nVidia ForceWare

Postby LittleChrist » Wed Dec 05, 2007 11:37 pm UTC

So, I downloaded the Crysis Demo, and I want to play it on my PC. nVidia recommends downloading the Forceware Release 169 Beta for my nVidia GeForce 8600 GS. My questions are, is that driver necessary? Why is it beta? Is there any impact on other games? Why is my regular driver insufficient?

Sorry, I'm clueless when it comes to graphics cards and such.
Thanks.

obviously not, if recommended, not forced...

because it's not yet release ready? (read this as: has some bugs, needs some tests, works good enough for most users)

who could possibly know? you can try...

new driver, new technology... your driver might have some bugs, or some new abilities are added with new version...

Because nVidia is cheap and doesn't want to pay for WHQL certification on them :P

nVidia recommends the beta drivers usually for performance reasons. In theory, if all they added was a shim or profile for a game not in the current driver, then it shouldn't break anything else. It'll probably help your card run the game better than the current drivers, so I'd go ahead and download it.
