Christmas: What did you get?

Postby voicedotter » Sat Dec 25, 2010 6:55 pm UTC

Pretty self explanatory really.
I got the idea from another forum I am a member of coz we do this every year.

So here is my list.
I got a set of computer speakers and a computer mouse for my laptop from my German host family.
From them I also got a book about Nürnberg as well as a Sweatshirt.
From my Aunt in London I got a Scarf and another Sweatshirt.
From my parents I got 2 books from the Dragon riders of Pern Series.
From my Gran I got 2 pairs of warm socks which I'll need while I'm here in Germany.
I have 1 gift from my cousins and their parents left for when I get home.

I got a Christmas ornament today.
...
And I'll be getting my video game sometime soon.
Along with some money.

(Don't worry: I usually don't get much for Christmas. But usually I get it all on the day.)

I got a Gorillapod, a few lottery tickets, an IOU for an interesting watch I wanted but couldn't find at the time, assorted doodads, and some cash.

- Some socks and corduroys from my mom
- My parents forgave a lot of my debt to them (which I accrued while moving and buying things for my first apartment) and also finally shipped a bunch of boxes of books that I've been waiting for since I moved
- Amnesia: The Dark Decent on Steam from a friend (which I am really perplexed about because I do NOT do anything remotely scary... which he should know since he dated me for almost a year)
- some money from family

Christmakkah isn't really all that big of a deal with my family and friends.

I got some bespoke tailored corduroy trousers and some nice linen "grandad" shirts,
Socks which I always ask for as it saves buying my own,
A selection of Bow Ties,
A few of the rarer douglas adam's books to complete my colection (I now have each and every piece of his work, which is awesome),
2 "Yards of Jaffa Cakes"
and small amount of money which was promptly spent on ebay, buying new crampons.

Basically I'm set for casual clothes for another decade or so :P

I love the "grandad"style shirts.
Bow ties are cool.
I still need to read a couple of his books.
I see you like ice climbing. You would probably like my brother, because he does a course for outdoor education and recreation back home in New Zealand

Now I'm afraid I can't resist but to do this

Socks, wireless headphones, money, soap, and a gift-card to a clothing-store, which I used to buy a pair of trousers and a shirt.

Loot:
Two lens filters for my hassy (grad ND, polarizer), two bottles of single malt scotch (Laguvlin 16, Glenmorange 12), winter coat, Always Sunny in Philadelphia Seasons 1 & 2, NATO watch strap, new safety razor, a mug, Earth: The Book, and a Angry Birds stuffed yellow bird (from the lil' sis).

My mother always tends to go a little overboard with gifts cause she hardly sees us anymore.

I got some new shoes, two books, a Bill Bailey DVD and a window decoration my sister made.

My family agreed to not give each other much since we're all really poor at the moment, so it's a bit different from some previous years, but it's quite nice really not to have a stack of stuff that I don't really need. The shoes meet approval since I'm sick of getting wet feet when it rains :)

Fallout 3 from my brother, a really soft fleece pullover from my sister, and a very, very nice pair of headphones from my parents, in addition to socks and some assorted Christmas candy. Including a reindeer that poops candy!

Some fluffy towels, a cookbook and a bust of the Stig with Top Gear DVDs inside.

Sheol and I don't give each other anything since we don't celebrate Christmas (though we help our families celebrate theirs, hence the above acquisitions). But our anniversary is on the 28th, so we treat ourselves to fancy restaurants and/or cosy B&Bs. This year it's both, staying out at Daylesford and eating at the Lake House. But we also bought ourselves another cookbook, just because it's awesome and we couldn't resist.

Not counting the gifts from my Secret Santys here (due to a strange mix-up, I ended up receiving from two people), I got:

A variety of homemade goodies from a co-worker
A pack of cookies from my boss...they were rather stale
A card from "Santa" (another co-worker, no doubt...was at work) with $20
$30 from parents
Earlier this month I had gotten $25 from my grandmother in Alabama

I believe the most expensive gift I got was a power cable for my Macbook. $85 for that? Even the crap rip-off I was using before cost me thirty.

Anyways: Awesome presents: Books: Backyard Ballistics and The Amazing Story of Quantum Mechanics. Also: A wireless headset, which means I can finally listen to stuff in stereo! My computer has a weird issue where the left output of the audio jack is borked. And I bought for myself the most entertaining racing game ever: Burnout: Paradise: A Racing Game which Can Be Played Entirely for the Crashes. They're beautiful.
