Soul Caliber IV

Postby Babam » Wed Jul 30, 2008 2:45 pm UTC

Well it's out, and it rocks!
Well kinda.
Everything is fine and well tuned except the soul orb. It's fucking impossible to tell what color the fucker is, I'd much rather use a meter. And also due to the hacky slashy speed of SC, I usually just break their armor, and never get a chance to finish them when I finally get them into Soul Crush Mode.
Also vader is |-|/\><[]R$

EDIT
The Apprentice is a completely unbalanced piece of shit whore. He can go fuck himself, at least untill I unlock the fucker.

I really want to get it, but I'm afraid that it'll be a disappointment. SC3 was...meh.

I am having too much fun with this game, and I don't normally like fighters. I suck horribly at multiplayer, but at least I lose spectacularly and that's all that matters, right?

I have too much fun with character creation than can be healthy.

I've only played the game a little bit (at my friend's house, as I don't own it) but from what I can tell, it seems better than SC3, except for the Soul Crush thing. It just seems like they added it in to fix a nonexistent problem (that is, people blocking too much. However, that was never really a problem as every character has both high and low attacks, as well as unblockable attacks).
Also, I didn't really like the way that your character's abilities were directly related to the clothing they were wearing (as the maximum amount of points in each category that you could spend on special abilities was based on your armor)
Still, I thought the game was a lot more fun to play than SC3.

Yeah, only n00bs play special versus.

I've made two Leonidas Chars, one with Hildes style, and the other is Sophitias style.
There is so little armor to break.

Any one want to play?

Yeah, the PS3 controller is better for fighting games, but I have an Xbox.

GT: Wolfram42

Well, I finally decided to take a chance and buy it. It was tax free and I was already spending hundreds of dollars at Best Buy anyway. It pretty much makes up for SC3. They fixed the ridiculous throwing system, made combat feel satisfying and fluid, and addressed some of the problems with the characters.

In SC2, I was awesome with Mitsurugi. His combonation of power and finesse was perfectly balanced. After mastering his style, I started training with Ivy. I got pretty good. In SC3, I was disappointed to find Mitsurugi changed. He felt clunkier and I just couldn't stand it. I switched to Siegfried. I've been playing as Siegfried mainly ever since. While Siegfried is still my main, I actually like Mitsurugi in SC4. I might pick him back up. Right now I'm sticking with Siegfried. I tried out Ivy again, and I'm really impressed. I'm training with her now.

So, favorite character(s)?

Vader, Kroenen(Custom, talim style, guess the referance) Seigfried, and Cervantes. I rock at stance dancing with Sig.

A proper fighting stick is better than either.

So I got one along with the 360 version.

Now SSF2T:HDR needs to hurry up and come out.

This game is ridiculously fun. I prefer Tira, Nightmare, or Amy. I have a goofy custom character that uses Tira's style.

This game is fun, minus the online. I can't speak for the PSN community, but most of the people I've fought on Live just suck. I main Raphael. I just went up against a Nightmare...and not to brag, handed his ass to him. And I just hear "Fuckin combos. Over and over and over. Fuckin Jesus. Think they're hot shit because they can tap Y and X."

Err.....seriously? Don't fighting games tend to center themselves around combos? -_-

Well, I can only speak to the SCIII experience, but character creation was a bit cumbersome in that one. Sounds like it's much better in SCIV. Am I the only one who thinks Setsuka-SCIII is overpowered? Maybe I just suck.

Well, I know I suck, but I was kind of assuming I wouldn't have to fight her seven times on easy mode (Astaroth record. . .).

Also, as I can't really look into it myself, are there any new (and interesting) characters besides the Star Wars Juiciness?

Was his voice about an octave and a half higher than anybody who's been through puberty?

That's LIVE for ya.

I once went on LIVE to play some online destruction derby on GRID. I find a server that loops it, because there are very few that play DD constantly, and when people gather to one, it kicks off.

Anyway, we played for a while, and then these two asshole with voices higher than a mouse on helium join, and complain when we all choose DD again. BUT KEEP PLAYING.

End of mini rant, don't wanna cloud the thread further.

I like SCIV, played it on a mates PS3 with him. Vader's cool.

I have to say I preferred SC3 character creation, if only for the fact they had the extra weapon styles (like monkey style pole and blade shoes.)

However so far i think I'm competant with...
..no-one, I need lots of practice :(

Also Critical finishes are so awesome if only they were less rare.

Yeah, hopefully they release new styles with DLC.
I'm good with Yoshimitsu, Talim, Amy, Rapheal, Vader, Aprentice, Seigfried, Cassandra,Sophitia,Kilik, and Yun Seong.
My friend has all of Yoshimitu's moves memorized and can one hit kill in 4 different ways on command, along with healing him self. Such hax.

I have yet to play it myself, but I will eventually get my hands on it and begin crushing my friends with the greatest of ease while they cuss me out.

but does anyone seem to notice the unusual pause between the customary announcement of the title along with its respective version in the title screen?
you know....SOUL CALIBUR!1!!1

...

...

FOUR!!

They did it with every version, but it seems ridiculously long in the trailers I have seen.

Its even become sort of an in-joke with some of my friends. Suddenly yelling "FOUR" sort of like its a coup de grace to a righteous shouting match.

Soul Calibur IV is all sorts of fun, but I must say, I was really disappointed with my favorite character style, Voldo. He seems to stick himself into fighting backwards a lot more than he used to (and stay there.) And... whether it's my suck or not, I just can't get him to crazy combo and flow like he used too.

On the other hand, Cassandra, Hilde, and Sigfried are my new loves. Seong Mi-Na too.

I just bought this game tonight for the PS3, and I gotta say. Pretty fun. Vader's a bit too slow for my tastes, but I always did like the fast hitting characters. My favorites are (in order of proficiency) Kilik, Cervantes, Talim, Amy, and Zasalamel. I love Kilik because after you figure out his moves you can keep anyone at a distance relatively easily. Cervantes is just rediculous though, "Look at me! I'm a teleporting undead pirate!"

Yeah, Cervantes is the bread and butter of players who want to beat people up without learning a bunch of moves. I haven't played anything after SC2 - did they finally balance Raphael's Y->->-> ->YYY attack?

Shhh, you know how many fights I won just doing that over and over? If a person doesn't know how to guard impact, you're practically unbeatable!

I miss SC2's "everything is unblockable" ashtaroth. That guy was annoying as hell. Perhaps not the most complex or well balanced character but if you weren't ready for that style of play, you were done in dramatic fashion.

I wasn't even aware they made more SCs after #2, that I played on the GCN. Maybe I'll have to rent a console - SC2 was fun.

I always liked Raphael and Link. Link, especially, because he had so many damned cheesy ring out moves. Good that Astaroth is still in the series; he seriously had the most brutal "throws" in SC2, and his second costume (the hooded, purple-skinned variety) was just all sorts of win.

They nerfed him somewhat in terms of messing around the required inputs and reducing him to one preparation. But the B B B / B B B -> B was always balanced, you could either G G G! to gain priority over the former or combo break/sidestep the latter thanks to the brief immobility phase of that chain.

Astaroth has been made reasonable in the latest Soul Calibre, and Raphael's not been so much nerfed as had his style rewritten. See, used to be Raphael was this extravagant, playful sort of fighter. Since becoming a proper vampire (and really embracing it in IV), his fighting style has become brutal, efficient, and fast, with a few echoes of his former elegance left. For those who miss the old style of Raphael, Amy shoots past the old him into the other side of his fighting style, since elegance and high grace are her only options for keeping up with the more mature fighters.

I've probably spent most of my time doing Create-A-Soul stuff, I kind of want to get the downloadable Create-A-Soul pieces but I have not got around to getting them, I made a few originals but all my favourites are recreations of Luminous Arc characters.

I'm not sure who my favourite fighter is, and I have not put very much practice into the game at all, so I probably suck in comparison to most decent players. I usually play as a CAS Zasalamel/Nightmare or Kamikirimusi.
