Which Famous Person Would you like to meet?

Postby Essah » Thu Jun 03, 2010 12:39 am UTC

If you could choose 1 famous (more or less) person who would it be?

Personally I would like to Meet Mr. Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem. I like his music and bet he is a very interesting personality. I have no Idea how sane or insane he is or what he's actually like but the bigger the curiosity.

Joan Wallach Scott, the feminist historian.

It would be a short meeting, I wouldn't know what to say to her.

I have a few, ranging from Albert Einstein, George Carlin (unfortunately, he's dead), Bill Maher, Eric Clapton, James Madison, etc.

Honorable mention, I want to sit down and drink some beer with Barack Obama.

That's what my friend says about Bill Maher.
I'm going to play the Stephen Colbert card and augment it with a Jon Stewart. Politics aside, I'd love to meet Hunter S. Thompson, and since he's dead and that's obviously not a problem, I'd like to be specific: I want to meet the guy in 1972' when he's at his prime, covering the elections.

In the land of the living, either Stephen Fry or Neil Degrasse Tyson.

From history, probably Wellington (ideally over dinner with Napoleon and Blücher).

From the present, simply for shits and giggles, Lady Gaga. I just imagine she would be fun to hang around for a day, getting to know.

From the past, any of the US founding fathers, provided I could bring a giant US history textbook. That would be interesting.

...or Tesla, you never know.

I think Bill Murray would be good to have a cup of coffee with.

I'm having a hard time choosing because I want to select someone that might find me interesting. I would love to meet Wayne Gretzky, but after I finish saying, "Wow, you were a really great player ten years ago, what was that like?", I've really got nothing to say to him. I could probably have satisfying conversations with my favorite boadgame designers or people who make great candy, but they certainly not famous.

Maybe I'm breaking the question by defining "Famous Person" as someone from whom I am so far removed as to have no potential for conversation. :?

After running through my criteria (connected to something nerdy that I love, would be hilarious on their own without me having to say much of anything, preferably British) I've got...Patrick Stewart.

This would be amazing. Just give Barack a chance to unwind, tell us how he really feels. Part of me already wants to fast-forward to the future to read his tell-all/post-presidential memoir.

I do, what I meant was George Carlin recently died.

And I'd like to add in Audry Hepburn to my list. Probably the most talented and attractive actress to ever walk this world IN MY HONEST OPINION.

Ah, I've thought of one. Scott Adams, the Dilbert cartoonist. He's got a really good blog and I believe that we think similarly about lots of different things. I think we could have some interesting conversations. And he's famous enough that I don't feel like I'm wasting my choice. :)

This reminds me of the dinner party game - you get to invite six people from any point in history to your dinner party, who do you invite? I'd invite:

- James Joyce
- Hunter S. Thompson
- John Dillinger
- Nadine Vaujour (Rescued her husband from a maximum security prison in Paris in a white helicopter, what a lady.)
- Norma Jean Baker
- Princess Diana

And I'd probably serve something like slow roasted lamb with shepard's cheese and roast vegetables, with a partridge entree and sticky date pudding with toffee sauce and classy vanilla icecream for dessert. White with the entree, red with the main, port with the dessert, followed by liquers and cigars. Lights would be dimmed, conversation would be witty and urbane, the music would be this guy.
Gonna be a blank slate, gonna wear a white cape.

Einstien seems like someone I could talk about science with (and obviously get blown out of depth in about six seconds), and then move on to philosophy, and argue with him about that, and then get totally high with him. I bet einstien would smoke weed all day every day.

and if not, then definitely drunk. he's austrian; he loves schnapps.

I wonder what the fora thinks about whether or not he smoked cannabis. I always insisted he did because of his tendency to perform "Thought Experiments", but I doubt he was a heavy smoker. He probably smoked to relax and imagine the theories he worked hard at the previous day, to get new insights and ideas. I somehow can't imagine him working out complex math while baked.

Edit: I'd love to meet Kurt Vonnegut
