This is how I look 5 hours into a 6.5 hour train journey when my internet doesn't feel like staying connected for more than 10 minutes at a time, I am bored of reading, and still have failed to develop an ability to sleep on trains. You can see Ludlow in the background, sort of...

Around here, trains are pretty craptastic for amenities. Long haul trains have got internet service, but only on the express trains (which are a good deal more expensive than the locals). Also, electrical outlets for laptops are typically only in 1st and business class cars.

Our trains are okay not sure if they got internet or not. They're the same quality everywhere and ride on time most of the time. 90% of the time, said an article last year which placed us in the top 5 of best train-countries, woohoo! ( the swiss had about 98% )

On internet on trains: I was using my mobile internet dongle; some trains do have wifi, but it's generally rubbish. (The train I was on also didn't have a plug for me, but my first one did...so of course I decided only to use my laptop on the second train.)

Anyway, the real reason I am here...look what my boyfriend got me for our 2 year anniversary!

It is, yes. I may have dropped hints for several weeks after it first appeared that I definitely wanted one, though I didn't expect to actually get it, given the extortionate shipping costs to get it to the UK...apparently he was slightly drunk when he ordered it, but definitely was going to anyway. :P

Trains are actually a bit amazing, yeah. But it's mainly because people use the train more instead of the car. Even if it's a bit expensive, you can get pretty much anywhere in train.
But unfortunately, WiFi isn't free, and you'd better be near the first class section. (Even if it's free for me, because of college's VPN.)

Yeah, I heard it was more expensive for the swiss to build good highways than just to expand the train network which they already had. ( because of all the mountains. )

And yeah, it kind of sucks that it isn't free, but internet isn't free anywhere. :(
