Sprak. Or more specifically, mini-Sprak. It is a grotesque creature that evolved in 3D modeling class one morning I had a severe headache but was trying to get work done anyway. He lives in a silicone based world, hence the crystal flower.

I found a picture on Jason Heath's blog of a guy playing bass with the Death Star in the sky above him.

Then I resized it to fit the size restriction here.

This is Arcturus Mengsk from Starcraft. He's a decent-looking face, and therefore makes a decent avatar.

It's a visualization of Langton's ant. A pixel is a square. Rather than showing the colors in the automaton, I had the ant leave a trail, starting with yellow, and getting progressively more red as time went on. This makes a prettier picture, and also shows about how long and at what the ant was in a certain region.

It's meant to be a bit of a pun on my username, so I tried to make it look like a lit match.

I like the colors of the sky and the shapes of clouds, I've always had an affinity for Lakitu (the geeky weather-mages of the Mushroom Kingdom in my personal fanon), I like remixes and that includes recontextualizing video game sprites, and I wanted something visually distinctive even after variations on the foreground were made, hence the circular form and transparency.

Mine is me. I was paint balling, and ended up getting a picture taken of me. Because I happened to be in a gravel pit the background, if made unsuitably blurry looked more like a waste land. I put it through some filters in Photoshop and that was the result. I also started reading 1/0 it isn't bad. Though I should be sleeping...

Cropped from this wallpaper (NSFW). Image of Rena Kunisaki in a drastically different art style than usual. Made it my avatar because it's awesome.

My mom reads the livejournal of this woman who draws cats. She saw this one, called me and said "this is so you". And I have to agree, it does subtly reflect several aspects of my personality.

I had no idea what to use, and I was reading The Gunslinger at the time, so I googled that, because, 'the gunslinger' totally sounds like something that you search on Google Image and then you find a lot of pics of bad ass-cowboys with big guns, and that's exactly what happened. Maybe I should change it, though, because it does not represent me in any meaningful way.

A few weeks ago, I started a thread on stories about brain-breaking things. Phlip posted an artist's impression of a basilisk image, and I had to appropriate it for my own ends. :D

Even though I know it doesn't actually do anything, I get a slight chill every time I look at it.

So that's why your av keeps giving me the creeps! Seriously, it was, and I couldn't figure out why. Because it's an artist's rendition of something from the "comp.basilisk FAQ". Sweet. My brain's gonna go melt now. *shudder*

My (new) avatar is something I knocked up with model viewer software for World of Warcraft that allows you to take any in-game model file, see it when equipping certain items and any animation effects. This one just so happened to be the only one in my collection that wasn't too large for this forum. It shows an amphibious serpent creature from the game with a endgame shield and spear and armour set in a battle-ready position that I thought would look quite effective at the time.

It's not great, but it's more original than using someone's animated gif of the Mobius-Battle xkcd strip.

It's a sad minotaur from Radiohead's Amnesiac artwork (also on I Might Be Wrong). I thought it'd be a good idea if I had an avatar, mostly to find where I last posted before I found the 'First Unread Post' button. I like the minotaur, but I'm not sure I want to keep him. Would something more goat-y be tacky?

It's drawn by LE4dGOLEM, then inked and coloured by me via Gimp.

Variants:

(Right to left: original, Nov. 5, Thanksgiving, Christmas)

Gotta remember to make a grieving variant, a towel day variant, and an easter ariant. (missed Valentine's)

I also had two other, short-lived avatars.
All my avatars have been Watchmen-themed, and only that first one has not been Rorschach. I'm going to keep to that theme.
