Re: Poll-- Myers-Briggs Personality Type

Postby SecondTalon » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:32 pm UTC

Merged for you. You're welcome. And seriously, the stuff I found was all in the first page of my search for "myers briggs", including a poll topic. Try harder. And when you see that there are other threads bump them up and ask a mod to add a poll if you think it's necessary. Adding to the conversation of an ancient topic isn't thread necromancy for no reason - it won't get the topic lock and odds are, a friendly mod will actually do it.

Hey, I'm sorry. I mean it. I hate it when I accidentally break forum rules. I don't know why I didn't see this thread. I searched for "Myers-Briggs" and "Personality tests" and I guess it's the title of the thread that made me think it wasn't a personality test. I think that this title should be changed to "myers Brigg personality test" instead of "psychological testing". Seriously, that title is lame.

Maybe I didn't search correctly. I just searched for threads with those words, and not for the posts.

And I didn't know that I could request that a poll be added to an old thread. I would have down that if I had known it was possible.

A million times sorry.

EDIT: please don't ban me. I'll clean your house for a week.

I don't understand why you wanted me to read that post. I understood that when you wrote in read you were talking as a moderator. What was it exactly that you wanted me to know?

Also, can I make a formal request for the title of this thread be changed so that it's clear what kind of "psychological testing" it is?

Mostly that I wasn't angry, as you seemed to be apologizing far more than necessary. And sure.

On topic: I've taken this test, online and as administered by my uncle (who is certified to do so) and the only one I get consistently is N. Everything else falls into the "could go either way" category.

Taking the test for the second time, I'm apparently ISFJ. I'm not sure what I got the first time other than it's obviously not what I got just now as nobody's voted for it yet and I've already done so. It seems to fit in some ways but not all and is prone to changing, as are seemingly all personality tests.

Some of the questions were very easy to answer, some very difficult. This is reflected in my results: 67% introverted, 25% intuitive, 1% thinking and 1% judging. It looks like I defy categorization as far as the last two are concerned.

Yeah, this is pretty much me. If I pay attention to the questions I can score as INTJ or INFP with equal ease.

I'm not sure I agree with the test. I've never liked the generalizations it makes and the fact that many questions should be answered in more of a inbetween.

I got ENFP, 67% 62% 25% 44%. Interestingly the first time I took it, several years ago, I was ISTP. I certainly have changed in that time. I think I'm really between ENFP and ENTP - I still place a high value on logic, but I place a much higher value on feelings than I ever used to. I trust my intuition more, which explains the N, and I'm certainly more an extrovert now. I'm certainly not a Judging type.

INTP
Seek to develop logical explanations for everything that interests them. Theoretical and abstract, interested more in ideas than in social interaction. Quiet, contained, flexible, and adaptable. Have unusual ability to focus in depth to solve problems in their area of interest. Skeptical, sometimes critical, always analytical.
I've taken this test three times (8th grade, summer '07, fall '07) and they all came out to the same result. Not that I'm complaining or anything. This fits me scarily well. Even the negatives of it.
I seem to notice a distinct abundance of INT- around this area. Sounds about right for a forum of analytical thinkers, eh?

I'm assuming a proper test, with an actual psychiatrist (Is that the right term?) would be more accurate, didn't you say before that your percentages were really low? you'd probably have some /s in there if you had the test done professionally.

I've been an INTJ the last 3 time's I've taken it (two online, one in my school psych class) and it fit me pretty well. And not in the let's-put-a-bit-of-everything-in-and-make-it-all-sound-good way the personality types for horoscopes are, but in an atual way.

Esspecally one bit about hating to show emotion but often having emotions of almost hypersensitive type. And the bit about relationships someone quoted back on page one...

But in the psych class one I was 100% introverted, the onlines not quite so high a percentage but still way up there (90s, maybe?).

I rank with the majority of xkcd-ers as an INTJ (Strength of the preferences %: 33, 75, 88, 11). Really, though, some of the questions aren't the best, for example;

"The process of searching for solution is more important to you than the solution itself"
"When considering a situation you pay more attention to the current situation and less to a possible sequence of events".

These are not incredibly easy to give answers to, especially for the average person who does not devote a lot of time to self-examination and introspection. However, I'm guessing the real test was better than this simplistic version, and that you've all probably realized it's faults anyway, so I'll quit preaching to the choir.
