Wow. I didn't know TF2 had snow-themed maps. It looks like the author favored brushes instead of displacements, making it look a bit blocky, but other than that, it looks like a cliche arctic spy base, and perfectly matches the TF2 art style. I like it.

We have that and more on our servers - but if anyone is looking for a particular type of map let me know here, and I'll try to find out quickly. If anyone can find the paired map you'll get extra rockets for rocket jumping to the tower on cp_glacier.

(Disclaimer: The pictures are of b2, which is unreleased yet - the major difference is that b1 was implemented before the particle system came out. cp_glacier_b2 should be out in a week or so, after he gets his detail pass done and more feedback comes in.)

I think we are just using the >:3 server now. Ryom hasn't had his up for about a year.

Nobody was using it! It has been switched to a Left4Dead server which sees more use. And it was switched 81 days ago, not 365 ;)

is the left 4 dead server ip adress the same as the one for tf2? i want to play online but whenever i do its always with griefers or kids who raegquaat this has caused me to not play left 4 dead online a lot.

I have it set as a private server to save some coin, which means that only members of my clan can start a lobby and bring people into the server with them. What I could do is create a new steam group with an invite only membership and link the steam group to the server so that if you are in the group, you can join the server. If we have a significant number of people interested in L4D I'll consider doing that. Let me know if you are via PM.

Found out the issue was TF2 and L4d conflicting with PRIO (Process Priority Saver), removing it fixed the BSOD issue. Interestingly enough, ONLY TF2 and L4D had issues with PRIO, leading me to believe it is this specific game engine version not playing nice with PRIO rather than the other way around. (Other source based games worked fine, HL2 and its Episodes, Portal for example).

But something to consider if you are having game issues.

Speaking of random bugs...

I haven't confirmed it yet, but have heard that you can now get the 25% charge from an ubersaw hit while your ubercharge is active. Apparently it used to work this way, valve 'fixed' it, but it has now resurfaced. Really should see if it works...

I can confirm that it works. Also, imagine if you retained your invincibility/kritz effect while holding the Ubersaw...build an Uber and go to town.

You can kind of do that with two medics. You uber one, while the other charges up with the uber saw. Then the other one ubers you while you hack away at people.

Yay uber chaining is back. It's nasty good on arena where there's no running away. There's plenty of ways now of separating em anyway so it's not as big a deal as it was. If you ever play in massive games on tight maps with instant respawns though, it's totally broken. There's just too many things to swing at.

Instant respawn is great. Just as long as you're already not playing TF2 the way it's supposed to be played (melee only, 1v1 duels, 2fort).

I can very much absolutely confirm that the ubersaw charges uber while uber is active. As I managed to uber someone, ubersaw a heavy 6 times and switch back, still with 60% left. Longest uber I've seen, that's for sure.

Stay while I recount the crazy TF2 kill I managed yesterday

Postby TheOrangeDoor » Mon Aug 10, 2009 5:37 am UTC

Based on today's alt text, this is a place to post any cool TF2 kills, or fun stories.

For example: I was on Badwater Basin last night for a while. At first I wasn't doing much for my team, but by the end of the night my score had soared to the top of the board. I was rockin' the pyro (insert W+M1 insult here) and there was a medic who I kept teaming up with. In a few hours he had Ubered me at least 15 times and we'd destroyed an inane amount of people/buildings. It was a rare good night for me, and it reminded me why I love the game so much.

Also, feel free to post cool stuff like this.

During a round of sudden death I was the last person on my team, I Crit rocket inside of a small hallway filled with 5 enemy inside and totally won the game.

Due to today's comic's Alt-text, we must guess what the least interesting man in the world got for a TF2 kill.

Probably air-blasted a A medic away from his ubercharged Demoman, who ran into a sentry nest.

My favorite kill was on the third gravelpit as a defender. There's that split level fort in front of the capture zone and people like to drop down ubered from the top. I planted 8 stickies on the front of the ledge just below view and an uber'd heavy/medic comes in. I let the heavy drop and then fire the monk into space. He goes straight up so high it pulls uber off the heavy who dies from 5 level 3 sentries immediately. Medic died from impact.

I won gravelpit in overtime once by airblasting the two defenders off of C.

however, I make a lot more impressive plays with medic, by popping uber and then using it to move three people forward at once.

My favorite kill is when I scout-taunted someone to death for the first time (with the Sandman). I captured the intel, turned around and taunted; shortly before the taunt finished, an enemy scout ran up, grabbed our intel...and got beaned with my taunt. It may have been the unlikeliest kill ever: I killed a fast-moving opponent who I didn't see coming with an extremely inaccurate attack without even realizing it was an attack (until then, I had no idea the sandman-taunt could kill people).

More recently, I backstabbed a Soldier and the two medics healing him (in reverse order), one of which had an uber...during sudden death. They were not happy.

Also, behold some truly epic griefing.

So many fun Gravelpit C stories.

I once defended it by FaNing a couple people off, killing them both and getting Fall Classic.

I killed five heavies with the pyro as they stormed C. They were going up the ramps in a line so it was fairly easy.
The first two were injured, the second one took too long to realise where he was being attacked from and the final two were killed because I got a critcal hit on both of them and ran off while getting them with the shotgun.
We lost, but, it still felt awesome.

On dustbowl stage 3 I was a red soldier (after being auto balanced TWICE in 5 mins) and was playing badly but after slowly racking up kills I suddenly found myself behind enemy lines. All 3 of the enemies' medics were in one place so I rocketed them a couple of times them, killing two, turned around and used my other two rockets to kill the soldier and demo they and been healing before chasing after the final wounded medic and killing him with a crit shotgun blast. On my way back I had just managed to reload 2 rockets which I used to kill a heavy who was on fire before retreating to base feeling very proud of myself.

Needless to say something like this isn't going to happen to me again for a LOOONG time :)

I love TF2. Unfortunately, it doesn't run at all on my shitty laptop, so I only get to play it occasionally when I go over to a friend's house. I mostly play medic, but have been branching out into Spy and Engie lately.

Spy's a whole bucket and a half of fun, and the rush I get from infiltrating the enemy, stabbing 5 of them in the back, and escaping to do it all over again cannot be beat. Unfortunately, I'm really quite terrible at Spy. The main problem I have is when someone knows that I'm a spy, either when they spycheck, or when I bump into them. I normally panic and start flailing around with the knife, with predictable results. Should I be running away? Using the revolver/Ambassador?

I had a lot of fun with Engineer on a recent game, I decided that I was gonna try it, despite having 4 other Engies already on the 8-man team. This is on Badwater, by the way. The 5 of us, on defense, rush to the bunker by the first point. We manage to get up, I think, 2 level-3 sentries, a level-3 dispenser, and 4 teleporters before the match even starts. The other team was doing really horribly, it seemed, and didn't even move the cart all the way onto the point. At the end of the match, it was sitting just in front.

The dead-ringer helps a lot with that. I don't use the cloak a lot anyway (the very act of cloaking/uncloaking usually announces to the world that you're a spy), so it's really useful for surviving spy-checks. if they believe you're dead they stop being paranoid. if they are still hunting, you run to some ammo, uncloak and let them "kill" you again.

So I'm a big fan of using the Cloak & Dagger because it allows you to hide and wait. Patience is a virtue sometimes. As for using the revolver/ Ambassador... those guns are most useful against snipers. This is because snipers typically are either wearing the razorback or are trying to keep their backs to a wall. But since they are scoped in, it only takes 2 or 3 shots (depending on the weapon) to kill them.

If they notice you are a spy, run away, and shoot at them, or cloak and make them think you are going in a direction you are not. Then stab them.

The muskets will probobly take the place of the rocket launcher. They'd better have high attack though, because from what I can remember they need to be reloaded after every shot.
The sword will replace the shovel most likely, but what about the shotgun?

uh, why wouldn't the musket replace the shotgun? Remember not everything needs to be replaced, either.

Also I'm going to take a random guess at a mortar of some sort replacing the rocket launcher.

I reckon they could update the last 3 classes at once, really. That robot could easily be an engi thing, if they gave it the disadvantage of terrible pathing.
