Enabling/finding router wifi

Postby poxic » Mon Jan 16, 2017 12:31 am UTC

Blargh.

I have an Asus RT-N12 router with wifi available. For the last 2-3 years I've been running it with the wifi disabled (or at least i hope it was) since I didn't have any notable wireless tech.

Now I do! And I'd like to be able to use this modern wizardry! But I am having pain because I am decreasingly competent with crap the older I get.

Here's the router's main wireless tab. So far so good, or have I screwed up already? Where else should I be checking for things? (SSID and WPA key deleted for obvious reasons.)

Spoiler:

In case of unreadability:
SSID - [yes, I put one in]
Hide SSID - No
Wireless mode - N only ("b/g protection" is unchecked)
Channel bandwidth - 20/40 Mhz
Control channel - Auto
Extension channel - Auto
Authentication method - WPA2-Personal
WPA encryption - AES
WPA pre-shared key - [there's a password in this field]
Newtwork key rotation interval - 360

So... what specific pain are you having? Are you not seeing the SSID on your devices? Are you seeing it but failing to connect? Connecting but not getting data?

Or is it working but you're just worried that something isn't right?

If it's the last one, you should be fine as long as the password is strong.

I can't find the network name on the available connections list, nor search for it by SSID name. I feel rather like I'm missing something basic.

Maybe your device can't use N? Try changing that option to g or so.
