I recently changed it to:

...which was lovingly stolen from this QC strip for no reason other than the fact that I liked it and found it vaguely amusing. After a while discussions in a thread turned to imagining people as their avatars and I decided to photoshop mine to look more like me (because I really didn't want to do the essay I was writing at the time)

I never really read QC before I clicked on that link.

I've been reading it all morning.

Well, in the course of this... entire day... I read from 1631 to 1910. So I'm up-to-date, but missing a bunch of the backstory.

I feel like I ought to explain my avatar, but I'm not certain to what extent I'm able to.

I just keep adding details and it never gets any more explicable. In its latest incarnation I have decided to be kind to Aang and I have replaced his former ball gag with one made of my favourite kind of apple - a pink lady.

Additionally, I feel I should specify that I do in fact own the crab hat pictured.

At some point I need to scrap this avatar cycle and start over again.

Would it be really cheeky to ask if you could do one in a panama hat, suit and black shirt? I don't have photoshop, and I'd suck at it if I did.

Edit: oh, and blue eyes. My photo doesn't really show that...

Ah bollocks, beaten to it. Ah well, might as well post my effort:

As well as ballsing up the hat, I also seem to have forgotten to add shading to the clothes. Ah well, I had fun making it.

Thank you, but you have more attention to detail. Honestly what I've done isn't that special: I just drew some paths, stroked them then coloured them in in a new layer directly beneath them.

Actually I do like OBrien's better, so I'm going to be all fickle and change over to it. Sharper lines, and the 5 o clock shadow and shorter hair makes it look less feminine. Thank you both of you.

Is that from D-Day '09 or '10? I wish I could've afforded to go this year but, alas, I can only afford to attend LL4 here in Illinois. You headed to D-Day this year?

Anyway, I chose the ever-lovable, ever-deadpan Hobbes of Calvin and Hobbes fame. Not only do I find him relatable, but the Enlightenment philosopher on whom he is based is fun to study, as well.

'09, baking my ass off in Coeville. I've been there every year since '08, and will continue to head there until I die of old age or liver failure in Commonwealth Corner.

I hit up LL3 last year, CPX is a sweet field. I really wanted to do LL4, but I couldn't swing a whole month off, and, since I'm coming from the Yukon, it's not worth going home between the two and I didn't have anything to do in between. They need to move the DZs closer, though, that reinsertion walk is brutal.

Definitely the first, the latter is what I do in the shade.

But, yeah, laying or crouching in a field in Oklahoma in the middle of June with the sun directly overhead (And about 10 feet away, by my estimations) toasted my pasty hilariously northern Canadian skin to a crisp. On a skin colour scale, I went from 'Edward Cullen' to 'Jules Winnfield' in about 2 hours.

My old avatar (pre-xkcd) was some guy wearing a full burger costume with a goofy mario-style mustache and doing the shrugging gesture. I couldn't find that when I joined here, so I picked this one. I like it because I want a hat like that, and the guy wearing it looks like a kid I know from school. I'm on the look out for a better one, though. If you see anything good, please send it my way.

See how she looks so happy, as she reaches out to the sky? It's a frame from "Serial Experiments Lain", and anyone who's watched the series will know it.

Heh heh heh. It makes me smile every time I see it and remember the "I believe I can fly" music that I think pairs perfectly with it.
