Heh, you guys don't have access to edit everybody's posts, so you can't see what people are trying to say.

Bleh, I find the word alteration tasteless. I understand the concept here, but when it messes shit up in forums like Dear SB with serious, sensitive topics, you have to wonder how much it’s really worthwhile.

According to one recent Dear SB thread, it saved someone's life, so perhaps it is worthwhile. At any rate, everything will revert soon, so you won't have to be offended for very long.

Oh good there's going to be a revert.

It was really funny when it was a few things but it's actually getting hard to communicate now.

EDIT: It's really things like l0ve becoming love that throw the conversation way off. I've had a couple PMs now where we'll be talking about something, and while the original writer intends to say "I l0ve the way you think" it comes out as "I love the way you think" sort of thing that makes the conversation sort of tough to follow.

Of course, r3lationship becoming relationship is pretty friggen awesome. It's just when the post is filtered to say something opposite of the intent is when it starts to bother me a bit.

In summary: Great idea! It's a hilarious prank! Bust it out for April Fool's! But, uh, I think it's a little too persistant and extensive for my tastes at the moment.

There's a thread currently in the boneyard about bacon cookies, which I'm tempted to move back out to the general forum just for lulz temporarily.

While I am totally in favour of fun on the forums, it might be an idea to exclude certain subsections of the forums from this wordfilter madness (the safer sections, ie, Dear SB and possibly LSR). When someone with mental issues posts "I love my family", and it comes out as "I haaate my family", that goes beyond poking fun, in my opinion.

100% agreed. The ones which were in place before were OK. Not funny, but not very frequent, so you didn't run up against it much. The ones now are seriously interrupting the flow of discussion (not to mention changing love to hate, which completely reverses the meaning of someone's statement, and is in its own separate category of retarded), and it's pissing me the hell off.

Moo - that would be fair enough if it weren't the case that people constantly get jumped on by mods in SB an N&A and such for making jokes, or slightly off topic points, that still fitted with the conversation. Now the mods have decided to have a field day and made reading previous posts there often incredibly hard.
I get that it's just meant to be fun, and if they could have limited it to certain sections then fine, i did find some of it quite amusing, but to make certain posts almost illegible after being so anal about the smallest things in the past, eh, it just annoyed me.
Only one day though, so not long left.

edit, if a mod wants to give me a title of 'ian' then I'll totally take back everything I said about this and declare it awesome though. Or any title really. I just want to be special

I think the mods should change everyone's vote in the "Age" thread to either "less than 14" or the "greater than ___" one (forgot the exact age). I'm assuming this is possible, since they claim to be able to look at and change our preferences, but I'm not actually sure...

Oh shit, my sig's messed up too. Nooooooo.

Edit: Huh, my normal approach to filter avoidage doesn't work in quote names...

This is the point. The whole idea of the entire "Mod Month" thing (I forget the catchy acronym) is for them to be able to have a little fun now and then, since they have to give a shitload of time to administrate things while *we* have fun, every single other day. Is it really that important that *someone is wrong on the internet!" for one day? It's a forum. It will be all back to normal tomorrow. In the grand scheme of things, is it really that important that you continue that discussion NOW rather than tomorrow, or just concentrate a little harder on previous posts for one day?

To constantly bitch about one day of letting their hair down seems incredibly self centred to me. That is not meant to be a direct insult to you, but a disappointed observation about the fora in general.

Exactly the point. Discussion is all we have, and the mods are hampering the discussion. It's ridiculous, especially when they completely change the tone of someone's post with their stupid joke.

Hmm. You are insisting that posting in this forum is all you - no wait you used the royal we, so I guess that means everyone on the fora - have in life to the point where you can't manage to work around some silly word filters for a day or so and we're the ridiculous ones? Interesting...

Ah! I just wrote out a post then failed to post it.

moo - One point that I do feel worth mentioning is that I don't feel part of any xkcd forums community (yet) as I'm sure many of you do, certianly the mods. I come here for discussion so having that made a lot harder sucks, maybe if I came here with a more socialising mindset as I do on other forums, I'd probably enjoy it a lot more. I wonder if annoyance with the day is inversely proptional to post count. All I know is that when I logged on this morning and went to the various SB and science threads I was following it was annoying try to work out what people where trying to say in some cases.

I also didn't know about it before hand which probably doesn't help, sure if it happened next year again I'd be much less bothered

So noted. If we do this again, we'll consider being louder about it being time for a particular thing rather than just listing it all out in a single Announcement thread.
