it's not so much an illusion as a subliminal message but I've always enjoyed this:

not really subliminal, its a physiological test,

if you see the couple first, then you've got a dirty mind

Thankfully, the shop is empty atm, but I would really recommend nsfw spoilers on that dolphins pic.

Sorry, but surely what you've said is utterly wrong. There's no way anybody could see the dolphins first. The dolphins are subliminal, hidden within the main, far more prominent image.

Or, perhaps you are right and the image isn't as prominent as my mind has me thinking. In which case it is incredibly effective in the manner you suggested. The tag on the bottle however, which refers to the dolphins, suggests that they are supposed to be subliminal; the tag acts as a clue to their presence.

The dolphins/bottle thing shows the difference between mindsets of the innocent and not. Apparently if you show it to the average 5 year old then they pretty much ONLY see the dolphins because their mind doesn't have any reference point to be able to relate the erotic embrace to (unless you let your 5 year old watch channel 5 that is).

I think everyone who views the image online, without being told they're there, is likely to miss the dolphins completely.

I think it may be best viewed in print. Saw it in an edition of New Scientist once where readers were encouraged to look at the image up close and then from a distance. View the image up close then walk away from your screen and view it at a distance. If you can't get far enough away, I've noticed the effect is somewhat replicated by crossing your eyes slightly.

No the way its set up with the grey background your mind will assume the white is the image. You SHOULD see the couple first (unless you're truly naive)

I thought the exact same thing, she saw dolphins.

Also, what is your illusion. I can sorta see it but not clear enough to see exactly who the other person is.

Does anyone else get an effect whereby, after they have completed a song on Guitar Hero, they look around and anything - anything - they look at seems to be moving upwards?

I think that happens to everyone, especially on the fast songs.

I think its because the brain "recalibrates" the eye muscles to constantly move upward to keep track, much like my Thinkpad recalibrates its nub-mouse when I move it ever so slightly upward for a prolongued period of time.

But cool, I imagine that makes sense... Someone needs to find out (for science!) why your brain does that.

The same thing happens to me after watching film credits. I don't know what causes it, but I imagine it works on the same principles as those weird moving patterns like this.*

In regard to the spinning silhouette (and, I suppose, the dolphin jug lady), I think the real illusion is that people are just that interested in the optical illusion, rather than the fact that it's an excuse to stare at a naked woman on their computer screen.
