Wifi "repeater" aka acess point?

Postby thanksbastards » Sun Sep 04, 2011 3:35 pm UTC

Ok, I used to play w/ wifi and computers and all that a LOT about 5 years ago, so i konw this is easily done, I have just forgotten all the terms. If someone could tell me WHAt i need to do to solve this (use key words) I can easily figure out HOW on my own.

I have WIFI in my house, WEP secured coming off a Verizon modem/router unit. When I work in the garage streaming pandora on my phone over WIFI, it tends to drop out from time to time, and the dumb phone doesn't auto continue, so its a pita to have to wash my hands just to wake it up. If i had a solid connection, I would be fine! router is in the attic, and can't be moved. I have my old WRT54g router with, uhhh, that other firmware on it. openWRT? DDRT? I flashed that maybe 8 years ago it feels like. How can I make this thing simply act as a repeater for my network to get recepetion in the garage? I assume the settings will be pretty obvious, playing with that thing was always amazingly easy compared to the factory firmware.

I can either spend 3 hours on wikipedia re-learning all the key terms of networking, or I can let you guys name em and just learn the ones I need!

later I'll start a complicated thread on getting my PS3 media server to play nice w/ my droid, the forum is written in smart ppl talk.

egg on my face, second google hit was not only exactly the info i needed, but a link to a walk thru, on a very outdated firmware version, but I think i can pull this off no problem.

anyone know why I can connect wirelessly to the router to configure it, but not using a wired connection? Eht0 connects to it, but I can't navigate to the settings page.
