Mathias would the pronounced about the same as Mattias.

Mat — pronounced about the same as brand name Mattel.
ti — pronounced about the same as the word "tee".
as — pronounced about the same as "hus" in the word "hustle".

Charolastra comes from the film Y Tu Mama Tambien as a portmanteau of space cowboy in Spanish.

From the film (as translated by someone else on the internet):

"With charolastra brotherhood come greatest powers and principles that must be followed by word according to sacrosanct manifesto:

1. There is no greater honor than being a Charolastra.

2. Do whatever you feel like.

3. Pop beats poetry.

4. Get high at least once a day.

5. You shall not screw another Charolastra’s girl.

6. Whoever likes Team America is a fag.

7. Whacking off rules.

8. Never marry a virgin.

9. Whoever roots for Team America… (it’s worth repeating)

10. Truth is cool, but unattainable.

11. The asshole who breaks any of the previous rules loses his title of 'Charolastra'."

Well, mine was the result of a huge debate in our science class I started over what punctuation mark should be used on a lab question. The entire class ended up split between whether to use a question mark or an exclamation point, when I pulled out my laptop and found the interrobang, which has solved everyone's punctuation problems ever since.

Unrelated, but since we're in the username thread...

Every time I see your handle, I think of it as "voice dottir," as in "offspring of vocals." I'm guessing I'm supposed to think of it as "voiced otter," since of course that's what it actually says. Details, right? :P

well I guess I should have thought about people misreading it when I signed up. Yes you are supposed to see it as Voiced Otter
My other username I use at other places was an old XBL GT that I picked from the suggestions list when all the ones I wanted were taken. It stuck with me for a long time

Oh and I just created a banner addressing the issue of how to say my name. It was a 1 minute job in Paint

I was given the name as part of a game I was playing. That's were it comes from.

I was sitting around a few years ago racking my brain to come up with some cool name to use for Naruto-Arena. I came up with this and sometimes I feel slightly discontented whenever I see someone else using the name online.

Moral of the story: I hate Naruto-Arena now. They ruined all of the characters and game mechanics and I haven't played in a couple of years.

Started playing Warcraft when it came out (III - RTS) and my username was Kendras (Later, my paladin on the MMO), then it adapted to Kendrubbin -- Kendras / Drubbin (Sniper TF2 - Bloody Good Drubbin') -- Suprisingly the only two games I actually play.

In dwarf fortress, artifacts tend to have random decorations in them.
They almost all "menace with spikes of $something".

Spiked flay may seem okay, but a spiked bed? Spiked thong menacing with spikes of steel? Spiked chair? Hat menacing with spikes of soap? Anvil with spikes of charcoal?

The menace with spikes thing became kind of a meme over there, and the meme amused me, so hey.

There's also a type of item called a "menacing spike." (And if it's an artifact, one can indeed have a menacing spike that menaces with spikes.)

I don't like rye bread.

Rachel shortens to Ray, but my cousin years ago was barely talking and mispronounced it all the time as "Rye." The rest of my family thought this was hilarious, and I became Rye or Rye Bread. Or to my grandfather, pumpernickel. It spread enough that friends introduce me as Rye and not Rachel, and a few teachers called me it. I'm more likely to answer to Rye than Rachel or Ray now.

Oh me yarm, because Oh me yarm. and you get my username. Sometimes I just use ryebread, or omgrye.

Madoc is the name of a powerful wizard in a book series i loved as a kid (I have had the same username for years and years) I added a k, because people always said it wrong, and 345 so I could use it in as many places as possible without someone else taking it first (so far that hasn't happend yet, except when I forget I have an account somewhere already and try to make a new one.)

I was thinking about food at the time, and ended up combining a few words together. Frying Pan + frying pan on fire = flaming frying pan. Random adjective prefix gives Mighty Flaming Frying Pan. It also relates to my username on another forum: Omlette. :)

Right now it's just something I came up with, but it's about to becoming weweresmashing, which is something from tumblr. It's making fun of the Wild Thornberries (where Nigel always said Smashing!) and Perks of Being a Wallflower (In that moment, I swear we were infinite.)

Nothing overly fun, sadly.

This was the first place online I've ever been where my username wasn't taken. I fell very lucky to have it, especially here.
If you ever find yourself asking, "is the answer to the question, "is the answer to the question, "am I the only one?" no?" no?" The answer is still no, but you should probably close all those Logic Puzzles tabs and go to sleep.

I love love LOVE the Red Dragon/Silence of the Lambs/Hannibal books...and Hannibal Lecter fascinates me. I've never found a person, real or fictional, that mixed so many traits I find admirable with so many that I find repulsive. I was looking for something that didn't tie my RL identity to my online identity, so I could talk freely about my sexuality/gender identity without worry.

Over the summer, I ended up with a stomach bug/fever and was thus confined to the house for three days. Two of the things that entertained me through that period were xkcd and Stars' album In our Bedroom After the War. I took my name from one of the songs, The Ghost of Genova Heights. I certainly felt like a ghost that day. XP

I was choosing a username for Runescape (way back in '05), and was brainstorming something besides "Skulldeath######."

I'd heard the name "Thor" somewhere or other (an RPG randomized name, I think), and thought it was pretty cool. At the time I was completely oblivious to its importance in Norse mythology so I was getting pissed off that all the names with "Thor" in them were taken, and I couldn't understand why. So, I started using various suffixes that weren't numbers. Coincidentally, I have a periodic table next to my desk, and the first word I saw as I looked around was "gold."

Thus, "Thorgold" and variations thereof has become my handle for pretty much eveything. Hell, it's even my paintall callsign :P

...though even THIS name I've found to be in use elsewhere, lord knows how.

False Prophet came from an argument I was having with a Fundamentalist Christian on IRC. I was looking for a new name and in the course of the argument she called me a False Prophet. I liked it so I rolled with it.
