It's an awesome feeling when you cause a friend to realize something awesome.

Neither he nor I have ever played any Mass Effect game, but we've watched (different) playthroughs of some of them on YouTube.

He began to talk about Mordin in ME3. In an attempt to make a reference to his death scene (which I have not seen) in the hopes that I would pick up on it, he said something about how "He's studied species Turian, Asari and Batarian." I immediately drew the conclusion that it was supposed to be a Salarian version of the Modern Major General song. My friend had no idea that song existed... so I found it on YouTube and played it for him and he's all "Holy shit it sounds exactly like the song Mordin was chanting in that one scene!"

So we were both standing there after having discovered, from different angles, just exactly how awesome that scene is. Feels good man.

It would seem that a clean and lubricated bottom bracket makes the difference between "decroded beater" and "smooth ride". My bicycle's top speed has increased by about 25%.

I got my brother to start learning how to program! He's now learning Python. There is now no one in my house who cannot write code! (I'm the only one who actually has to, and my parents haven't written code in years, but still!)

I like putting air in the tires of my friends' bikes and oiling their chains. The beams on their face when they can suddenly go twice as fast is worth it.

The bearing grease had not been changed probably since before I was born, and had achieved a rather glue-like consistency. My mind struggles to comprehend how many joules I wasted fighting that viscosity. But yeah, the feeling of a smooth chain and up-to-pressure tires is of similar character, if not magnitude. But yeah, it serious feels like I'm riding a brand-new bike.

I was actually going to include the adjective "tight" (the crank initially had a good deal of give before the repair session), but decided that would make it too easy to do what you just mentioned.

Got my guitar down from the attic for the first time in about 6 years today, started tuning it, realised there was a string missing. DISASTER. But NO! I had strings lying about my room, and my dad was home to string it for me (since I'm inept at that kind of thing). So now I'm happily messing about with it. Hurray!

With fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong, congrats. I bought my first house last year and I'm still getting used to the idea that these walls belong to me rather than a landlord. It's brilliant.

Started my new job and it looks awesome. People are nice, the company seems well organized, and the works look great. I am in a small team that tries to develop advanced components, with far more attention to the aerodynamics in particular. And there seems to be plenty of room there, there is even an order from another firm to redesign one of their products, to be paid on license basis for every kilo and kilowatt we can cut from the design.

I just feel awesome.
I feel like rolling up my new degree into its red cardboard tube and bopping people over the head with it.
"Oh, so you messed me about for weeks, making me miserable for my whole graduation week? Well *bop* screw you, cos I have a degree!"
"Oh, so you ended up getting the guy I was so desperate to be with? Well, meanwhile, *bop* I got a degree!"
"Oh, so you're not going to employ me for that job I would be amazing at and would allow me to move out of my parents' house and closer to friends? Well, I'll find something better, because *bop* I'VE GOT A DEGREE!"
(Okay, that last one is somewhat unrealistic).

Hey, it's one of the few things in life I can be super proud about. And I damn well will be. :)

Hey, bopping certain people on the head would give me great happiness right now. Possibly more happiness than a job could.

But yeah, I know a degree is not necessarily the most useful thing ever. But while everything else seems to be going wrong, it's something I've managed to achieve and feel proud of. I never really believed I'd get through the 4 years of university, and I feel pretty awesome that I did.
