Maybe it's just because my sister has a baby and I'm a little bit broody.

Maybe it's because my nephew is about the same size.

But I just nearly died of cute. Gee Willikers!!

I want one!!! (but one that I can return when it cries/poops as I'm nowhere near responsible or grown up enough to deal with a baby).

Edit: Thanks Cathy. That's really nice of you =)

I just discovered I'm renting a child on Saturday night. Lovely.

(That's a synonym for nanny, right?)

No, more like the other way around. You have to pay a nanny to take care of your child, and in my idea you'd pay someone to 'loan' their kid.

(it's a joke, btw)

Yeah childminder is a nanny of sorts.

Also, on Saturday, no money will exchange hands either way! How does that level out with your angle?

That is indeed made of ultra-refined cute, Garm. And I usually can't stand larval humans. I think it's the fact that he has the same hat as you that does it.

Baby sitting is a good way to get your kid fix. It's a win for everyone, really. You get to give the kid back and the parents pay you money for letting them have some free time.

@Sly, thanks! We found his hat at a baby store in Boulder and then had to make a special trip to the hat store Denver to find a matching hat.

@Jillton, I thought I wasn't ready to be a parent either and then little-Mr.-Surprise came along. :) I think I've done more growing up than he has. :D

@Garm - It's the whole hands on the hat thing that make that picture. Combined with the (lack of) expression, it gives the impression that he knows exactly what's going on and is deliberately posing.

Made a 'beard or no beard' post a while back. The unanimous consensus was 'beard' (and more hair in general). This jived (anyone else think the past tense of jive should be jove?) with my personal preference, so...

This picture comes from a recent backpacking trip through the Grand Canyon and Utah national parks.

In my defense:

- This is after about a week of not showering.
- It is apparently very possible to get hat head when your hair is only a half an inch long.
- In the interest of getting the beard as long as possible as fast as possible, I hadn't been trimming it at this point, hence the scraggly.

Also, I've learned that my beard seems to grow several times faster than the hair on my head. I had a buzz cut of about half that length when I started growing the beard. Now, without having trimmed either at any point, the beard seems to be longer than the head hair.

That impression may well be accurate. Kids that age can pick up on a lot.

And wow, that's a good beard. As mentioned, a little scraggly, it will probably look better trimmed a bit. But I'm still jealous.

Very possible. I've always had a difficult time with estimating when kids are able to talk/walk/do other things. I just don't have a very firm grasp of at what ages certain abilities manifest. Possibly this is significantly compounded by once having a neighbour who had an infant child where you could just tell that that baby was watching and absorbing everything that was going on around it.

It's a very humbling experience to look into the eyes of a nine month old who is already smarter than you.

Speaking of facial hair, I have been maintaining roughly this level of stubble for some time now thanks to the miracle of beard clippers. Who votes I grow it out to a full-on beard? Who votes that I go further and shave the top of my head so that it looks like my head is upside down?

Sly, here's my vote: Image

On a more serious note, your stubble looks pretty full. Which is to say that your beard probably won't have gaps.

That's one crazy seagull Aurum. Hopefully it didn't crap on your hands.

I'm going to place these in spoilers, because I got indecisive. And the first post doesn't say I can't post more than one picture. And I am not reading 489 pages just to post.

Me pre-haircut (my hair is tied back here, I don't have any photos on this machine with it out. Circa mid-last year):

The post-haircut ones were taken just after I got home from work this afternoon, at Mickey D's, so please don't judge me on my greasiness.

I got confused when I was going through the pictures because you look like you actually have less hair in the pre-haircut one (you can't really tell it's been tied back). I like the post hair cut though.
