Eh, having a lot of curvy lasers is easier to dodge than only having a few, the pattern is so easy to see on that card but when it's just one or two lasers blindsiding you on a weird angle it is much harder not to screw up.

I was playing around in Double Spoiler and I just pulled off the MOST RIDICULOUS DODGE EVER by pure accident. I thought I fucked myself but then I thought "What the heck, I'll try sneak out of this somehow" and I DID IT. I had to play conservatively for the rest of the card because I was laughing so hard and I wanted to pass it and save the replay.

Aaaand... while typing up this post I found that the replays were in a different spot and while using the fix on the touhou wikia to move it into the th12.5 folder I screwed up and accidentally saved over the replay it seems... -_-

Edit: I decided to download MoF finally since I was downloading DS anyway. I beat normal mode first try... so yeah... >.>; -- UFO extra mode is ridiculously difficult.

What stage were you on? I'm curious now...
Anyway, I'm on about, what, stage 8 or so in Double Spoiler? I'm hooked...

EDIT: Stage nine wants me dead.

I've only played through 6 atm, I play just on and off to be honest. DS is much easier to control than StB and I'm glad.

Edit: Oh wait what stage did I do the ridiculous dodge on? I was playing around on stage 3-1 and I moved up into the field of red bullets that move towards you and took a photo of her... then the bullets all started moving down and made these big cascading walls and I coudn't go backwards because it was blocked off and somehow I managed to pass through the rings of red bullets despite there being no visible space between them and them moving pretty darn fast.

...

I just spent a full hour on the train trying to beat 9-7. I swear it's fucking impossible.

Well, maybe not impossible, but impossible to do consistantly even if I was actually good at Touhou. It seems almost entirely luck based.

Edit:
I just beat it then, luck of the draw that I didn't get walled.

# of tries...... 598

Edit2: Wait, maybe not 598 tries, I'm not sure that number is the number of tries or not...

Edit3: Okay it's 598 shots. If I guess 1.5 to 2 shots per try then thats 300-400 attempts.

So... how about the music?

Personally, my favorites are Cosmic Mind and Voyage 1970.

I'd like to say I have a favourite, but the way I listen to music is that I just listen to a few songs constantly and then switch to something else... so it's all about variety... 90% of the Touhou songs are my favourite songs, at some point in time.

Edit:
Right now I'm listening to these remixes like... constantly. (I think these links are right, I can't check to make sure because my net is capped at the moment).

Eventually I'll switch it out for something entirely different and then listen to that constantly.

I'm not a huge Touhou fan, but I just noticed that there is now a Touhou Starcraft 2 UMS map.

Check it out on google. I think you Touhou fans will like it. Also, I like it because it does a good job at showcasing what the SC2 Galaxy Editor can do.

HOLY CRAP is all I can say. SC2 editor is amazing. Now if they can get the actual pictures to show up for the StB bit that would be ridiculous.

It seems slightly unpolished, like there seems to be no powerups, the player character seems a little hard to see, and the music could have been better (Candid Friend <3) but holy crap, that's awesome. And then it goes into shoot the bullet mode, which I will cry at.

12.8 is difficult - possibly just an issue learning the new mechanic.

So far, I've found that the hardest part to learn in 12.8 is just having 4 buttons of controls instead of the usual 3, plus having the automatic shot button on C or Ctrl instead.

The extra mechanic means one extra timing you need to learn to get cards down pat. Usually you need timing and maneuvreing, now you need an extra set of timing for the ice and it's another thing to screw up.

I can't, for the life of me, pass the three fairy's card where they move through the green orbs and turn them anti-ice.

So I just unlocked the Extra Stage on 12.8 earlier today, and does anybody have any tips for those waves of green bullets at the start and right before the midboss? I know they're roughly streaming with random variation in each one's angle, but it seems like no matter what I do, they form near-solid walls sooner or later, and it's rather random whether the next wall occurs before I recharge my ice power from freezing the last wall.

[Edit: Never mind, I figured it out. It's another "dispatch the fairies BEFORE they have a chance to fill the screen with bullet-spam" section.]

Usually I can beat normal without continues (in fact, in every main touhou game I always quit, I never continue) but I am so ridiculously far away from being anywhere near not-continuing on th12.8, seriously...

Maybe these patterns are just ones I particularly suck at. Or maybe the mechanic is one that I particularly suck at. But personally, I find this game is fucking harder than StB or DS.

Posting in this thread to notify all of you that it's Intergalactic Shmuppreciation Month! Seriously, not a made up thing.

In honor of it, go play some Touhou (and also hopefully something better, too).

For anyone interested, because Reitaisai 8 was cancelled because of the EQ/Tsunami apparently a lot of the artists are releasing their work online for free and just asking that people donate to the relief effort.

Where to start: first discovered Touhou a couple years ago and thought it was stupid. A friend finally convinced me to try it about a year and a half ago--been addicted ever since. I began with EoSD, then a couple of my buds and I set up a VPN and played 12.3 and SWR for a while. Most recently I've been playing Imperishable Night; that, and waiting expectantly for Ten Desires. :P

I don't have any shame about playing easy modo occasionally; I'm horrendous at the bullet games, and mediocre at the fighting ones. I just enjoy playing the games and interacting with the fandom; I'll get better with time I guess...

I'm the worst at fighters but I love then. Hisoutensoku, Blazblue, Ougon Musou Kyoku, I play em all and I'm terrible at them all. I'm alright at Touhou I can beat all of them on normal and MoF very easily on hard and IN just on hard. Though not consistantly...

If they were easy, I wouldn't play them nearly as much. I've still yet to actually complete any of the shooters; that's how terrible my skills are. I've come pretty close, but by then I usually have 0-1 lives left and I get caught by surprise by the final boss' spell cards. That, or I get too cocky during the earlier levels and accidentally hit a projectile while greedily collecting power-ups.

Also, I've read that the demo of Ten Desires will be released sometime in early May. I'm disappointed, but at least it's still on the way.

Oh, Touhou :) I have played some of the shooters for a while and can relatively easily on Hard, and stand a fighting chance on most Lunatics, but I've more or less moved on to other similar games now... I still play 12.3 a bit (and poorly) but I'm not really into the fighting games (have you heard about the Soku Caster though? It's a lobby for the game with better netplay and some other very nice features).

Hamachi always seemed to work just fine with me and my friends. But this newfangled Soku thingamajig sounds interesting.

Also, just downloaded MegaMari, a MegaMan 2 clone with Marisa as the titular character. Plan to play it later today.

and I'm here again. this time to tell you all that 13.5 has been announced. It will be a fighting game with a whole new engine and a story involving the Buddhists and the Taoists.

To be released sometime next year.

Saw stuff about it on the en.touhouwiki.net, the sprites look totally different to the previous games. Less chibi.

I think the official artwork is going to be done by the same people who worked on the last three fighting games though. Either way, I'm looking forward to this, once it gets an English patch anyway.
