Death Threats

Postby Plamo » Wed Aug 15, 2007 4:18 am UTC

Has any one else been on the receiving end of a death threat?

The only one I've ever gotten was way back in grade five, when I called a girl by a butchered version of her last name (and it wasn't even rudely said!). Well, I now have a note, it says 'If you ever call me that again, I will kill you!' The best part of it is that it's was written on purple paper with pink hearts on the background.

Anyone else have stories?
Uselessnesses... what a silly word.

Death threats that incidentally included me because they were blanket threats, and indeed, most likely it wasn't realized that I was included in the threat.

Repeatedly, though only by my sister.

And yes, that counts. She also threatened to kill Nougat, our homeless friend, and in an indirect way, my friend Catherine.

Bitch be crazy. And she was our roommate, and my boss.

We put a lock on the door, sent the cat to my mom's house, told the homeless kid to find somewhere else to stay, and moved as soon as possible. (The being-my-boss thing was solved when she was fired.)
Heyyy baby wanna kill all humans?

These retarded Gangsta Pot Dealers threatened to kill the entire staff of the hobby shop I worked in because an R/C car part we sold them broke (because they used it wrong).

We banned them from the store. Their mom came in to pick the part up later. I swear they were at least 27.

Sure. Say, isn't it silly when someone threatens to "end" you? Like it's somehow worse, somehow more final than killing, like they don't just come across as being scared to use the word "kill". Makes me laugh when they say it in the movies. Does anyone really say it, in the English speaking parts of the world?

If you want to include as English-speaking places terraformed moons. Of the future. Ruled by an Alliance. In a Western-ish setting, during a heist.

I have received plenty over the story that I told everyone in this post about the girl I liked at the time.
In fact, I received a death threat the other day, even though it happened 3 years ago. I talked to the girl about it and she doesn't even know half the people that want to kill me.
So I 'meow' a lot... Get used to it!

I say this all the time. Usually in a melodramatic voice, and usually over something trivial, like someone losing a pen I lent them. Other favourites are "I shall exact a shrieking vengeance upon your soul," and "your agony shall burn like the fire of one thousand suns."

But yeah, death threats. I told one of my close friends that I was bisexual the other day, it came up in the conversation. There was a long silence, and then he said something to the effect of "If you ever act gay around me or hit on me I will fucking kill you." I was thinking "What the christ, since when did I ever imply I was interested in you as anything more than a friend, and how does my being open about myself change things?"
We don't talk so much now.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I don't think he was serious about the killing part.

I'm queer and out, and have been for a decade, so I've gotten death threats. Most of them online and half-hearted.

It shook me up the first few times--I didn't think anyone would actually hurt me, but the idea that anyone could hate me that much when they didn't even know me. :(
This is not a reference to anyone's junk.

In your position, I would have said exactly as much:
"With a face like yours, you don't need to worry."

Or with less subtlety:
"Don't worry, I'm not into ugly dudes."

Or the old standby:
"That's not what your mom said last night."

Then again I've never been even quasi-seriously threatened with death. My friends and I joke about it a lot, either melodramatically or understated:

"Where are we going?"
"Well, tool shed, then lime pit."

In middle school while playing basketball. A girl on the other team said she'd kill me if I didn't stop guarding her. Uh..

And then last year someone in my chem class said they wanted to stab me. Which I take with a large freaking chunk of salt because that girl is nuts but not nuts.

I'm queer and out, and have been for a decade, so I've gotten death threats. Most of them online and half-hearted.

:( That's horrible, I'm sorry. Some people suck a lot.

@swampangel:

What really got me was the instant assumption that I was considering them as a partner in a relationship, and was instantly aggressive. I can't even begin to contemplate the thought processes that must have been going on there.

@kcr:

At my intermediate school there was one kid who would threaten to hurt or kill people for not inviting him to play tag or whatever. Not for excluding him from playing, but for not inviting him immediately. In hindsight, I suspect he may have had some issues to work out.

I understand. I have one friend who I was surprised to discover is quite homophobic in the same sort of knee-jerk way. To wit, upon being told someone he'd gone to school with had moved out west with a boyfriend, he said "FUCK! He's GAY? I used to be FRIENDS with him!"

But my post above is how I deal with people like that. If I reply with something ridiculous or offensive, sometimes it makes them notice that their initial comment was taken to be ridiculous or offensive. At the very least, it can turn the tables and put them in an uncomfortable spot instead:

"Don't worry, I'm not into ugly dudes."
"What the FUCK does that mean?!"
"Whoah, sorry. You were being serious before?"

This is like the next step up on the scale of melodramatic death threats.

-Lowest-
"I'm going to fucking kill you"
"I will end your existence"
"I shall exact a shrieking vengeance upon your soul"
"Your agony shall burn like the fire of one thousand suns"
"I'm going to fucking castrate you with a wooden spoon"
-Highest-

All of these are of course said in your best impersonation of the voice-over guy from movies.

When I fell asleep while being the only one that could unlock the gym door and let everyone back in. Woke up to find such text messages as "How dare you fall asleep you slag, I'll gut you like a fish."

I once received a death threat and I wasn't even present for it.

The short version is that when I was working at a video store, I put a note on someone's account saying that they could not rent anything until the late fees were paid. The next time the person came in I was not working and the people there informed him that he could not rent anything without settling his account. He then proceeded to say how he was going to wait for me in the parking lot and so on and so forth.

Come to think of it, I received a few death threats because of late fees. People really like their porn.

There was this one night stand mistake. A month later, her fiancée sent me an icq message (he hadn't even met her when the hookup happened) saying he would kill me. Also said he would have me arrested.

There is this one psychotic kid at my school who is on who knows how many drugs. He is friends with some bitchy little girl who hates me for some reason (smokes pot, probably related). So every now and then she gets him to make threats on my life if I ever do whatever to her again (I usually have not even spoken to her let alone done anything). One time she actually came up to me at lunch after I had gotten her bag back from somebody who took it and she started hitting me, I pretty much just raised my arm to block her and later her druggy thug says he's going to kill me if I ever touch her again. My school is full of nutsos.

There was this literally psychotic kid who would constantly follow me around in middle school, well, my friends and Iaround. Well ,we'd tell him to go away and leave us alone and stuff, but he would always try to ruin whatever it was we were doing. Well, one day I jsut insult him, and he goes nuts and attacks me, punches me a few times and w/e. Well, I grab his arm, twist it behind his back, knee him in the facegrab hi heair, pull his head back and deck him, knee him in the balls, sweep a leg under him to knock him off his feet, grab his leg, and toss him over my shoulder. Well the gym teacher saw this, and he calls me over and asks what happened, and he knows me pretty well so I jsut tell him he attacked me, and he's just like "Good job man, you kicked ass."
