Well. Oblivium obviously show that the menus are designed for a user without mouse. So you have to navigate trough a endless and tireless series of windows. I have to admit that also has been enhanced, so more stuff can be see from a single window ( Dumbed down is not always a bad thing ).

Bioshock is another game dumbed down for consoles. Where to change the weapons layout you need to pause the game. That show that console players can't fight AND reconfigure a toolbar. So interfaces and games that work on consoles has to be designed so can be played withouth right click, without drag and drop, etc.
Try to use Windows XP with only enter, up,down, left, right for complex task.

If you disagree, lets create a tread on "Religious wars" about the topic.

Occasionally my hand cramps up, so I do end up manipulating windows with only my keyboard. What I learned is: it's a lot easier than it looks, and it's damn impressive to sit down at someone's computer screen and start banging away without touching the mouse, making things happen. Even mundane tasks look like magic when you know how to use a keyboard well.

Have you actually managed to chop someone in half? I haven't been able to do it. I've neck stabbed people, and i cut off a pirate's hands once, which was fucking cool. How do you behead/betorso people?

You need to do a sideways power attack (so your blade skill has to be at least 50). It happens by chance and the chance is calculated by your blade skill, I think you strength is also a factor, and the chance you set up when you first used the mod. The change is re-calculated every time your opponent's health is halved (so 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 total health etc...). To behead someone, do a sideways power attack aimed at their neck. To betorso, aim at their waist.

It's all explained in the readme file that came with the mod :)

I got it to work, I often go on guard killing sprees. awesome, I cut the guard's head off, and then there were like 10 other guards.
Or something to that effect. Hell, I don't know.

Well that answers that question. My blade skill is in the low forties. I'll be cutting off all kinds of heads when i get it up.

Okay, so let's talk mods.

- I think we've all learned that it's almost pointless to play without Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul. It's effects on the game are many, varied, and awesome.
- Our new gore mod, Deadly Reflexes.
- I like to play as a Mystic Elf, so i use Ren's Beauty Pack.
- I do this solely because i have a nudity mod (i'll update this when i get home with the name of the mod).
- I play with the xParasite vampire mod. I always play as a vampire, but don't like the way they normally work. In this mod they get more powerful by feeding more and being a vampire longer, not by starving themselves. It also makes your vampire not look fugly.
- I've got all of the Real Swords mods. They're not really well balanced, but they introduce some pretty cool looking weapons.
- I also have Shields of Antiquity, although i think it's broken. May have to re-download.
- I got Arcane Velocity because i felt that "on target" spells should travel faster.
- Skyrim Khajiit, which gives you a playable race that is basically a khajiit that looks like a siberian tiger. My girlfriend likes it.
- I have a mod that introduces four "zombie" playable races (human, elf, khajiit, and orc). They have crazy high strength, pretty mediocre everything else. They're weak to fire. Also the undead will like you. If you go to a cave full of zombies they won't attack you. Also, you have to eat brains once a day. You get them by killing people and casting "harvest brain" on their corpse. Pretty rad. I'll update this with the name when i get home.

Any mods that y'all recommend?

I like Akaviri Imports, which adds a crazy amount of Japanese blades to the game. The balancing is tuned to the vanilla game, though, so if you use OOO Akaviri Imports is pretty useless.

Elven Map Redux is an awesome overhaul to the lacking map interface.

Speaking of interfaces, I use Darnified UI to change the UI from the shittastic console interface into something much more usable.

Other than those, I don't really use any mods. I'm sure there's one or two more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. I'll update the post when I get home tonight.

Thievery in Imperial City. Granted, it's fairly linear, but it's rare enough to find a mod with actual voice acting. Rarer still that it's actually not that bad.

Also, gives you a fence even if you don't want to join the Thieves' Guild.

BTMod. Fixes the menus.

I had BTMod for a while. I tried Darnified UI and I found I like it much better. It does a lot of what BT does and more. I highly suggest trying it out.

Yup, and I just noticed that there was extra dialog for existing characters and applaud that the creator went to the effort of patching together other things that character said to make it actually sound like her, though some words would change the tone of voice, but hey, that was still more effort than 99%+ of mods will do.

Yeah, that part had a couple of .. bad sections, but given that it was a slice job on the audio, it's pretty nice.

Hence - will check that one out.

I've got so many mods it's starting to get a little silly, but the game's still fun!!

These can be seperated into 3 main catagories: Aesthetic, Playable, and Subtle
Aesthetic
Gorier blood - slowly training me to handle real-life blood
Dark Green Glass Armour - because light green glass armour looks silly
It's A Wig! - adds cool hair to the game, but takes the helmet slot
Natural Weather - also includes natural water and natural habbitat. Makes the game look better
Seph's animations - Motion Captures animations. Completely pointless, but it can be fun to walk up to a guard and tell him to dance
Unique Landscapes - adds unique landscapes to Cyrodiil. Majorly beautiful stuff.
Female Armour Pack - makes the female armour look more feminine, although a fair few girls have pointed out that any sane woman wouldn't go into battle with her chest showing
Classy Leather Dress - I like it
Goddess Store - rather revealing clothes for Exnem's body. Some clothes are alright, but others are clearly made by 14 year old boys.
Better Necklaces - can't remember who made these, but it replaces the textures for the necklaces to make them look a lot better. There's also one that does the same to the rings by the same guy
Loading Screens - can't remember who made these either, but they look a lot better than the standard loading screens, and they're now topical to your location
BTmod - used to make the menus easier to read, but I haven't really looked into any of the other that offer the same service

Playable
Deadly Reflexes - I think most people have already figured this one out
Lost Spires - very in-depth mod. No voice acting, but huge dungeons. I can't fix magical items yet so my bow tends to be around 21% when I finally finish the cave
The official mods - Horse Armour really isn't worth the money, but Frostcrag Spire, Deepscorn Hollow and Spell Tomes just add that certain something
Modular Oblivion Enhanced - awesome compilation of mods! Has things like hunger effects, a vampire guild, lycanthropy, lichcraft, more levels, disabled compass, disabled fast travel, guard bribing, unlocked dremora armour, unlocked palace guard armour, and so much more. Also since it's modular, you can pick and chose to add the bits you want
Quest Award Leveler - upgrades certain items and spells as you level up. It's rather handy to get a more powerful Chilrend or Rockshatter as you're playing, but many's a time I've leveled up and realised my destruction skill isn't powerful enough to cast Finger Of The Mountain anymore
Xereau's Better Birthsigns - gives you a few spells when you chose your birthsign. Very handy
Midas Spells - they just look fun

Subtle
Cliff's Better Letters - changes the boring handbills and generic letters. In it you can find cool recipies, discover love triangles etc. Very subtle mod, but adds a small degree of realism
Better Gold - changes the look of the coins. Again, subtle but gnarly

And those are all the mods I can think of. I'd recommend each and every one of them

Edited for spellings

As cool as Finger of the Mountain is, it's actually very inefficient. You don't get the same amount damage for the magic energy you use that you would from a custom-made spell. And the visual effect is always the same, anyway.

I just give Earana the book and steal it back so I don't have to buy my first shock-damage spell.

Well, when I play games, I just usually dick around, play quests just to the point where I can get cool stuff.

I loved Morrowind for that, and for the fact that when I was bored of just dicking around in Morrowind, there was the Construction Set to dick around in.

It helps that I invented a new game in Oblivion; Corpse Golf. What you do is go into a house with a Display Case, kill someone, and use Fireballs of different areas to lob the corpse into the Display Case. Close the Display Case and hear the rattling.

I had the Captain of the Gaurds in one case and Lucien Lachance in another. Work on your precision with it, you can get corpse sculptures. We laughed as one of my fireballs had my maid and a guard in a position that made the guard look like he was raping her. Don't worry, it wasn't actually rape, they were both dead.

From Corpse Golf comes corpse golf light, where you use a Skull and try to get it into a barrel with different selections of spells.

Since I don't own the game, and just play it over friend's houses, I haven't the chance to dick around with it much more than that.

Inter-corpse rape is no laughing matter. This is a serious crime that needs to be investigated. To the rest of the city guard!

In Fable, I've owned all of Oakvale ((Takes a lot of Gold and a lot of killing)). In Grand theft Auto; San Andreas, I had my Pilot's License before leaving the first Island. In Morrowind, I had a house, used the no clipping cheat, and set up a huge scene of items, by making the floor entirely covered with gold coins and stacking items for the Float Effect, in game, of course. Out of game I was working on a ring that would Mark your location, and bring you to a pocket plane, before my disk got screwed up and I could no longer play. In Balder's Gate II, I really didn't get into the Main quest, and when I actually made it to the Underdark, I killed everything, I was that powerful by that point that I didn't need my party. In Neverwinter nights... well the game actually turned out to be pretty linear, so I really couldn't dick around that much. Didn't stop me from creating a Module, giving my characters my own weapons, saving them, and loading them in the game. So, you can see what you can do while dicking around in a game.

You forgot Qarl's Texture Pack.
Indeed I did - I feel so silly, that makes Oblivion look much better (but I haven't dared try his bigger ones)

Can't forget a levelling mod like AF, or whichever is the one you prefer.
Never tried those

Better Book Jackets (or whatever it's called). Gives every single book a unique cover.
Didn't I put that?
*checks*
Damnit! Yup, that one's pretty essential too

And Hench, I'm kinda looking at Darnified UI but I already have a better map and there doesn't seem to be the option to simple not change the map. I really can't remember where I got it from or where the files are either. I'm hunting for one though, because that does look like a pretty sweet mod

Darnified UI doesn't change the map itself; and if you use the .omod and the Oblivion Mod Manager, you can choose which UI bits to change or leave alone. Elven Map Redux is what I suggested to change the map itself.

Forgot another playable mod, PJ's Spell Compendium. The most awesome assortment of spells ever conceived! Comes in three flavors too! http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Pjs_Spell_Compendium;65495

One mod that I think is a must have is called Adventurer's Gear. It adds a portable tent, bedroll, campfire, sack, and tripwires. The normal ESP adds them to some store, but the alternate one (packed with the regular one) adds them to your inventory at the beginning of the game. Very useful for those who don't quick travel.

I use a satellite-image map and Book Jackets. This is especially important because I horde books like crazy. On my old character, I used the house in Bruma, and I basically used the whole basement as a library.

The kitchen table was a huge pile of beer bottles, and the vestibule between the front hall and the kitchen was the pile of loot, all dumped together Roman style.

Damn, I really need to finish my Cheap Skingrad House mod so my character has a house. Right now he hordes everything in the Chest of Infinite Holding in the Skingrad mages guild, and it's so full that there's a three-second lag when you open it.

I think there's a book for every skill in the game. Gives a +1 to that skill when you read it...which, given the leveling system, means you can accidentally level yourself while perusing a library.

So I installed the game last night, picked up a few mods, and have started playing. I'm on my way to Kvatch right now. I'm in the town you pass through on the way there spending the night. I found a race that while looking a bit ugly, seems to have given me some nice benefits. Like water breathing. Don't know why it has it, but I'm not going to argue. I also did a nice bit of plundering on my way through, hitting up a couple of caves, and some old forts.
