If you could combine two(or more) games

Postby emceng » Wed Jul 02, 2008 8:12 pm UTC

What would they be and why?

What would I like to see?

Say, Chromehounds with CoD4. Maybe with some BF2142 thrown in.

I would really like to see a more persistent world environment for a FPS. When I absolutely kick ass, I want it to mean something. Sure I get points at the end of the match, but then you just move on to another map.

Which brings up another game to add in - Daggerfall. The huge number of dungeons was really cool - if the # of different battlefields could be similar to this...drool. You would be able to require objective type games for certain maps, etc. or 'home team' advantages if one side is more on the defensive. Almost like the conquer the galaxy mode in Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

Hmm, and really I wonder how much effort it would take? They could easily use their own game library to have a good set of maps ....

Dang, the more I think about this, the more I want to play the game that's in my head.

Another idea - more of a short game like XBL Arcade - would be to take the destructible world from Katamari Damancy, and use it as a playground as a dinosaur. I mean really, who doesn't want to play a T-Rex smashing a city(and as much as I enjoyed Rampage, it is not the same thing).
When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up. - CS Lewis

Portal + Super Mario 64 = Awesome platforming action with portals.

Chrono Trigger + Painkiller = Chrono Trigger as an fps with awesome guns.

N + Ninja Gaiden = N in 3D with awesome combat.

Metroid + Half Life 2 = Total win.

Left 4 Dead + Dead Space = Epic Co-op sci-fi shooter.

Contra + Hellgate: London = Fast paced, difficult Contra action in 3D with awesome guns and an adjustable camera.

Starcraft + Prototype = RTS with perfect controls in NYC with the factions being the military and the infected.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl + Street Fighter 2 = One-on-one Nintendo fighting extrrrravaganza.

Starcraft + Warcraft 3 = Starcraft with a world editor that doesn't suck.
The Orange Box + <Blizzard game here> = Portal and HL2 on Macs. (Headcrab zombies in TF2 would also be amusing.) (So would GLaDOS chattering happily as you trek through Ravensholm, shearing zombies in half with gravity-gun-propelled saw blades.)
Diablo I + Diablo II = Diablo III

Portal + Anything. Seriously. Even Big Rigs could be made fun with portals.

[edit] Actually, on that thought... Mario Kart + Portal. Just because it would be completely insane.

Ugh, but what if it had a heroes system? You must be careful. Some RTSs man was not meant to modify.

The Ravenholme Tourist Board promises to provide a safe family environment, and, if a safe environment cannot be found, to always provide helpful advice. For example, the shrieking masses of humans begging for death here will kill you. Try and avoid them.

Actually, Orange Box + Blizzard game is just as likely to spit out Starcraft: Ghost or something. Or Half-Life in which the Combine are ruled by my avatar.

Unreal Tournament + Portal.

Fast paced combat combined with Portals? When somebody dies, their Portals become null, and close, and anyone who happens to be passing through them dies, leaving the killer of the Portal creator with a doublekill? Come on!

Metal Gear Solid + Portal.

Fuck the sneaking! Just pop up behind them and remove them quietly! Put a Portal under a Gear's foot, so it collapses! COME ON!

Soul Caliber II + MMORPGs.

My god. I would play WoW if you could fight using a decent combat system. I have grown to LOATHE traditional MMORPG combat systems.

<jokeruining>Doubtful that would work. Racing games usually have checkpoints scattered about the track (they may or may not be visible), and you have to pass through them all before you can complete a lap, so that wouldn't work. (It's no different than say, driving in circles around the finish line.

Oh, and the portal gun kind of needs a flat surface to be on, and I don't think go karts falling through a portal in the floor will ever end well.</jokeruining>

System Shock 2 + Bioshock.

Well, Bioshock's engine and pretties but SS2's inventory and difficulty and RPG-ness. Their plots are basically identical

Neverwinter Nights 1 + Neverwinter Nights 2. It would either become a bug-ridden, featureless spawn of evil, or, as is my hope, it would become a bug-free, feature ladden, glorious online rpg.

I would add to this Morowind (even though this game is my pet hate) to make it first person and with a huge continuous game world as opposed to a discrete areas.

Also perhaps a few features from Warlords Battlecry. Not the combat system, as although this is great for a RTS it would not work at all in an RPG, but just a few of the ideas.

How about being able to turn the corpses of those you have killed into zombies instead of just summoning undead?

Perhaps you could kill an opponent or random passerby and use the sacrifice of blood to cast a really evil spell  . Or lots of people at once to cast an awesomely evil spell  ... Perhaps I had better calm down.

How about some of the illusion spells? It would be great to be able to create an entire army of illusionary warriors (it would be laggy of course but thats what sprites are for).

Or being able to change the weather? Or create barriers made of plants? Or use telepotation spells for hit and run attacks? Or...

Now if only there was a game with a good stealth system too...

Pokémon + Starcraft :D
Smash Brothers + Portal, because it isn't chaotic enough
F.E.A.R + Spore. Just to see what the result would be.

Advance Wars + Final Fantasy Tactics. "Modern" turn-based warfare with RPG elements and customization.
So basically, Front Mission on a much larger scale.

Lemmings? Halo? Portal? Manhunt? (sorry bad taste) Age of Empires? Monkey Island?

Planescape: Torment + WoW. Because a Planescape MMO would be awesome beyond the boundaries of reason.
Thief + Starcraft. Am I the only one who really liked the idea of Ghost as a silent assassin kind of game, with occasional huge gunfights? That seemed like it could be fun.
Bioshock + Fallout. As incestuous as that combination might be, I think both could use elements of the other. Bioshocks too easy and a bit too pure FPS for my tastes, while Fallout is pretty dated now. Basically, make Mass Effect with plasmids and I'd be happy.

I'd like to play a combo of The Crescent Hawks' Inception and Mechwarrior. It would have an open world, RPG feel to it, with sim-style mech combat.

Wasteland + Oblivion would be cool too.... /eg

If we're going for "everything would be better with portals",

Portal + Super Mario 64
Portal + FEAR
Portal + Deus Ex
Portal + Cooking Mama ("Mmmm. This cake is so delicious and moist")
Portal + Starcraft (any RTS would work, really, but Starcraft would be the best)
Portal + Civilization (Whole new strategies. Open up a portal right by their capital, but be warned, the counterattack will not be pleasant if you keep the portal open)
Portal + Duke Nukem
Portal + Sam and Max
Portal + Metroid Prime
Portal + Devil May Cry (extend your combos by jumping and attacking through portals)
Portal + Psychonauts (added bonus of making sense with the story. I mean, it could just be another psi-power)
Portal + Beyond Good and Evil
Portal + Myst
Portal + Space Invaders (I have no idea what this would be like, other than the fact that it would be FUCKING AWESOME)
Portal + Final Fantasy VI (added humor? Kefka becoming even more badass (not possible))
Portal + Soul Caliber 2
Portal +Super Mario World

And finally,

Portal + Portal, because that would make it Portal 2.

Crysis + Portal + Burnout + WoW.

What do you get? The best damn looking FPS ever, combined with Portals and physics puzzles, decent handling in vehicles, and a huge, addictive online community and world.

I removed the "pay for the rest of eternity" part of WoW too.
