No More Heroes

Postby Endless Mike » Thu Jan 24, 2008 8:33 pm UTC

Anyone else pick this up? It's produced and directed by Suda 51, who produced and directed Killer 7 for the GameCube and PS2. I've gotten through two assassinations so far (of 10), and it's been really fun. You play as Travis Touchdown, a down on his luck nerd who decides to take a job killing someone with his ebay-purchased lightsaber (and he drives an X-Wing shaped motorcycle). The Wii controls are used well without overusing them. Attacking is a simple matter of hitting A or B with the remote position determining if it's a high or low attack. After an enemy's life is gone, an arrow flashes on screen that you follow with the remote to do a finishing attack, that usually involves decapitating the enemy with spurts of blood. The graphic style is really good, although the world is very...sparse. I recommend it!

It's out? Cool. I may get it. There's only one thing I see could be a problem. The noncombat missions, like mowing a lawn. Do they get boring?

I've only done coconut collecting so far and it's not the most fun thing in the world, but isn't bad.

so far it seems like you alternate between mundane crap missions and actually killing people. for what its worth, actually killing people makes the mundane shit worth it.

The mundane crap missions aren't that bad. A lot of them are fun, especially the kitty one!
And anyways, you only have to do each one once

Do you get to kill within anything that's not that sword? And are said weapons viable long-term substitutes for said sword?

No, the sword is your only weapon. You can get different, slightly more powerful swords, but there's no guns or anything.

Also, you only have to do the side missions once if you aren't trying to get everything as soon as it's unlocked. After paying for a ranked fight, you usually end up with about 2/3rds of what you need for the next one, which the side missions will take care of. Buying upgrades or new clothes will probably require you to repeat something.

But there's the ghey noncombat side missions, and there's the awesome ones where you beat down 100 guys in 3 minutes. The noncombat ones you only have to do once

Why does everyone seem to forget the one super-cool non-combat side-mission where you jump the Schpeltiger right off a cliff.

Because we haven't gotten to it yet...?

And playing on sweet. That helps a lot, too.

They're not worth the effort, anyway.

So, I went through the first couple of missions.. the starter thing, and the first two assassination gigs of killing some Pizza CEO dude or just killing everyone without dying or whatever.

Goddamn awesome game. For serious.

I rather enjoy how you have a kitty. A kitty! A super-cycle, a lightsaber, and a goddamn kitty! And she's a kitty! Yes she is!

Was I missing something? Everyone is saying the assassin missions were cool, but the fighting felt really repetitive and boring to me.

I may feel this way around mission 9 or what-have-you, but so far I'm enjoying the style of the game greatly, and combat is, for me at least, hitting that exact right point where it's difficult enough that I feel good for accomplishing room-cleansing, but easy enough that room-cleansing can be successfully done on the first go through.

But so far it's the style of the game that's got me hooked on it.
