Poll: Have you or someone you know said "Stupid uterus"?

I have not heard this line before from women, and am wondering if maybe it's more popular among nerdy/geeky women. Please let me know.

Male. Hear the phrase all the time.

But then, I imagine you were inspired to ask by the comic, so I'm a skewed sample: I know many of the same women Randall does. So it might just be a localized thing.

Still, it is only common sense. The uterus is the part that's cramping. If my stomach cramps, I say "stupid stomach". It only follows.

It may be common sense scientifically, but that doesn't mean women are actually forthright about it. They might say, "it's that time of the month", or more likely, "it's feminine/women problems". The last I have heard countless times.

Sure. Those would be the ways to be shy about it. I'm just saying, assuming you *do* feel like being explicit (as many do, namely those who feel no need to be shy), that would be the most common sense comment to go to.

I have, on occasion, muttered that to myself. But never anyone else.

I've said this - but I'm more likely to say, "damn biology!" or somesuch.

Much younger me bought tickets to a concert for myself and a girl. At the last minute, Girl had to cancel due to cramps, etc., but it was too late to get a refund or get a friend to take her place. As I got off the phone, I grumbled, "Stupid uterus." My sister overheard, and it's become sort of a running joke.

I'm fairly certain that's the only time I'd heard it before that comic.

Non-believers, go read the woman thread, it's in there a fair bit.

I'n prepared to believe it's common in some circles. Just not mine. I tend to say "I hate being female" to imply it.

Uhhhhhh. Just because you haven't heard it doesn't mean you're right. I'm pretty forthright about this shit, and so are most of the women I know. It's that damned uterus' fault, and by God, I'm going to put the blame where it belongs. FUCK YOU UTERUS. (No relation to Fuck You Penguin.)

The only people I know who use "feminine problems" as a phrase are old people, someone talking to old people, or someone talking to someone who would be grossed out about the word "uterus."

Ponies. I curse my uterus, and my ovaries etc. Most of the women I know, actually.

Things I say among friends to show displeasure at cramps include "stupid uterus", "ugh, my uterus hates me" and "my uterus is trying to kill me". And I hear that kind of thing a lot from them too. Why is this even of interest to anyone, anyway?

I actually think uterus is a nice clinical way to express it so even in front of people who don't like hearing words like period or menstruation it's a handy way to say it.

Also, HOLY CRAP IT'S GIRLTM.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's because the guy over at xkcdsucks has based his criticism of that comic at least partially around the idea that "no one ever says that".

Oh xkcdsucks. You are comically terrible at what you do.

I say this about once a month. Although, there are quite a few more swear words when I say it.

Male, and yes I've heard this.

Of course, I live with Belial, so my answer could be explained by the same localized effect of his. (Then again, I've also heard it from friends back home who've never met anyone Randy knows.)

I'm male and I've heard both my female and male friends have said it.
It may just be that some women don;t feel as open about their periods to some people, and this includes you.

I have never said "stupid uterus" in part because because I like my uterus and I very rarely have any problems from it. I don't think I've even said "stupid knee" even though I hate my knee and it often hurts me. I have never said "stupid cervix" even though that particular part of my uterus likes to grow abnormal cells. I don't like to call things "stupid" because it's rude, and it does not seem logical to criticize parts of my body for a lack of consciousness when I'm really happy that the nerves in my brain are the only ones capable of producing consciousness.

it's feminine/women problems
I have never heard this. The tame version where I am from is "I have cramps". I think if someone said their were having 'woman problems' I would assume they currently had an unwanted pregnancy (which they meant to rectify).

Stupid uterus, damn uterus, stupid fucking uterus, depends on how said body part is making me feel.
There are also various other variations, most of which involve the word "uterus".
There's also the "I have cramps" or "I hate being a girl," the last being the tame version.
I don't think I've ever actually heard "woman problems" and if I did I'd assume pregnancy or cysts or something. And "that time of the month" is only used by my grandmother. And other people her age.

I picked I am a man and I have said it because, um, I am male-identifiedand I have said it. I have said it at least twice this morning alone. My uterus is busy giving me Lots Of Pain and I do not approve at all. Stupid uterus.

I have said this and its variations so many times that I've lost count.
(But I'm a lit girl, so it's not that surprising.)

I've also been known to exclaim it in crowded supermarkets, if that helps with your research any.

I get so annoyed when people complain about their periods. First, I don't want to hear in great detail about your menstruation. Second, I don't care, and I don't think the world needs to hear about it.
Seriously, if you can't take a little periodic pain, do something about it instead of complaining all the time.
(Yes, I'm a girl, no I've never said it)

"I am a man, and I have said this. [Explanation below]"

-> Yeah, when I explained the friend to a comic.

... you do realize that for some people it's not "a little", right? And that not everyone has the resources to get to a doctor and get treatment/medication for medical problems, so saying "do something about it" when no home remedies/over-the-counter stuff will help and there may not actually be anything they can afford to do is an extremely privileged demand to make?

not everyone's is little, that is why they have gone through the trouble to make medicines and find the causes of extreme menstral pain.

Luckily I don't get cramps, or if I do they are no more than gas pain... but I still say it for other reasons.

I am so glad I have her foe'd.

Why get irritated about something that over half the population goes through monthly? Why be uncomfortable talking about your body and something that happens to it. If it bothers someone they can GTFO and let other people talk about the normal phenomena of menses.

I have said this. I don't see any reason to be upset about talking about natural body things. Sure I won't make people uncomfortable if I can help it, but with friends and it's a bad day I might say something. If anything, I think people like to know. If I am being rude or tired or out of it or pure cranky they know why and that it's not them.

oh and Mous - a "little pain"? PLEASE just feel lucky and don't talk like that. I have literally passed out from the pain.

Basically all my uterus-hosting friends have said this, so to me it's not a particularly bizarre/nonhuman way of talking.
But it is a very "tell, don't show" way of opening a comic.

I'll tell you what, Mous. I'll swap with you for a month. My uterus for yours. And we'll see how trivial you think it is when you get a cramp that drops you to your knees with little-to-no warning, you have gastrointestinal distress, pain in your lower back and upper thighs, and can't sleep. And my periods aren't too bad compared to some people's. It'll be awesome to have a month with just a little pain that isn't anything to complain about.

This might be a weird question. . .but do only women get cramps? Sometimes I don't feel too good in the morning in my abdomen, but I'm not sure if this is a cramp, or if there is a better word for that. I guess I'm just not really sure what exactly a cramp is. . .

I am a woman and have not said anything like this; I am also blessed with painless periods. However, even when they are inconvenient (e.g. interfering with sexytimes or sleep), I don't speak negatively of my uterus, because I'm pretty sure that would make it angry. And nobody wants an angry uterus.
