Yeah, I've been doing a lot of lurking lately. Lots of time on IRC instead. I'll likely be around here more often now.

Talk to a mod directly in a PM. They don't do it often but will in some instances if you ask nicely. They did it for me as well. If you have a low post count they will generally just ask you create a new account, since it's easier.

hanecter wrote:Just got off the phone with her. She said she loves me but doesn't know what will happen. She knows I don't want SRS. I'm not very hopeful. I get why it's hard for her. But she's said for a long time that she loves me for me, for who I am. Now I just feel like her love for me is contingent upon my body being what she likes.

*hugs* hanecter. I'm sure this probably doesn't help, as what you're going through now probably hurts like hell, but remember that (unfortunately, in some ways) love and sex don't seem to be the same thing. Continuing in a relationship with someone is often contingent upon a huge array of things that aren't to do with love: sexual preferences, differences in how tidy/messy people are about the house, depression and the ability of a partner to cope with it, differences in future plans such as marriage or children or career, whether or not long-distance can work and for how long a relationship is going to have to be long distance...

Being told by your partner that they don't know if they'll want to stay with you hurts enormously, and you'll probably feel angry too because you loved and trusted them damnit and that trust makes you vulnerable and now this person you trusted is causing you pain... but try not to feel unloved. Choosing not to continue in a relationship with you doesn't mean she doesn't care for you deeply, and doesn't mean that she values your body more than your personality. It just is what it is. You need to be true to yourself, she needs to be true to herself, and sometimes those paths start to diverge.
Also, Mae is a beautiful name!

(Yaaaaaay Josie :D )

some cool stuff:

Last weekend I spent most of a day at a summer camp for gender variant children. (think ages 6-12) It was, well, surreal. I've never seen anything like it before. I was a bit agitated that someone felt the need to tell me that all the kids were anatomically male, but that didn't last long. I've never ever felt so safe and comfortable anywhere else in my entire life. There were boyish kids, girly kids, boyish kids in high heels, androgynous kids, really, just everything. And surrounded by wonderful supportive parents.

Right, the parents! They were the reason I was there in the first place. I was amazed at what I saw and heard. They were all incredibly supportive (just by virtue of bringing their kids to this place, even) and were eager to learn everything they could to help support their kids even better. I was there to speak with them, to share my knowledge on all things gender variant and transgender. At one point they asked us how our lives went, which mainly provided them with perspective into the lives of similar kids with not so great parents. They asked about social issues and hormones and transition and if the kids will understand if we try and explain all this to them.

They took everything to heart and were exceptionally glad. I don't think I've ever felt so valuable or appreciated.

Some not so cool stuff:

...........

Not doing well, I don't want to deal with this right now though. I'll post more or edit this later I guess.

If you'd feel comfortable, I'd love a link to this summer camp. It sounds amazing, and I'd love to tell people about it. :)

Nerdcore Metal. Because actual metal has far too little diversity of subject, IMO.

In other news, I recently discovered that my local LGBTIQQAACRONYMATTACK Community Center has an instance of a regular bisexual social/support night next week. I am thinking of checking it out. Should be interesting. (Slightly nervous...)

I was listening to a bunch of Judas Priest and whatnot that day, so uh. I guess I would say not any of those subgenres, but instead just the top level, mainstream type metal.

Big ditto here, particularly when they incorporate actual orchestral instruments.

I wish more genres of music had stopped and said to themselves, "well, this is neat, but what if we add some cellos and stuff?" I'm pretty sure most of the results would be awesome.

Also, I love that bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation mean that there's legitimately *something* out there that qualifies as popular music that I can sing along to with my normal voice.

Judas priest can certainly be sub-genred. New Wave of British Heavy Metal is the commonly accepted term, I believe, and they could probably fall under the umbrella of early power metal. And that was the "mainstream" stuff from years ago, the mainstream stuff nowadays is more screamo and nu-metal (in American metal, at least. European is something of a different story). As for diversity of subject, it really does depend on the band. Certain genres tend to have things they focus on, and the entire overarching style of music tends towards the fantastical in lyrics, but if you look, there's a fair bit of diversity in subject matter.

I am, however, curious what you consider Nerdcore Metal to be, because it probably exists. >.>

EDIT - Also, the conversation reminded me of this band, which is kinda relevant to the topic of the thread - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TtqcvC0BHg They're a "queer jewcore" group, I believe is the way they put it.

My mom had another one of her talks to me about how she just does not get the concept of pansexuality. She keeps calling me a lesbian and mourning the fact that she'll never be the mother of a bride and plan a wedding and have grandkids that she can be the maternal grandmother of (because if my brothers have kids their SOs moms will deal with that). I keep telling her that the only thing preventing that is that I don't want kids/a wedding. At least she's just decided to accept it, and her confusion over this is not really that different from the egocentric confusion bubble she rolls around in in every other part of her life. And she's also disappointed in how absolutely cissexist my other family members are, which is good. Except for my grandparents, she's the best ally I've got in my family.
I wanted to see the universe, so I stole a Time Lord and ran away. And you were the only one mad enough.
Biting's excellent! It's like kissing, only there's a winner.
