The Firefox Plugin of Pure Awesomeness

Postby CheckYourInput » Wed Dec 17, 2008 5:53 am UTC

So Firefox 3 has this feature that if you go to the Add-ons menu, you get some recomendations. I was recommended the 'AutoPager' plugin.

The AutoPager plugin basically takes those annoying multi-page articles and turns them into one-pagers. I thought it was pretty cool.

Then I came to xkcd.com
I read a random comic and experienced what I can only describe as drinking liquid awesomeness from a beer-helmet.
The plugin frikkin works with xkcd! And gives me all the xkcd goodness I need in one page. I just have to scroll down and woopty there is the next xkcd strip!

I wonder if it works with wikipedia too...

Works on QC, too.

Sonds like a sound thing, the clicking to a new page every 35 sec is way too much exercise for a nerd like me. besides, it's not very convenient. Do chrome have some kind of response to this?

Does it?

If so, it didn't work for me... All of the multipage topics I visited stayed on their seperate pages...

It asked me something strange, I clicked yes, and was soon scrolling through the pages.

The whole thing seemed rather complicated. I couldn't make head or tails out of the "options" it provided.

I see no such add-on. I searched "AutoPager" and "Auto Pager" and nothing like what you say came up.

Looks great. Now if only there were a download button on that page.

And you're lucky I was able to find out what an .xpi was, because it wasn't opening with Firefox automatically. It had to ask me what to open it with.

EDIT: And now I see that it is way to confusing to configure and if I try to use it with the XKCD forum, it asks me what page I want to display next (what happens when you click "Go to page").

I downloaded it, but when I have it turned on and I'm browsing the fora the "jump to post" thing doesn't work. Rather than taking me to the post I want to go to it takes me to the top of that page.

It doesn't seem to work with xkcd for me... hmm.

Any sort of setup needed beyond clicking "Ok"?

Be sure to update the add-on after installing. The link I gave wasn't to the latest, but trying the link to the latest from their site bombed for me.

Nice idea, but really complicated. I couldn't figure out how to get it to work with these forums.

There... is? It doesn't work with anything but Firefox...
And to all you whining about how complicated it is, straight out of the install whenever I first go somewhere that it can be used, a box pops up saying (for example) "AutoPager found a setting for garfieldminusgarfield.net from Janko.
Do you want to enable auto paging on this site using it?". Click yes, don't click more options, and you're good! I assume Janko is the person who created the rules that allow it to use garfieldminusgarfield.

An alternative to using this extension (which gets irritating if you have it on all the time) is to just have the comic in your rss feeds in Google Reader. Scrolling is all dandy and fast and easy there too.

The confusing one. I think you should pick a different fence.

I used it for a while, but its handling of DeviantArt pages was horrible! New artist = "Do you want to enable Auto Pager?". I uninstalled it a couple of days later. Yes, configurable and all But I didn't have the patience to learn.

I started using it too, so far so good. I'd like to know if it would be easy to port things like phpbb to sites that don't have autopager settings already made for them.

Yeah, it's not got a lot of things set up for it, but there's no reason to not have it running for all the awesome things it does support. Like youtube, xkcd, various forums, cyanide and happiness, garfield minus garfield... the list goes on and on. Sure, there are some things where I'm like WHY DOESN"T IT SUPPORT THIS, but the times when I'm like AWESOME< IT SUPPORTS THIS way outweigh those.
