Moral Relativity

Postby Shoofle » Wed May 17, 2006 4:14 am UTC

Assuming an infinite amount of rationalization is impossible (because it would, in fact, take forever to convince yourself of) the only way something could travel at the speed of light would be if it had no moral thought at all.
I call such particles "morons."

Personally, I had long been wondering why it was that I tended to like rap better while driving, and I'm glad someone had the answer. Although I'm not sure the theory holds re: my appreciation for Ludacris' "Move, Bitch" when I'm stuck behind someone going the speed limit or less.

This completely explains the whole mile high club phenomenon.....

James: I'm pretty sure that that's just one of those situations provided for by the brand-new theory of "Special Moral Relativity."

You guys are forgetting that rap actually sounds best when driving through the middle of town at about 15 miles per hour, with all the windows down, some homies in the back, decked out in bling.

Ahh, but it should be noted that if you do enough pot, 15 mph *feels* like it's really fast. I'm pretty sure that counts.

Yes, but for the people on the street kindly going about their own business, it is a distraction. Of course, they are not going as quickly, so it is all relative.

Inversely Proportional

Postby maverick_swl » Mon Jun 05, 2006 3:56 pm UTC

Shouldn't the graph show an inverse proportionality? Cause right now, the faster you go, the more rationalization you have. And infact, as shown, as you approach the speed of light, you become infinately rational.
should look more like a line starting at 100% Rationalization, and curving down towards no Rationalization.

But infinite rationalization wouldn't be infinite rationality -- it would be infinite making-of-excuses-for-something-you-know-is-wrong.

Correct.

If you were a vulcan, we could believe that, but I have no proof that you are. However, if you were to tell me that you were doing 150 mph when you drew the comic, I'm willing to let it slide.

Hang on, this could be what is wrong with humanity as a whole. If driving at, say, 80mph, you start to lose a sense of morals (hence rap music), what about being stationary? Surely you would be totally moral, right? No.

I fruitlessly tried to google the speed of Earth's orbit (there were a varied amount of answers to say the least), but lets just say it is very quick. Does that mean we are all immoral, or is it just that extra 80mph or so that makes us commit such atrocities as rap? If you drive against the spin of the earth, do you become more moral? Or is this theory based on your speed relative to your surroundings?

On the brighter side, what if we suspended some chap in a space pod thingy, away from any planet, at 0mph in relation to the universe - would he spontaneously become Jesus?

On the darker side, what if in the future we make a time machine that works by accelerating someone at beyond the speed of light - would he lose all sense of morals? Maybe we did it? Maybe Hitler was an ambassador from the future?

Anyway, that's enough question marks for one post.

It's inversely proportional to how far we are from the sun (equal areas in equal times, yo). Therefore, people are more evil during winter months when we are closer to the sun.

More evil in the winter eh? Hmmm, does that make Santa some kinda paradox then?

Santa would be a corrective measure that has arisen by cultural evolution. By inventing the "Christmas spirit" idea, society is able to raise the moral expectations, and so the excess evil does not cause a measurable increase in absolute evil, only in how bad we are relative to an ideal person.
