I made beer today with a wort that includes 6 pounds of dark liquid malt extract, 1 pound of table sugar, and about 1 pound of molasses. My whole house smells amazing now.

i went to an anime convention last weekend (not like, yesterday, but the week before) and had quite possibly the most fun, ever. i actually socialized and didn't feel that uncomfortable at all? (except when people with "free hugs" signs came up to me. that sucked) i have a bunch of new friends and even got a Very Cute Person's number. :D (plus, some of my friends and I have all planned Dragon Age 2 cosplays for our next con in July and I'll get to spirit gum a fake beard onto my face :V)

also, i'm moving to upstate New York in August! instead of going off to college immediately, i'm taking a gap year and moving up there to work for my aunt who owns an interior design business and check out some local art schools (Pratt, basically). i'm anxious/excited/ect.

sounds tasty, however I'm thinking this will take quite a bit of aging, due to how dry its going to end up. Thats a lot of molassas, you must really like the flavor.

I'm on a restricted alcohol intake for the next few months (I may or may not have already posted about it here, I don't remember), so I've decided to take the opportunity to cellar some commercial beers and brew some things that require a lot of aging. I have a mead going that should be ready in a few months, and the beer should be ready in 4 or 5 months. I got a copy of Sam Calagione's Extreme Brewing for Christmas and pulled a recipe from there. It's a Belgian Brown Ale that's going to be aged on oak chips that will have been soaking in a red port for three weeks.

yeah, but they've got a campus about two hours away from where I'll be living, so it's a large possibility that i'll be going there (and a possibility that i'll be able to afford it, because i'll be a state resident :V :V)

That's awesome. I went to the wikipedia page for the institute to affirm that they were in NYC and I didn't see anything about a satellite campus outside the city.

So I just started redrafting the mathematical background section of my research review. Overall, the review has a 3000 words upper limit and the mathematical background was at 2800 or something. The bit I've done so far has been cut down from 2200 words to 1100 words. The first subsection went from 1100 words to 380.

It looks like I might actually have some words to actually discuss the point of the review now. I am very happy.

i didn't either, until they sent me a bunch of "come to our school!" mail a few months ago. :D it's nice to be contacted instead of having to contact, even though i know they send out that stuff all the time.

This is a very commonly expressed sentiment.

There have been some explanations written.
I don't know if any of them are Right.
Spoiler:
1. It's the same mechanism that makes us worry that we didn't turn off the....(name it)

Seratonin uptake.
Sometimes I swear...Everything is seratonin uptake.

2. It can easily be reasoned with.
A person adjusts to a Luxury BoxCar quickly.

3. When that seratonin uptake thing does not reset and rebalance on its own a person can, in the year 2015, get a little pill that blocks or helps seritonon.

Some Obsessive Compulsive Disorders are this Normal and Protective mechanism causing that feeling of Impending Doom all the fucking Time.
That is a terrible feeling, if you can't shake it, when everything is going Well. A little pill helps some people.

I also think we are a Bunch of Freaks.
We know how Awful it can be when, "If it wasn't for Bad Luck, I'd have no Luck at all."
We are frightened and we feel it.

Some entire hillsides are Bright Orange with California Poppy blossoms.

I was in San Fransco last week.
The Poppies are in Full Bloom, there.
Here, in the North, the first blooms are opening, today.

It is such a Bright, Exuberant Plant and it is soo much more hardy than it looks.

Today is my HRTday!

Exactly a year ago today I took my first hormone and anti-androgen pills, and since then things have improved a lot (though not exactly linearly, obviously). This is a pretty big deal for me, 'cause not only does a full year on HRT show how much has changed and gotten better, but I've also proven to myself that this wasn't just another whimisical thing and that this is actually right for me.

I brought cake. :D

Went sailing for the first time in about 2 years - I'd forgotten how happy it makes me :D :D :D

I was quite pleased by how well I remembered how to do it (okay, so I did heinously mis-rig the spinnaker, but I saw what I did wrong and know how to do it right the next time).

Also beer never tastes so good as when accompanied by a side of salt spray and windburn.

I have never heard of her, but I'm not sure I know the names of any (exclusively) children's books authors, so I'm probably not representative. I suspect she's reasonably well known in the UK.
