By the "old" series what are we talking about? Descent, Descent II? Or more towards D3 or freespace?

If Descent or D II, you're my hero. I haven't played that stuff in years.

Mostly Descent3 (which is still over eight years old) for various reasons, but I still play the original and DII from time to time. If you ever want to play those again with modern hardware acceleration and neato new features, I can point you to some really cool fan-created mods.

D1 and D2 were the shit...I haven't played them in so long for numerous reasons:
a) Don't have the software
b) Don't have hardware compatible with it. The ship bob was psycho on newer systems.

I could never get into D3 though, just wasn't the same.

Despite only having three posts here (including this one), allow me to quote myself:

That means no "psycho" compatibility issues, runs perfectly on new hardware, etc. Let me know if you guys are interested, and I'll PM you the info.

So I'm supposed to introduce myself before I post, eh?

Postby laura47 » Thu May 24, 2007 6:51 pm UTC

Hi, I'm laura47, I go to MIT, in the http://cms.mit.edu Comparative Media Studies Program, and I live in Somerville, not that far from the meetup location.

Obviously I love XKCD. I find it very easy to identify with the raptor phobia, as I have a similar relationship with zombies. Everyone thinks zombies are just the coolest thing lately, but they are not cool. Not at all. People even have giant zombie marches through Davis Square in Somerville...

Zombies present different problems than raptors, but it is still very important to evaluate your exits and places where they might attack. Raptors are much quicker on their feet, but they can't reproduce as quickly as zombies can. Both are probably equally susceptible to fire. People never believe you when you tell them that raptors or zombies are on the way until it is too late. Raptors are probably smarter, but most zombies can still open doors. Raptors might make a strategic retreat if you can damage them, but zombies march on forever, until one by one they corrupt every life on the planet until there is nothing left. Unless we can contain them on a single continent.

The reason I came here to post is to share my pictures and video from the talk at MIT, you can find it all linked from here: http://laura47.livejournal.com/756377.html

SubReal, are you a clone of SpitValve or is SpitValve a clone of you? Or is it just because of the picture being bad quality that I can't tell the difference? And why does this give me the urge to make another account to do this sort of thing (though I never would...)

Laura, you're kidding, after raptors, zombies are the coolest things that kill people!

Zombies just keep coming towards you, nomatter what you put between you and it. It'll keep coming, forever! which is the scary/cool thing. Raptors are far more efficient, but there aren't millions of them!

People even have giant zombie marches through Davis Square in Somerville...

Yeah, that is kind of sad...(says the person who LARPs twice a month)

Hello, I <3 this comic in the pants, because I like all things intelligent. Especially Randal.

Hobbies include maths, maths, gaming, computer programming every once in a while, and some more maths. Currently in my first year of the Math program in University. Well, just finished that really, so technically I'm currently on summer break. Always wanted to register to this forum, but I would always get distracted, so I'm doing it while I'm at work with nothing to do. Also, if you would like to be shoosted in the face with some bulletz, and you are a subscriber to Xbox Live, let me know, and we can hook something up. Or shoot something up. Like your face.

Excuse me, you think zombies are slow? Have you seen Dawn of the Dead? (Or even Grindhouse.) XD

I just watched it, again, last night. I love the zombie baby. That is so awesome.

Canadian geese are nothing compared to Bonzo the goose that lived down the road from me when I was little. He was viscious if you dared feed the ducks rather than him, my mum used to have the task of distracting him by feeding him downstream so that we could do the idylic thing of feeding ducks without getting hissed at or worse!

An observation -

The original intro thread started July 1 and hit 11 pages on Oct 21 = 112 days.
To get to 100 pages (and closed) on May 18, it took a total of 321 days.

This thread has hit 11 pages in 6 days. When will it get to 100? 60 days? Less?

Okay, I joined the fora a while ago with the intention of posting and then never got around to it. Perhaps I was inspired to by today's comic? I think posting in a forum is hardly the spontaneous action the comic suggests but... Well I haven't posted in this forum ever before, so I guess it is a break from the norm. Eh, still doesn't really count

Anyway, I like maths and boggle. And other such things. I think the preceding paragraph gives a better idea of who I am than this one.

Zombies are scary, please give them the fear they deserve because they are going to chase you down and they are going to eat your brains.

Spontaneous or not, doing something is better than doing nothing. Unfortunately, mostly we do nothing around here. We're kind of like goggles.

Actually, all you have to do to get geese to run away from you is show them that you're the one in control, dominant. Just stand tall, look strght at them, and glower with all your might. Hiss a bit if it's needed. Eventually they dip their heads and show you submission. If they charge you, spread your arms and either hiss or screech. They don't normally actually attack you, they just pretend (exception: when they have gosslings or you're too close to the nest. But that's your own fault).

This works with swans, too, by the way. I use it on the male mute swan on our lake so he doesn't get cocky and won't charge me. Even though he's almost as tall as I am... (I'm around 5'3, he's a little bit over 5 feet).

Greetings lovers of all things xkcd,

First of all, I am not a spambot, so please point your weapons away and be at ease.

I am a lover of all things musical (except for rap and most pop), cinematical (esp. psychological thrillers), and literary (after this I've just started reading Orson Scott Card's Ender series).

I am just graduating high school and am planning on going off to college next year for a major in psychology and a minor in biology. Right now, I am a drug runner (in other words, I am delivering prescriptions for a pharmacy).

Every time I try to regularly post on a forum, I always become a lurker; we'll see how this attempt goes.

If you've read all of this, you might actually have less of a life then I do.

Edit (to appease rachel): I am an 18 year old male named Dan.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Salutations, comrades! I joined the forum a while ago to post something on an individual comic thread. (I just had to post it!) I never bothered to log back in or make any more posts, though.
Recently I've been lurking around, reading some stuff posted here, and I decided I might as well go ahead and become a regular poster around these parts.

So good morning Sunshine, the world says "Hello!"

Definitely not a clone of him. And probably not the other way around either. Having beards doesn't make one clones. And that's as far as the resamblance goes. We don't even wear the same clothes - and that's easy to spot even on my low qualtiy picture ...
