Ubuntu resolution problem

Postby loungelover » Sun Jul 17, 2011 9:22 am UTC

Hi

I am having problems getting Ubuntu to recognize the display on my laptop, it wont allow a resolution any higher than 800x600 and i want to use 1280x800 which i think is the highest resolution of the monitor when i was using it in windows. I have tried what they suggest in the Ubuntu wikki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution this does not seem to work. My laptop has SIS graphics hardware and looking around seems to suggest that this might be a problem. I want to be able to use the laptop for image editing so the resolution is a big issue. I am running Ubuntu 10.10 any advise would be useful.

Thanks

Firstly you should update (if thats not the latest version).

Anyway I don't use Ubuntu but get the correct driver for your graphics card (change your xorg.conf to what it was) and then add a PrefferedMode "1280x800".
I write a blog rant here.
