Anyone know a good BT tracker?

I've been using torrents for a while but never created one before. Now I need to distribute a 1.68 GB avi render of a concert DVD that I produced and would like to use BT, but don't know my way around this tracker business. I do know that some trackers require the creator to register and that some also require people to have a password or an account to download. I am fine with registering myself but need for people to be able to connect to me without needing a password or account with the tracker.

I looked up Demonoid since it's gigantic and I find a lot of torrents marked as hosted there, but it's invite-only. I don't really know where to go from there.

Thread move to Help Desk, anyone?

And no. But being on dial-up, I wouldn't.

I'm not sure if this is what you need, but Azureus can make .torrent files. Then you can just submit it to any big sites, like Isohunt and torrentspy.

I can PM you a Demonoid invitation if you want.

That would be great, Ketzerei.

@Castaway: Unfortunately no, I can make the file with uTorrent, and Isohunt/Torrentspy are search engines, not trackers.

hmmm, i'm an idiot and have no idea what I'm talking about. I thought you could just host it from your computer and distribute it yourself.

Bakemaster: sent.

Castaway: You need a tracker to do the coordination stuff, I believe. It's not something most people's computers are in a position to do themselves.

Well, there's decentralized tracking, but not all BT clients have that ability and I'm not sure if it works as well.

I'm all set on Demonoid now, thanksya. Already got a peer. \m/

You can be your own tracker with µtorrent, no tracker site necessary.

I know I will probably be torn to pieces and fed to wild animals for asking this, but could I please have a demonoid code? Somebody, anybody? I tried to register last time it was open, but never got an e-mail.

If you send me one I will name my firstborn child of the appropriate gender after you!

It would be pretty cool to name a kid Umbrae.

Shadows in latin, yep.

Only thing that would suck is that people might confuse it for Hombre. Which is considerably less awesome.

Demoniod isn't too great. I use Isohunt.com for games and movies.

I promise to keep my end of the deal. That being said, I'm only 17 and don't intend to have any children for quite some time yet, but I will definitely keep you in mind when the time for name said hypothetical children comes around!

The Pirate Bay
Demonoid
Are the top 2 trackers i know of. Demonoid seem to be hosting more and more of the top content these days.

Alot of the others are just search engines (Mininova is pretty good btw).
µtorrent is nice, does the job well with little resources. Azureus is by far the most feature filled and the most popular atm, but a resource hog (*sigh* stupid java).

Just fyi.

I'd really like a Demonoid invite, as my current dorm doesn't have a local DC-hub, which my previous one had! It was great!

Hmm, I wanna see a movie. *Downloads 4GB rip and goes to the store to buy candy* And when I'm back it's finished!

I can offer another invite in return.

Oh, in case anyone's interested, the file I'm torrenting is a DVD I produced of the meetup/concert series, SongFight! Live 2005: Sox and Rock. It's 2 hours, 11 minutes in duration and includes both good music and... not so good music. I doubt it will be of much interest to people who aren't into SongFight already, but what the hell, here's a download link.

I got a Demonoid account but I never really use it, because it's Invite only what's uploaded is really specialised to the people who are invited. Often they don't have the anime or games I'm looking for.

isohunt.com is the easiest one to find stuff with imho.

That's one thing I miss about school, running the DC hub. :(

Yes, but you do have the advantage of far fewer dead torrents when users are required to keep a certain share ratio (except it doesn't update for some people).

And any torrent file you find on demonoid can be easily given to another person. They don't have to register to get the torrents. And it doesn't have any negative effect on your share ratio. Now that I've said this, I'm sure they'll do something about it. (or not, you never know)
