Saw a really great show of Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphies, and two or three other bands whose names escape me at the moment about four years ago. It was a great show show (though I must admit, that same year I saw Mighty Mighty Bosstones with Reel Big Fish & Less than Jake, and that was fucking amazing).

Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphies

I can't believe you paid to see the same band twice.

In my opinion, Flogging Molly is better than Dropkick, (especially their earlier stuff - Devil's Dance Floor & Black Friday Rule are amazing, not as huge a fan of their newer stuff), but Dropkick is more punk in their sound, Molly is a bit more melodic.

(and at any rate, it was like $10/ticket - go student discount!)

I have not had the nerve to attend a concert for, well... pretty much anything.

Have a feeling if I wandered into a rowdy section I may either get my feelings hurt or end up putting someone in intensive care.

Yeah, my mind is not a normal place.

I was rejected from jury duty! Now I won't have to spend the whole week judging whether a man killed his wife or not.

You read the Kama Sutra for the articles?
xkcd means having editor's notes in your copy of the Kama Sutra?

xkcd pedantic poster is a person that can explain the font faults, the mistranslations, spelling errors, and the errors in descriptions of a Congress of Cows in 3rd, 4th and 5th English editions, from Memory.

What?
The Pop-Up Kama Sutra is fun for the whole family.

I thought, "penguin".
Yes. The eye is captured by a thing so out of place.

Pinguin flying in or skunk flying in; "Something's Wrong with this picture."
Good Someone for noticing the tree is not Real.

That makes the flying skunk make sense.
It's a painted pinguïn flying in to attack Giraffe on the open plain as they graze from 2D trees.

It all makes perfect sense, now.

The wood door was the only thing that tipped me off after staring at it for a while. I saw the penguin(???) but my brain just accepted the fact that it was there.
Huh, that's quite a photo.

I think the rate of pub shutdown is somewhat overblown, at least in the South East of England. I suppose I can't really speak for other areas of the country. Pubs are definitely gentrifying, though - almost all of them do food now, increasingly with table service. One of the reasons my sister loves her new house is because it's 30 seconds walk from a really good gastropub.

You might be right. I recently joined CAMRA and they push it hard.

That said, I've seen 2 really nice pubs close in 2 villages nearby in a span of 4 or 5 months.

Yeah, in my part(s) of the SE, a lot of pubs are stopping being pubs but most of them are turning into gastropubs and/or straight-up restaurants rather than closing down. Happened to my favourite pub here at uni, it was really sad :C

That is spectacular. I never thought I'd laugh so much at what is presumably a simple html coding error. I think it's because the subject matter is so mundane. What's the font size of the final line?

New England, actually - Bangor, not to be confused with the one in Wales. And up until recently, there were only two decent pubs in the area... but there have been so many local breweries starting and brew pubs its been wonderful.

I think it has something to do with the fact that they keep opening heading tags and not closing them, and (in firefox at least), the defaults for those specify text size as in ems, which basically just multiplies the existing text size by that much. By my count, there's 15 <h2> tags (at 1.85em each) and 38 <h3> tags (1.6em) before the heading finally gets closed, the product of which is a very large number. I'm not sure what the maximum font size a current version of firefox will actually render text in, but that's what size a lot of that page is in. If it wasn't limited by the browser, the final line would be something like 5.8*1011em. Back of the envelope calculation puts that at a font size of about 10 lightseconds.

Not quite that much -- in Firefox, the last big letter I can find takes up 1.3 full screens tall by 0.8 screens wide.

And then the very last line, in normal size font: "If a problem persists, we recommend that you contact Sewing and Embroidery Warehouse". Glorious.
