It shows off your good side while also giving you a good look at the entire face.

How can we be jealous of a visage if we have prettier faces?
Seems illogical to me.

Yeah, but it's been pointed out before that cait's avatar looks remarkably similar to mine, or mine to hers, or whatever. We've got our faces at almost exactly the same angle and equal levels of eyebrow-raise etc.

Speaking of photo similarity, I'm vaguely disgruntled over some people facing the wrong direction in their avatars...

I'm trying to hijack the trend to make it a more general "here we use pictures!" phenomenon rather than a "we're all following a highly specific and likely transient fad!"

I can't speak for the others, though.

I do kinda miss the fez from my earlier avatar, though. It's too bad I was just trying it on and a friend happened to snap a picture of it. Otherwise, I'd take another picture with it on.

I like seeing my face next to my posts (narcissistic? moi?), I also like seeing the face of other people posting, I think it does foster a bit less anonymity and a bit more real people feeling. 'tis good.

The only other forum I'm on at the moment (which I was on before this one) is the forum for my uni's Rock Society, which is full of people I know in person, so to save confusion I use my face as an avatar, so they know who they're talking to. When I signed up for this one, I was to lazy to find a new picture so I used the same one. (I was too lazy to find one for the RockSoc forum as well: the original was my Facebook profile pic)

EDIT: Also, I like to show off my hair :D

The real person feel. It makes it feel like more of a connection, in some way. Not really on a personal level, but more of an acquaintance, like someone you work with, a regular customer at a store you worked at, or someone you went to high school with. That sort of thing, if it makes sense

My avatar has long been... well, part of a face. Upside down and cropped. And it's not mine, but instead my favorite part of one particular face. Way better than you people and your lame portrait shots.
