*Shrougs* Then don't join, there are enough other sub forums. It's a matter of preferences. But that is the only thing joining "The Truly Free" does. BTW the only other group you can apply to join is "FF00BF BFFs" and I don't think that does anything at the moment.

It turns your username pink, mostly. And during Mod Madness, you might get your avatar changed to something silly.

It's usually in or around March of each year. The mods go mad for a week or two. They change topic titles, and oh lordy the wordfilters. Basically, the rule is "if it's funny, the mods are allowed to do it".

There are more things they do, but I can't remember many just now. I'm sure some other helpful sorts will chime in.

It's now down to a few days, unfortunately. But if you like rules you might not want to sign in for a bit. The mods just blow off steam and have fun, I think MM is the best time on the boards really.

The most obvious signs are the word filters. Every instance of (for example) "cheese" on the boards becomes (e.g.) "solidified cow extract" or some such thing. After a few days of all the mods going mental, it becomes a challenge to read other people's posts. :D It does all go back to normal after a bit, though.

And Odin help you if you try to evade the wordfilters with clever tricks during Mod Madness. The mods are not unobservant, and neither are they merciful.

(Well, when it comes to screwing around during Mod Madness, at least.)

To answer the easiest question: User Control Panel → Usergroups → Select the truly free and press submit at the bottom→ Wait till Jesse approves your request.

You are welcome to type however you want, but should also keep in mind that in a text based environment where all a person has is words, punctuation, and capitalization to look at (for the most part), it becomes what we notice. I won't say no one will judge you for it, but we do notice.

I find it silly when people don't have an environment that underlines misspelled words for them. But[sic] clearly you were doing that on purpose.

I do like correcting the grammar of people who correct other people's grammar. I'm not too nit-picky otherwise. If you can put together coherent, easy to read posts, that's enough for me. (And you do[sic].)

i dont like it when people just put together a bunch of stuff like they would say when theyre talking but dont use any punctuation or capitalization or anything. i mean theirs more than just periods people. or when people over use exclamation marks because that effects my reading of it in a tedious way. similar for all caps. its just honestly harder to get the point when people completely ignore basic ideas about riting and sellling especially when so of the misspellings are real wards. pretend this post is also like elven times longer but no paragraph breaks and youll start to understand the type of post that will make me not ever get the point the person was trying to communicate.

I'm ok with most of that (I don't like it, but I can at least read it without entering a murderous rage), so long as people capitalise their goddamn 'I's. I get angry twitches every time I read text where the 'I's aren't capitalised.

However, I would extend it slightly. If you think you are at risk of misspelling someone's user name, check it and check it again. Some users are more sensitive than others to misspellings, which includes incorrect capitalisation. While this does still fit into "Don't be a dick", it's part of realising that you can be a dick by not paying attention, not just by deliberately acting dick-ish. That said, I'm used to people calling me Conman or even conman, but it does still feel a bit weird.

In case you were wondering, I purposefully wrote grammar "grammer" as a joke. Well at least I learnt that some types of humor go down better than others on this forum.

What Ulc said, except the chewing gum part. I care much more about your writing than your speech. My annoyance IRL has more to do with your attitude or personality than the way you speak. Same in forums, but I actually have to read your words in order to assess that.

It is what happens when you get a bunch of, on average, reasonably intelligent people together and tell them that as long as they don't break the law they can do pretty much what they want. A bunch of faffing around, emergent social behaviour, experimentation, confession, conversation, argument, and a certain amount of people being dicks because, well, few people manage to never be dicks but as long as you're a dick in an amusing way you can usually get away with it every now and then.

As far as the first, I guess I'm just confused as to what's unclear about this. It seems fairly straightforward, but.. perhaps I am biased.

As for the second - I recommend PM'ing Jesse. That's all around good advice anyway. Bored? PM Jesse. Hungry? PM Jesse. Sleepy? PM Jesse. Tired of talking to Jesse? PM Jesse.
