Re: How Long Would You Survive With A Raptor?

Postby mrbaggins » Wed Apr 22, 2009 9:09 am UTC

Given the diagram, and a completely immovable bunk bed, I would move to right such that my 7 foot chain was fully extended. As can be seen in the diagram, the raptor is an additional several feet away, thus leading to death by starvation / thirst. If I starve first, I have survived approximately 3 days. If the raptor starves before this time, I am of the belief that the raptor will be edible, thus prolonging death.

If the above technique wouldn't work, I would probably sacrifice my right foot the raptors gaping maw. Once this appendage has been removed, I am no longer tethered and would hop to relative safety.

Edit for reading the whole story... "The bed is light enough to drag it a little." So, first idea is out. Good bye right foot. It has been fun.

1 minute, 16 seconds.

I doubt I could last that long.

47 seconds, apparently. Doubt it, if there was a Raptor that close I'd probably scream and pass out where I stood.
At least this would make my death painless and the Raptor's life a little easier.

Edit:

You think if they can learn to open doors they can't learn to pull chains?

This was my first thought when i originally saw this, but the quiz didn't allow it IIRC. Clearly the best way to survive, unless raptor-dragging-bed is faster than hopping-bleeding-human.

1:22 according to their tests...

considering there is usually at least one loaded gun under any bed i sleep in....i'd say i would survive longer than that....though they didn't ask that question

If it's able to pull it's 7 foot chain and make it longer, we have far more to fear from raptors than just their cunning and ability to open doors.

This entire thread has just put an image in my mind of having a chain around my ankle. And a Raptor putting its claws in the links of said chain to pull me closer.
Thanks, bigarchguy. I won't have trouble sleeping at all.

60 seconds, but my composure in the face of such threat would possibly be different. The results are particularly variant on whether it's veloci-, utah- etc.

Quite frankly, that is not possible. The parameters of the quiz are slightly off; the raptor is assumed to have only a tiny portion of the normal power of a raptor.

Ahh well I reverse engineered the quiz and rebuilt it including such questions as :
Do you carry an elephant gun?
Do you get around in a personal forklift unit ala Ripley in Aliens?
Are you in fact a tyrannosaurus?

...ups the odds significantly.

1 minute & 25 seconds.

Honestly, they should take into acount whether you habitually carry a gun. I imagine that could turn the tide in the human's favor.

I think the idea is that it'd pull your chain to bring you closer, not pull its chain to make it longer...

I don't know how I ended up in this thread, but the test says I could last for 1 minute and 25 seconds. I would like to know what exactly they're doing to calculate these times and how they expect anyone survived long enough to chain a raptor to a bed.

54 seconds. I tested all the different bunks. From best to worst: top, floor, bottom.

EDIT: 1 minute 60 seconds appears to be the maximum, and the minimum is 6 seconds.

My secondary thoughts. The first thing that I thought of was 'what is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the raptor and the floor. Maybe I could run around the bed and he would lose his footing.

The quiz gave me 1:38 BTW.
