I understand that that is teeny but all i had on hand was a lego camera, which is really like a quickcam from the ninties.
Man but it's still on its lego stand i built for it

My eyes sort of change colors with context, like if i have a very green shirt on one day they will look green, but as a default they are blue. Sometimes there's like a clearly defined yellow ring around the middle and a darker blue ring around the outside edge but you can't see either of those by webcam.

A friend of mine has very dark eyes like yours, podbaydoor. I kind of really like them, a whole lot.
edit: you can sort of see the outside ring

As of late, my eye has had yellow/gold in it. I didn't notice this before when I took photos of my eye. So I took two more. It makes sense more now why I can get so many colors out of my eyes depending as to what I wear...the only color I don't see in them in purple! (which, btw, someone here must have violet eyes, I had a friend in middle school who had one violet eye and one blue eye, very cool.)

What's the secret to getting a good picture? I spent like, 20 minutes wrangling my camera and couldn't get anything even vaguely decent.

Have a strong light turned on, but try to turn it away from your eye to avoid getting a big reflection. Eyes are so shiny. Flash might work, I'm not sure. If your camera won't focus really close to your eye (try putting it on macro setting if you have it, the setting for pictures of flowers and stuff), take one that's slightly further away and then crop the photo. Small is better than blurry, and if you crop it and then increase the size you should get something good.

That's all the advice I can offer. Hope we get to see your eye/s! :D

In my case, a clean mirror, a bright light, and steady hands. Most people don't have a camera with a lens that'll do a 1:2 macro at five feet, though.

Specific things that might help:
1) Use plenty of light. Direct sunlight is good. So are multiple hundred-watt lightbulbs at close range. Don't bother with the flash: you're going to be closer than the minimum effective range for it.
2) Use a boring background. A white wall is good -- you don't want things reflecting in your eye.
3) Use macro mode. Put your camera as close to your eye as you can while a) it's still able to focus on it, and b) you aren't poking your eye out.
4) Try zooming all the way in and all the way out. One or the other will produce the largest image, which depends on your camera.

Once you've taken the picture, there are some tricks you can do to make it look better. Open it in an image-manipulation program such as Photoshop or the GIMP, and try the following:
1) Levels adjust. Autoadjust will usually do the right thing: correct the white balance and brightness.
2) Unsharp masking with a large radius (50-75) and a small amount (0.1-0.2). This will enhance the contrast, making the image look brighter.
3) Unsharp masking with a small radius (1-5) and a moderate amount (0.3-0.5). This will enhance the contrast of edges, making the image look sharper.

Oh dear I hope that didn't turn out too big or something.
Edit: It did. Why can't I find anything useful for resizing photos? Photobucket has gone and died on me or something, not only did it not let me copy the URL (had to type it, bleh), but now it is lying to me about size? [/rant]

It's a bit less clear that big, but not to bad a quality I think.
