Re: I WAITED TILL 5 AM AND ITS HERE DIABLO 3
I know its fun to get excited but it looks to me like they are just announcing the release date for the next World of Warcraft expansion. The ice, the runes, and the apparent outline of a helm around those eyes all fit with the new death knight class.
Of course if you want to get all hyped up over the idea of Diablo 3 feel free, just don't feel too bad if you have to wait a while longer.

Cool.
Props to Blizzard for being able to make a candle look evil, even before you see it's sitting on a skull.
But, as for the actual game, I'll forget about it until it comes out in 5 years.
I lied. This is really exciting:
But... again, time to bury that for a couple of years
Props to Blizzard for being able to make a candle look evil, even before you see it's sitting on a skull.
But, as for the actual game, I'll forget about it until it comes out in 5 years.
I lied. This is really exciting:
Diablo III is powered by a new graphics engine that can display characters and hordes of monsters in lush, fully 3D environments. Powerful special-effects systems and Havok-powered physics allow the player to lay waste to the Hells' minions in spectacular ways.
Also, Diablo III builds on the random environments of the previous Diablo games by introducing a host of new ways to create random scripted events throughout the game. This creates a dense and exciting world alive with quests, NPCs, dynamic encounters, and viciously challenging new monsters and bosses. Diablo III's environments add a great deal of interactivity to the game, including destructible elements and environmental obstacles that can be turned against your enemies.
But... again, time to bury that for a couple of years

Re: I WAITED TILL 5 AM AND ITS HERE DIABLO 3
I'd been aware of that changing splash page with the frozen runes. I think by the end of it, it was a case of:
- it's ice and thawing: ice, blizzard, Blizzard Entertainment
- in an interesting pentagram, they added runes symbolising all of Blizzard's universes - WC, Dia, SC, and Vikings
- gradually emerging glowing eyes, probably from the Lich King and therefore WoW expansion pack
A week-long development like that definitely hinted at something big, and although I had an inkling a Diablo 3 announcement was on the cards, I didn't expect it to be that epic and have so much stuff on show when it went out.
My initial thoughts on what would be coming:
- Probably a definite release date for WoW: WotLK and SC2
- Outside chance: Starcraft MMO, Warcraft 4, Diablo 3?
Two of my mates are over in Paris for the Blizz WWI (or Blizzcon Europe essentially) and I'll give them a buzz to get their opinion on it. I also ordered one of the T-shirts from them, so w00!
Oh and they have the pro WoW EU raid guild Nihilum doing a live raid on Kil'jaedan, which I'm watching on the live stream video, pretty awesome.

A starcraft MMO probably wouldn't be announced until SC2 came out, or maybe its expansion.
I'd actually consider playing it; WoW was fun and SC is a good setting. My life for Aiur!

Re: I WAITED TILL 5 AM AND ITS HERE DIABLO 3
This will be the greatest time waster of all my years. I lost my life to Diablo II as a 8-9 year old, and I'm ready to lose it again at 15.
I can't wait to get my new Necromancer to 47
I remember my pride and joy in my Necromancer set was "insert that blacksmithguysnamefromdiablo1"'s Sword, I had it socketed twice, and it had two Perfect Emeralds in it. So much poison damage.
I had at least one of each class in the 40's, but my necromancer was my first, and my best. Of course it really helps when your dad, and step mom play wiht you too.
ALL HAIL BLIZZARD!

Seven years since LoD.
I never thought this day would come, but here it is. With this and SCII, on top of WoW, the world economy will surely collapse.

OH FUCK YES! ALL CAPS IS ONLY JUSTIFIABLE IN THIS CONTEXT!
I was about to make this thread after seeing the stuff on Gametrailers.
It looks so badass. 'Specially that witch doctor. That looks awesome. The Barbarian looks the same as in Diablo II. I really hope they bring necromancers, paladins and druids back. Mostly necromancers. I quote a commenter on GT "It's like an orgasm for my eyes".
This will be more epic than a team of Buckethead, Bruce Schneier, and Mr. T, all armed with BFGs fighting an army of X parasites led by Magus in Middle Earth would be.

Yeah, but think about what might have happened with necromancers. Think about all the new stuff they might have going for them. Maybe summoned skeletons are in the shape of the creature you summoned them out of. Maybe you can create a huge skeleton out of the bones of multiple monsters. There's just no way of telling yet. We need to know what happened to our old favorite, before we definitively switch to the new.

Well it's also an early look at a game that's still years away. There's lots of polishing left to do.
Now here's what i'm curious about. At the end of Diablo 2 we banished the prime evils back to hell. We also smashed the soulstones, their only link with earth. There basically should be no remaining means for the forces of good OR evil to come to earth now, right?

Also, so glad to see the witchdoctor. Too much europe in my fantasy lately. Totally going to be my main.

With diseases, curses (fear/confuse) and pets to summon I'm thinking the Witch Doctor might replace the necromancer. I'll probably roll a pally if they still have Zeal, or stuff like 1pt smiting is still viable.

I'm kind of hoping there won't be a lot of return classes. It isn't like Blizzard to just recycle characters*. To be honest i'm shocked the barbarian made a return. Some sort of sorcs making a come-back wouldn't surprise me, but i can't imagine amazons, pallys, and the rest returning as playable characters. I'd really rather Diablo III not just be Diablo II.
*I say this despite the fact that the Diablo franchise is their only RPG franchise, so it's really their only opportunity to repeat characters. That said, none of the playable characters from Diablo were playable again in Diablo II**, so my statement remains technically correct!
**Unless you count the sorceress as a reimagining of the sorceror. God knows she pretty much is.

From what I've gathered, Diablo was Blizzard's pre-WoW that they used to test their virtual crack technology before unveiling it to the masses.

Pallies and Sorcs are pretty damn standard classes for RPGs. The FAQ says that there will be 5 classes for D3 (with possibly more in expansion like with LoD) that is 1 less than Diablo 2 (non expansion)
Edit: Since there is a Witch doctor that only leaves space for 4 Return characters, so 2 (or 4 if they choose from expansion classes as well) will miss out on getting into D3 at the very least.

Re: I WAITED TILL 5 AM AND ITS HERE DIABLO 3
I just hope they throw in some features from games created by the old BNet people, like in Guild Wars where loot is assigned, and Hellgate having the context sensitive keys for things like healing, mana restore, and the like.
Those are some really nice features that I miss when I play Diablo II.
