A bit of cash, a couple of lottery tickets (I won some change on them), marzipan candies and a new jacket.
I'll receive more presents tomorrow when the rest of my family gets here for our annual Christmas dinner.

Can anyone confirm that lottery tickets were an especially popular gift item this year?
I've never gotten any for Christmas before, and several of my friends have mentioned that they got some as well.

- HTC Hero smartphone, one I'd noticed in a "Top 50 Men's Gifts" guide in the Independent a fortnight ago, and one that satisfied my desire for "a good quality item I can do all the facebook & twitter stuff, without it having to be an iPhone"
- Blackadder DVD box set collection for all four series. Will watch them after I'm done with my House Season 1-5 box set I'm still working on since October.
- Socks. About 8 pairs, one set from Star Trek.
- A few random DVD's, some not so special ones, but The Hangover from my sister, which I did enjoy watching 6 months back.
- A compilation of rejected letters sent in to The Daily Telegraph
- Annuals for QI, Top Gear & Private Eye
- Toblerone and Maltesers. NOMNOMNOM. Honestly, anyone who gives me the triangular prism chocolates gets in my good books for a month or two =)

My gifts of "New Moan: The Twi-SHITE Saga" to my younger sister, a CD album done this Christmas by 3 Afghanistan servicemen 'The Soldiers' to my mum, an 'In The Loop' DVD to my dad, were some of the most appreciated ones that I dispatched out I reckon. They all got 3-4 other items as well, but yeah, those purchases were well-received.

Lottery tickets? =/ No offense, but that sounds like kinda a crummy gift. Worse than money (which has no sentimental value), except that it's almost guarenteed to disappoint.

They've always been a staple in my family's Christmas. It's a big family (extended, not my immediate family), and every single member gets a lottery ticket in their stocking. Another branch of the family has lottery tickets in each Christmas card. Just a tradition, I guess.

My only gift so far is a nice point and shoot camera from my boyfriend. The rest are still to come later today. Merry Christmas, everyone. Hope you get awesome shit.

Nothing! We don't really give presentz at christmas =)

Still, I'm happy, considering I often get stuff when I want/need it, so I'm pretty spoiled. And I got to do a lot of boardgames today with my family, which was fun!

I got a record player! Now I can listen to all the vinyl my dad has!
Plus, I got three albums with it: Dark Side of the Moon, Hair of the Dog, and Hotel California. All of which are the full albums.

It might just be all in my head, but it seems like vinyl sounds better than CD's. Kinda like how tube amps sound better than solid-state amps, or how coke in glass bottles tastes better than coke in plastic bottles. Seems kinda backwards, and it might just be a reflection of my love for old things, like the NES...speaking of which, I got an 8-bit NES emulator (the original NES was 8-bit. The Super Nintendo was 16-bit)!

Way more than I was expecting. Mostly stuff for my apartment (fry pans, crock pot, mixing bowls, hand mixer, little vacuum, shredder, ottoman,). Also sock, nail polish, photo album, and a shirt, and a metric shit ton of candy and sweets. First year in a long time I didn't receive a single CD, DVD, or book, which usually make up most of my wish list. I think people were excited to buy apartment stuff, lol.

I grew up in NH. One Christmas there, one of my uncles got me Uncle John's Bathroom Reader for Christmas. I don't know if NH has a state book, but I know what I'd like to nominate.

This year I got:
The Claw, a miniature, battery operated version of those skill crane games.
Lots of candy to fill the Claw, though I probably won't leave candy in it, since I had an ant problem last summer and don't want to leave out anything that might reattract them.
$50 cash, the universal gift card
a flannel shirt
sweat pants
some weird grim reaper decoration that has light up eyes and two small daggers that are stored in its base
a 1,000 piece puzzle of Dogs Playing Poker (A Bold Bluff, to be specific)

Norm McDonald has a good bit about lottery tickets as gifts. Bad is receiving a losing lottery ticket: “Here you go… nothing! Merry Christmas! It’s nothing!” Worse is giving away a winning ticket: "Hey Bob, what'd you get me for Christmas last year? I know I got you the million. Do you remember what you got me? Oh yeah, the coffee mug. Thanks for that, by the way."
