hat, but I don't think I have the style to pull it off on a daily basis. Baseballs caps are more appropriate, but distasteful. After reading Watchmen, I've settled on Fedora as a compromise.

The trouble is, that I'm not sure I have the face to be a hat person. This is me:

So, what's your stance on hats? Are you a hat person? What's your preference on size, style, and color?

Fedoras work well on a lot of people. Have you bought/tried on such a hat? Also, I think there's already a hat thread.

Anyone can pull off a top hat. I would avoid baseball hats, they offer no class.

I think you have a good face shape for fedoras.

I also think a fedora will work on you.

My only reason for not having one myself is my head is freakishly large, and purchasing hats that fit is difficult.
Why is it that 4chan is either infinitely awesome, infinitely bad, or "lolwut", but never any intermediary level?

Apparently I don't, because until I read further I was picturing this type:

You could totally pull off a fedora. But I say just try on a bunch of different styles until you find one you like.

I used to be a hat person, to the point where people would comment if they saw me without one. I didn't wear the same one every day; I had about a dozen very different ones. I can't wear them much anymore, sadly, due to skin condition. Otherwise I was planning to become a cloche person. That probably wouldn't work for you, though...

Hats are nice:) Wouldn't it be awesome if everybody was wearing hats, like in the good ol' days?

But even more on-topic, I definatly think you could wear a fedora

I have two hats that are not quit elike fedoras, but close. One you can see in my avatar (or in a pic in the face thread). It has a fairly wide, staight brim. The other one is mad eof felt and the brim curved upwards quite a bit.

As an experiment before I purchase any hats, I used my awesome powers of photoshop to render myself in both a Fedora and a bowler- behold!

Personally, I think the bowler looks better, although that may have more to do with my photoshopping than with the hat itself.

If you wear the bowler you need a cane and a small mustache. Yes, Charlie Chaplin joke.... move along....

The photo-bowler does look very nice, but I think fedoras are spiffier in general. Why don't you bring a friend and a camera with you into a hat shop?

<-hat person. seriously, i'm thinking about getting a fedora with a really wide brim. i think that would be awesome, especially if you wore a duster or trenchcoat with it. but you look like a bowler type of person, just don't forget the cane.
