Can you pull your tongue?

Postby the_phoenix612 » Wed Dec 02, 2009 5:51 am UTC

This weekend, the gf and I had some...extensive amounts of fun  ... and ever since, the back right corner of my mouth/throatal area hurts every time I move my tongue.

I'm not thinking it's my tonsil because only the right one is swollen and that never happens for me and I'm not feeling sick at all. It's kind of obnoxious, because eating (which I tend to enjoy) hurts like, some might say, a motherfucker. :(

So I ask the board, is it possible to pull/strain your tongue, since it does happen to be a muscle? If so, how does one fix this? Has anybody had a similar issue? I'd like to be able to enjoy dinner at some point in the near future :)

That's happened to me when I stick my tongue out too far. It usually fixes itself within an hour or so, it's strange to go for more than a day.

like lulzfish I sometimes get it for 1-2 hrs

Try sucking on icecubes? Maybe it's inflamed so taking Ibuprofen would help.

I think that if it doesn't get better after a week you should see a doctor (either go off campus or just see what the on campus ones say).

I think I sometimes get it in the mornings, drinking water seems to help.

Is it horrible that upon reading the title, I stuck my tongue out and started yanking on it?

It's kinda hard to do, though. My fingers slip away all the time, but when I press it too hard, it hurts.

Ouch. =(

Which is why I thought the question was worthy of a forum topic. Let's hijack the thread and start talking about ways to pull your tongue without pain.

Yay!

Maybe you could try and get your significant other to suck your tongue out. Even though it's not pulling, it'd definitely be something to try out. Hmm.

You'd just need to find a way to pull out your tongue while not pressing it too hard, and then it's just a matter of pulling it out. Really difficult =)

I'll be the first person to say: Congrats and wooooooooo. On a more on topic note, I think pulling your tongue would be REALLY painful, tongues are generally quite sensitive, but like any other muscle I assume you can accidentally pull it. And yes, I pulled my tongue too, or at least, attempted to.

Hold your mouth open for about twenty minutes or so, depending on how much saliva you produce. Vöîlá! Your tongue is now dry and easier to pull. Or you could get a tongue piercing and pull on that.

Hijack approved, the tongue is nearly painless. I expect it to be better tomorrow.

I cringed at the thought of pulling a piercing... maybe because I don't have any...... and I think you'd rip it out...

I wouldn't think it would hurt that much if you weren't trying to tear it out. I'm pretty sure piercings don't rip out as easily as that.

20 minutes isn't necessary to dry your tongue enough. At least for me. A few seconds of breathing with your mouth open, and your tongue out seems to dry it enough to get a good grip. I find I can squeeze enough to not hurt.

Not at all. It's more like having a wacky rubber band in your mouth that you can yank on whenever you want. Or if you're male, you start to realize the similarities between the tongue and another anatomical part. The Hammer, to be precise.

When I read the topic headline I thought "Hey! That sounds familiar." and then I sat on my hands. Cause I still remember last time I tried pulling out my tongue to see what would happen. Back then I spent a month unable to eat or speak properly and in a lot of pain.

So I won't be doing that again...

I pulled my tongue once while trying to lick peanut butter from the roof of my mouth, back towards the uvula.
------
I find that the bottom of my tongue becomes dry more quickly than the top, and that is sufficient dryness to allow me to pull the tongue out and return it without my fingers slipping

if you stick out your tongue then wipe it off with your hand, you can get it dry very quickly.

Really? I had to have mine held out for about 25 mins to get a lump cut of the side of my tongue, and at the end I was still drooling/bleeding all over myself. Also silver-nitrate + tongue = ouchies
