Taxing!

Postby Chewbaccawacca » Sat Mar 03, 2012 2:32 am UTC

Soooo, not positive this was the place for this, but after checking elsewhere it seems my best bet.

I e-filed my 2012 tax return on February 1st and have yet to see a deposit in my bank account. I filed using the free turbo tax and I recieved an email stating that the IRS had indeed recieve my return info, but since then silence. I've tried using their return tracker tool on the IRS website but after being assured that my return should be there about 3 weeks after filing, it is now saying that they cannot locate any of my info. I know paper returns can take up to 6-8 weeks but I've always been under the impression that e-filing greatly reduces that. It's been over 4 weeks now and I'm starting to get nervous. I talked to my little sister a while back, she had filed after I did, but has already recieved her return.

Has anyone else had issues like this, or knows in general what I should look for/do? In the past I've always paid somebody else to file my taxes, this is the first year I've done it for myself and I'm unsure if this is the norm. Any help/advice is appreciated thank you in advance!

First, the IRS processes the returns where they get money. Then they give you your money.

Like the rest of us, they don't like voluntarily handing over money.

Seems to me you should have seen it by now. I got a $2,000 refund a few weeks after filing through Turbo tax. I'm not sure what steps you should take, if any. Did you get theit email that the feds accepted your return? Does the refund search page have any instructions for what to do if yours doesn't come up?

I'd create a ticket with intuit if I were you. See if they can find a problem, or let you resend without charge.

I received mine within two to three weeks of filing.

After the fed or state has received and accepted your returns, you should get another e-mail not from TurboTax, but from University National Bank, located in California. There's also a company called Santa Barbara Tax Products Group. The Fed will send the refund to them after they've processed it, and SBTPG will deduct any fees you paid TurboTax, and then send the remainder to you via check, or send it to your bank account if you opted for direct deposit. You might need to check your junk/spam e-mail folder.

The e-mail will be from tpg inquiry sixteen (at) sbtpg dot com.

Here's a link to check the status of your refund. You will have to select your Filing Status (Single, Married Filing Jointly, etc.), then enter your SSN and refund amount. It will tell you how things are going with your refund.

As for state refunds, if you filed your state return through TurboTax, there's a little bit more direct approach. The state will handle all deposits or debits, if you opted for direct deposit. Check your bank account, either online or on the next paper statement. There should be a credit or deposit, with the description "(State) Dept of Revenue Refund", or words to that effect.

Also, check your account for the following description: "Tax Products PE1 Sbtpg LLC" or words to that effect. If you see that in your statement, or online, that means your refund is in the bank.

Thanks for the help, I'm still trying to get it all sorted out. Hopefully soon I'll be able to wallow in a giant pile of money. Heh.
