Chess + Roller Coaster

Postby poruas » Tue Sep 16, 2008 7:13 pm UTC

I thought I'd add this to the list of successful attempts. Since the camera was so high, the first time around you couldn't see the board in the picture. The board actually ripped halfway through the first attempt; this is us trying to hold it together (after some of the glued pieces actually came flying off) and make another go at it.

It was taken at Busch Gardens in Virginia.

HAHA! Well done!

I've had girls in my group pose as though they're fixing their lipstick on these roller coasters. It doesn't usually go well though.

You should see some of the reactions I've unintentionally provoked from people who were unaware that en passant is a legal move.

I've only ever had the opportunity to do that once to someone who didn't know about it, but it was well worth it. They were like "What are you doing? That's not a legal move".

@The pic: Pretty awesome. The guy on the left needs to pay more attention to the game. That's one odd game if all the pieces required to play are just outside the bottom corner.

I must try this.
See, on Halloween, my Physics and Engineering class (high school) are going to 6 Flags, Magic Mountain, I believe.
How to execute it... Probably need a cheap chessboard, a tube of superglue, and another XKCD geek. All I need's a cheap chessboard.
More later, and if you all have suggestions, I'll hear em.

Wow, tech support did not help me, I was on for 30 minutes trying to get my scanner to work, but still nothing. I have the picture! While talking to tech support I did learn that if you hold a cat up to a subwoofer while listening to happy hardcore they go crazy.

Well I think I have it going.....

YES IT IS WORKING!! Now I can scan my face, my feet, my cats, whatever!

To the picture... I was wearing a Guy Fawkes mask because I was with school, didn't want to get kicked out and have to wait on a bus....

I have encountered this quite a bit at my chess club, though our team does not have it when we travel; other competitive teams tend to actually know the rules... But for this very reason, I now keep my USCF Official Rules of Chess in my backpack. It comes in handy, if only for the times when you have to beat some sense into someone.

I haven't played chess in a very long time, but I occasionally got the chance to use that move on someone who didn't know about it. Those people were very confused. :D
