Your weapon doesn't always do elemental damage (except under certain conditions, such as having the modifier text "Pele demands sacrifice!" will make it a fire elemental weapon that always does x4 fire damage). A multiplier of 1 would presumably mean that it does your weapon damage x1 as that element when it triggers. At least, I think that's what was decided on the Gearbox forums.

There's a problem on all versions of the game with item stat boxes only showing 4 attributes when it's possible for them to have more.
If you have the PC version you can fix this by following the instructions here.
No longer will you be confused as to why two guns with the same stats have different prices or accidentally sell stuff which may have some awesome ability.

Ooh, definitely better than the "use the script font because it's slightly smaller and shows one more attribute at the expense of your sanity because half the interface goes cursive" method. Too bad the infocards are still only capable of showing 5 lines. Hopefully some of these things get patched up soon.

Either I'm doing something worng or I'm a tad overleveled for where I am in the game, but I've found 2-3 alien weapons and I've been a little underwhelmed. Ya, they have unlimited ammo and they're really powerful, but it can be very hard to hit targets, and there's no elemental modifier on the damage, so it doesn't feel as powerful as the game obviously wants them to feel like. Just to be clear, I got various versions of the Eridian Cannon, and one gun with the text Pew!Pew!Pew!.

Anyone have better luck?

Don't get me wrong, I love the game. But it seems like terrible design to have two gates that lead to the same area, one that opens up on it's own and one that you HAVE to get opened up for you. If not for having to talk to that Claptrap I could have gone the entire game never opening that gate.

At least have them both stay locked until you talk to Claptrap or not make talking to Claptrap be requirement in the first place or have the mission marker only lead to the locked gate. Tons of simple solutions to keep dummies like me from getting all kinds of lost.

I can't imagine that none of the playtesters ever ran into that problem

It's easy to see where Gearbox's priorities were when they tested this game. The weapons, and the whole procedural generation mechanic, the real meat of the game, was executed practically flawlessly. The art direction is exactly how they wanted it, and the personlitie have just the right amount of personality. Quests, plot, and game flow pacing obviouslyt weren't high on the list. Honestly, I don't mind it so much when you take into account the level of quality most the game gushes.

Oh I've found lots of problems, I don't want to be the guy constantly complaining though; especially about a game that I've really been having fun with.

I will say something positive though:

I loved Old Haven. I wanted to spend more time there but I felt I was pushing my luck, really want to go back there and figure out how to get some of those chests hidden on the rooftops.

Also, anyone know how to get screenshots? Mainly of the map screen. I want to consult you guys to see if I'm crazy.

I've also found that rocket launchers aren't very good in general. They seem to be better against groups of small enemies than one powerful one - they tend to have low DPS, but wide splash damage - but in that situation an SMG or combat rifle with a decent firing rate works fine as well.

That said, I did recently find a launcher I actually like. It has better base damage than most I've seen and a 4.5X scope. More importantly, it has 4X electrical multiplier with a very high chance of effect, and fires a quick three-shot burst. It's actually pretty good at taking shields down, and it tends to stun enemies, which gives me time to switch weapons and finish them off.

Proud to say I have finished my first playthrough as Mordecai. I ended up at lvl 35. As with every other person that finished the game, I'll have to agree that the ending thoroghly sucked. But I don't really care. I was at the point where I was over-levelled and no quests were challenging, so I just wanted to get to the next playthrough.

It was worth it. When you start over, the lvl 1 bandits in fyrestone are now lvl34. Everything is tougher, there are more enemies (even in single player), and the drops are awesome. Even the ammo drops become doubled (normally 6 sniper rounds becomes 12). It's like playing a whole new game. If you're slogging through the final levels (the end game is probably the lowest point in terms of enjoyment and level design), and you are considering giving up, just know that it's all worth it when you start the second playthrough.

Just a funny note, the final boss dropped a white surplus rifle, and a white bad repeater. I was expecting at least something worth finishing the game for. Got nutin'.

How do you mean? I felt wandering the wasteland with a partner made more sense. It's more fun if you're chatting with someone you know and they're about your level, but the game's pretty distinctly designed to be multiplayer; if anything, I feel like I'm doing it wrong by soloing.

I is having a lot of fun with Borderlands single player anyway, my internet is broken. and shit when it does work :(
So this is single player only thoughts.

Strengths: Loot system + Shooting mechanics. The shooting just feels so good to me, and I can really feel the difference if I get a new gun with a different firing rate for example.

Weaknesses: Ummm, almost everything else? Partly-broken quest design, repetitive enemies, the only thing worth buying so far has been ammo upgrades, most of the skills in the tree (im soldier) seem useless to me, weak A.I.

So the running and gunning and collecting is fun enough for me to enjoy it a lot. Pity about the rest though

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I always check for new Class mods or shields every time they update or I find a new shop.

On the other hand, I don't think I've ever found any guns or grenade mods worth purchasing, especially since the grenade mods aren't as randomised.

I've found quite a few guns worth purchasing. About 20% of the guns I use are bought. For example, I just bought a corrosive law that seems a bit better than all the other pistols I've used (I'm level 25). On the other hand, I haven't seen a class mod yet in a store that trumps the ones I find.

I agree with grenade mods, though. They're really common and not very random.

IMHO, grenade mods break the loot system. There are only a few, and they're all rare. If the whole point of the color scheme was to evoke a "whoa!!" response at purple/blue/yellow drops, then why is a perfectly common, not-exceptionally-powerful transfusion greade always purple. Now, when I see a purple or blue item, I always assume it's a 'nade mod, and only when I see it's a gun or shield do I get excited. I don't see why they couldn't have just made all the types of grenades have white versions, and then random elemental/status/power/splash-radius effects make them randomly rare at times. Shield have the same issues, but they're not nearly as bad. I've only seen a few purple shields, and the one I'm using now (765 power, 95 regen, quick health regen) is awesome.

btw, playing second playthrough on single player is insanely difficult. I'm a lvl 41, and I'm struggling on some of the earlier skag quests (which are now lvl37-38 quests). Each skag cave will spit out double the enemies, and almost always a badmutha (badass of 2nd playthrough) or hardened will join the fray, many time multiples of those. When I set out to kill Moe and Marley, it was pretty epic. I died many times even though I was 3-4 lvls above the enemy. And the two of them decided to team up on me.

I've pretty much exclusively played in co-op, and the majority of the time a blue drop is a grenade mod. A lot of the green drops are as well. I think they would have done better to change the colours for grenades rather than making ALL of them blue or green.

Is anyone playing a soldier having trouble finding elemental combat rifles that aren't three-round burst? It's only recently that I found three of them, one for each element except explosion (yes, explosion is an element, right next to helium). I've had no trouble finding elemental shotguns, though - I had an orange corrosive one looted in New Haven that had the modifier "Bring out your Dead" which was fun, but I switched to a shock one to compliment my other weapons better.

Borderlands Enemy Tactics:

1) One enemy in the group will charge towards you while everyone else takes pot shots at you.

2) When that enemy is dead, the next one will charge you.

3) Repeat until all enemies are dead.

Edit: What does "+10000% Burst Count" mean? I'm assuming it increases the how many bullets burst out with one click? Because this shotgun shoots twice instantly. Also what does "The legend lives" and other similarly obscure mods mean?

Sledge's Shotgun is a cool weapon. Just make sure you don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes. It has an accuracy of ZERO. The 10000% burst fire count just makes it fire both shots with one click, but apparantly "The Legend Lives" also has a chance to knock the target back. I wouldn't know because I only ever used it on Skagzilla and I don't think he can be knocked back because he's bleedin' huge. This page on the wiki lists most of the known cryptic modifiers.
