SuperTD: Some random guy thought it would be very witty to change my name to "The Dave". This got shortened to "TD", and it kind of stuck. I put Super in front because it improves my self esteem.

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

Pre-round setup time during a DoD:S OGL match, and we were waiting for the last guy on the other team to arrive, and had already discussed our plan of action. Somewhere in between of killing each other with rockets in spawn, me and another teammate found our way into some water (this was on dod_anzio) and proceeded to have a melee duel underwater... like sharks!

I also happened to be baking a pizza at the time, and I was also marginally drunk. Combine shark + pizza = Some Asshole! (or sharkpizza, but the first one sounds better.) To my knowledge, it's a handle no one else has ever used in the games I play. It's already in use on YouTube and AIM, oddly enough, but I guess there are enough people using those services that it had to happen eventually. I'll just have to go murder them and take it for myself... freaking impostors.

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

Upon arrival at college, it became evident that switching to AIM would be prudent. Hour or so later, I still hadn't managed to enter a user-name that hadn't already been taken, and I steadfastly refused to enter random numbers after my ideas. I was angry and looking for a name that no one had picked, so I told 'them' that:

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

Uh, "ethraax" was just something I named myself online when I was... 10? It's just a corruption of my name. For consistency, it hasn't changed, except for a couple online communities that know me as "Searing". I've been thinking about changing it, but since it's in everything (website, email, aim, etc) and seems to be completely unique, I probably won't.

Derailment: username pronunciation! Ones that come to mind for me:

rnew -> "are-new"
xndrew -> "zandrew"
hit3k -> "hit-three-kay", though I suddenly realized it's probabily "hi-tech."

I am so sorry for mangling your name(s).

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

When I first got online, c. 1995, I could use my first name everywhere because it's relatively uncommon in English circles. After about 2002 or so, that became impossible. I was quite annoyed to find others using *my* name in various fora, especially when they confessed that it wasn't their real name!

So I started looking for alternates. I think my current nick came from the frustration of finding a unique, rememberable name on eBay. I was so thoroughly annoyed by the lack of available options that I started thinking of poisonous words like "toxic". Lo, poxic was born. I was kind of disappointed to learn, later, that it is in fact a sort-of-real word, and that it's already taken in many other places.

I always imagined your name would be pronounced "renew". At least that's how I look at it. Flows a bit better, in my opinion.

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

Huh. This thread has been around since 2007, yet I've never posted in it. That's pretty strange, although I'm sure I've explained somewhere why I picked this name? Probably in one of the numerous threads where Lani and I were trying to explain how we pronounce our usernames.

Anyway, when I was in middle school, this kid Bill used to call me different names, trying to piss me off. Eventually he came up with Lani. I actually liked the name, so I pretended I hated it. So he kept calling me Lani, and eventually it sort of stuck. I didn't actually know it was a real name. I added the -cita at the end when I tried to sign up for websites and it was already taken. I thought that adding -cita was superhip because it sounds Spanish, although I'm not Spanish, I just used to take Spanish in high school. And now it's just easy to keep using it, so I do.

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

When I tried to join, I figured I'd need a fun & witty username. I chose "Biscuit".

Then I discovered that was taken.
So I changed it to "CrunchyFoodstuff" - because biscuits are, well, crunchy and food(stuff)...

Which on second thought, of course after I pushed the "Register" button, was not witty at all, lacks something, and even may sound dorky.

My username sucks! (I should have that as my title)

...I really should have gone with what I normally use on other fora (Salamander).

I use a different username on every forum I'm on. It simplifies things. My usual methods are to either use StumbleUpon* to go to some web page I've never seen before and jab my finger at the screen until it lands on a word, or to do basically the same thing with a dictionary. This time I wound up with bratwurst.

Well, it's because in all those Bing Crosby movies that were around when my dad was growing up, there was always a Sgt. O'Malley or a good Father O'Malley, who was usually the most honest man in the city or was really nice. So, when I was born, he named me O'Malley. He knew it would make me unique, too.

Myself and a few friends were in our year 12 maths studies class. In an effort to keep awake, we turned on our laptops, pretended to be reading the textbook on them, and played Soldat. I need a username, and I had already (during an unending english class) come up with the idea of an eight-sided claymore anti-personal mine called a Destructogon, so i just changed it into a form similar to juggernaught or something like that.

I used to think I was pretty good at Soldat. Now I fail miserably at it

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

Mine was actually humourously coined by my dad one day during a drive home from a warplane museum we volunteered at. I played School Reach back in high school, and was one of the aces of the team (and in my graduating year, THE ace). Myself, and one of my best friends, J, both had long hair, and our friend and teammate postulated that this was the reason we were both running up big scores. After relating this story to my dad, he responded, "Yep, that there'd be your old Samson Effect."

And so, Samsoneffect has been my handle in almost every internet hangout I've been in for the last five years or so. Additionally, my hair remains long to this day. I like it that way, and the chicks seem to dig it.
Most people would post something witty, humourous, or perhaps offensive in their signature. Unfortunately, you won't find anything like this here.

### Re: How'd you come up with your username(s)?

Very simply actually. In high school I had a bio class what was way too easy. Showing up to class and promptly falling asleep was about all the work I did and it was good for a 98% test average. Anyways we had a lab where we needed to construct models of certain molecules, and when we got to galactose, the guy across the table from me said, "You know, Galactose sounds like the name of a supervillain... the evil galactose..."

And so we made an entire comic book universe about how Glucose battled Galactose (they're remarkably similar molecules so they were brothers) with Glucose's sidekick Fructose, and they fired molecules at each other and it was all great fun.

erm.... that sounds alot more sinister than i meant it.
I'm usually a combo of my first and last names on places i dont mind ppl knowing my names. Elsewhere i'm this or in the past i've been eureKA-T. like Eureka + kat.

When I was a kid, I loved the novel Black Beauty by Anne Sewell. There's a white Welsh pony called Merrylegs in the novel and he's a very cheeky, happy little pony. I liked it because my name, Mervi, is quite similar to the beginning of the name. I'm also usually a very merry person. Also I have legs, which is always a bonus. I used merrylegs as my username in many places, but eventually got bored with it. I decided that I want a Finnish username and roughly translated merrylegs into Finnish. 'Ilo' means joy or happiness and 'koipi' is a colloquail word meaning leg. I also like the fact that it's fun to type because all the letters are close to each other.

Hehe
When I was in like Grade 5 I needed a name for a temporary side character in some story I was writing/thinking up. Because I was feeling particularly uncreative at the time and didn't need the character for anything more than a minor villain, I just took an existing name and changed it a bit.

I took hrobi from Neopets and changed the h to an n; nrobi.

After a while I decided I really liked the character, but the name just looked like shit.

So I just complicated the spelling to EnRohbi.
This was a long ass time ago.
The name has grown on me a lot.

Sadly, "Tautology" is becoming less available as websites crowd up, so I have another username, i_eat_spoons, generated out of frustration at lack of availability.

I first used Poochy at a video game site, if I remember correctly. This was before I had any amount of originality in me, and just about every well-known video game character and countless combinations of "<character name> <number>" were taken. So I named myself after a more obscure character, Poochy, the dog from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (see my avatar), which has always been one of my favorite classics. And as a side benefit, I can quote the game, specifically the extra stage from world 1. "Extra 1: Poochy Ain't Stupid"

I'm a huge Dr Who fan, and Nyssa is one of my favourite companions. She's pretty and also smart at the maths and science stuff, and I liked that about her. Anyways, can't remember how but it became my nickname at highschool and I transferred that over to the internet a while back. The brackets are around my name because one of the first places I signed up to needed at least one non-alphanumeric character in the nickname and I liked the way they looked, so I kept them.
