Multiple Computer Restarts - No Event Log Information

Postby johncalvincoolidge » Fri Jul 27, 2012 3:39 pm UTC

So as the title says I'm kind of stuck diagnosing an issue with my computer right now.

It turns off and then back on at random intervals. I could be not doing anything, watching a video, or playing video games and it might occur.

Windows event viewer only shows the error for not doing a proper shut down and doesn't give any other errors.

I've done a Prime95 test on it and the temperatures were acceptable, and it didn't crash running the stress test so I doubt its a heating issue.

I totally rewired the inside of the computer and it still randomly shuts down.

To me it sounds like my Power Supply is going out, but I'm trying to make sure that there might not be other issues that could be causing the problem.

Standard procedure is to eliminate Windows from the equation by attempting to boot from a live Linux CD (or otherwise a Linux distro on a bootable USB disk) and see if the same problem occurs.
