Dead Rising

Postby Umlaut » Mon Sep 18, 2006 11:55 pm UTC

This is possibly the most pure form of violent fun I've ever experienced.

I spent two hours running over zombies with cars. Seriously. Two hours.

When you say two hours, are you being serious about actually spending two hours doing such a thing?

I'm actually considering renting a 360 just to play this game. Does it have two player co-op? I get the feeling that playing it with my girlfriend would be better than sex.

As far as i can see it's only one player. That's the only thing wrong with it. I plan to buy it then steal my little brother's x360 to play for days on end.

Yeah. Two hours.

Unfortunately it is only one player, but I can also watch my roommate play for a a long time without it being boring.

a few achievments (one of which is 'Zombie Genocider', kill 53,594 zombies in one play through) combined will unlock a full mega man outfit.. boots, tights, and the real mega buster (its uber powerful)

Genocider is best achieved by driving into the tunnels, to another vehicle, switching vehicles, go to another, switch, drive out, switch, drive in, rinse, repeat.. still takes quite a few hours!

when you level up sufficiently you get cool hand to hand movies like disembowel.. you can set a frying pan on the stove, then use it to burn zombie faces.. scythe to pull their heads off.. so many ways to kill, I will not even attempt to go into..

the story is interesting, and the fact that there's always side missions popping up and doing everything in one play through is essentially impossible, its nicely frantic.

but even with no story.. how could a giant sandbox-esque zombie killing NOT be awsome?

if only it had raptors.. or you WERE a raptor.

or..

ZOMBIE RAPTORS!!

I'm up to 35,000 zombies run over. Me and my posse played through last night while playing the ZOMBIES!!! board game simotaneously. Mwahahahahhaa. We also listened to Rob Zombie in the background. (That one was on purpose.)

I believe it's the best title on the 360 so far.

Even so, I didn't manage to play it for too long. It was more fun to watch my roommate play than it was for me to get frustrated at forgetting to save.

*cries* I was level 8 before I finished the first part of the first case because of save issues.

(Save status is evil. DON'T SAVE STATUS! Unless you want to start over.)

Alright, I'm a member of the xkcd forums.

Long time reader, first time poster. It is true that Dead Rising is awesome. I'm still working up the time/balls/buddies to invest 14 hours in getting the 7 day survivor achievement...

Hopefully I will have Witty Remarks to make on days that are not this one.

This old thread needed bumping. I played and its a fairly decent game. I have a problem with finding my favorite weapons. (hunting knives, lead pipes)
Or something to that effect. Hell, I don't know.

Then you're just picking the wrong favorite weapons. KATANA AND ELECTRIC GUITAR FTW! Actually, hunting knives are good too, but you can easily get those (and the far less awesome pistols) out of trash cans.

My friend spent a few hours getting through all the hard parts of the game, and when he finally made it to the heliport to be picked up, it was revealed he was supposed to talk to some lady at 10 am. he saved at 11 am. :x

That's gotta suck. I really would like to pick up a copy of this game, but I just sent in my 360 for repairs... :(

I don't really do the "Quest" part of the game... I just go around slaughtering zombies.

It's only for the xbox, right? It looks awesome, but I don't plan on getting one of those... Like, ever.
I'm a wizard. We know these things.

In war, one should seek to take and hold the high ground. From there, the enemy's movements are clearly visible, and he will struggle just to reach you, let alone fight you. High orbit is the highest ground there is.

I will post later with the "ZomKilChal". A sort of competition between my friends. It mostly involves most zombie kills in a given time with a given state from which to load, with different restrictions for different categories. It adds the feel of multiplayer, somewhat.

The game gets really easy when you realize you can find a katana or two. I may post in "Which game has made you utter the most profanity?" thread because I constantly yell, "You're mine bitch!"
Or something to that effect. Hell, I don't know.

The quest part pisses me off. It's ridiculous that you have to adhere so closely to the schedule. It kind of ruins the whole "do whatever you want" feel it has going for it.

The zombie killing is awesome though. Good times.

I was level 15 before I did the main quest. I can finish the first part and have like 8 hours to spare before the next part. (Kill the clown! Mini chainsaw= pwn sauce!)

I just did that crazy clown part for the first time yesterday. That was really, really disturbing when you kill him. I also got the real mega blaster finally :D

I can't belive no one has mentioned some of the weapons ingame (imo :D)

Firstly the infinate supply of battle axes is worth a mention in the antique shop. Like katanas but bigger and cooler.

Secondly umbrellas, definatly worth a mention, not good for killing but you can plough through almost anything.

Showerheads, most violent weapon ingame tbh. Everyone when they first get em thinks it will be just abit of crap you can throw, when you actually use it, its.... shocking to say the least. Any game where you can stick a showerhead in a zombies head and watching blood poor out the faucet is worthy of mention

And the silliest weapon ingame, the excavator (found in the DIY shop where you fight the vietnam vet). A petrol engine driven excavating tool, basically a large drill. Stick it through a zombie and carry around the rotavator, zombie spinning frantically (while still alive) nd club other zombies to death with the flailing limbs.

Ooh. I used the excavator. I plowed through zombie after zombie after zombie... I still prefer mini chainsaws though.

They get stuck in the zombies' faces until they pull them out. Then you can hit them and make them drop the hand and do it again.

You're supposed to be able to use the displays as cover, not that it has ever worked for me.

The game's really only fun so long as you don't jump for the massively powerful weapons. There's a certain combo of books that makes the small chainsaws last forfuckingever, but the game just gets boring at that point.

It's better as a free-roaming kill zombies and do the occasional sidequest game. Anything beyond that and I reach for something else.
