While the wire glasses look cool, I'm pretty sure goggles would be handy when you work with steam all the damn time...
A welding mask would be far more useful when working with Steam, or some sort of full-face leather helmet. Goggles would do nothing to protect your face against a steamblast. Sure, your *eyes*, but who needs eyes when your face just melted off?

Goggles are to keep the wind out of your eyes when piloting your windshieldless steamcraft through the skies or along the ground.

..but don't mind me, I'm a function over form kinda guy when it comes to dress. Why wear something that underperforms when necessary, and why wear protective gear when unnecessary?

The US will attempt to state that our money is technically colored blue and red and yellow in some spots (the new ones are, anyway), but that's pretty much bullshit. They're mostly green, which is sad, because I think it'd be more fun to spend multicolored money.

Honestly, I just want them to redesign the damn $1 bills so they look remotely like the rest of the bills that they've redesigned twice!

(I'd say 'just make $1 coins dammit', but it's pretty well established that that's never going to happen. I'm pretty sure we technically have those in circulation right now, but I've yet to see one outside of a bank.)

I have a few Eisenhower, Susan B. Anthony, and Sacagawea dollar coins. Apparently some dollar coins are still being minted.

They've put $1 coins in circulation about five times, and they keep failing. Why? Because $1 bills are so much easier to use.

I remember seeing a poster on the DC Metro that said "Use $1 coins!" They're doing their best, but we sensible people tend to keep doing sensible things, like not carrying around a bunch of $1 coins.

Also, I like the way our money looks/smells. Brightly colored money just isn't as much Serious Business.

For all you americans, change your money to EC (code XCD). It is always tied to US money so won't change value in comparison (1 US = 2.68 EC). It is also much prettier.

I'm guessing that not many of the fora's UKians will remember pound notes (especially England and Wales - Scotland still has them, although they seem to be becoming less common. And I'm not sure on the status of the pound note in NI.). Or half pennies. But I do. That must count for something, right?

I've used them in the Channel Islands.

But USites don't seem to get that the best way to introduce $1 coins is to stop printing $1 notes...

a little late, i live in New Jersey and all of the friggin ticketing machines at bus terminals and train stations don't have any bills, just coins. so like you can break a twenty to get a two dollar subway ride, but you wind up with eighteen gold dubloons. this is the extent of my experience with dollar coins. getting a shitty bunch of coins tends to annoy, but there's comfort in feeling like a pirate with a pocket full of booty.

This is me, doing a somewhat unrehearsed address to a haggis having been asked that afternoon if I could do it and subsequently learning the damned thing in about an hour and a half:

IIRC this is the moment where I am gabbling on about the rustic, haggis fed and blah blah blah.

* Edited to spoiler stupidly large image (blast you Firefox and your convenient image resizing). Will fix properly in short order.
