I'm a wizard. We know these things.

In war, one should seek to take and hold the high ground. From there, the enemy's movements are clearly visible, and he will struggle just to reach you, let alone fight you. High orbit is the highest ground there is.

Doesn't this fort already have a magma cannon that cannot be turned off?

survive, and thrive.

And do whatever you want. That's what the goal is. Just leave the place alive, and you'll be fine.

I've been playing DF a few weeks now, maybe a month. I've recently started playing one with a fast mod with dinosaurs (Including a few types of raptors and a few dinos that could stomp an army to death) and the Orcs mod. After this one has stopped, anyone interested in starting a bloodline game with that kinda stuff going?

you bet I am! Make sure we actually do things in journal format, though.

Turn is in progress. This fort takes a long time to get anything done. Over 2000 plants and zero Booze?!? No wonder! Everything is so disorganized, and all the animals are killing my quad core machine. I am into mid-summer now, and starting to get things under control. Of course, my turn is the turn a bunch of demanding nobles show up. A few ambushes to take care of also. If this is a standard fortress, I am way more of a perfectionist than I thought I was. My fortresses always run at 99 frames, and with more dwarfs! I suggest that in the future we use the new fast DF, the one with the OpenGL tweaks. It really helps a ton. If this isn't that version, I understand the slowness. If this already IS the fast version...Armok help us all.

I will get my turn done as quick as I can, but I think we can all agree, at this point a finished turn is better than an abandoned one. I am keeping a journal also, and will post the story when I am finished.

Allrighty, year 207 is wrapped up.
Spoiler:
Journal of Bhelliom Lanceslide, Brew Master - Year 207

1st Granite
I was told the job would be easy. Run the place for a year, Be free to brew the very best. Oh, the lies they tell. Upon my arrival at the equipment-strewn entrance of Fort PowerDragon, I was immediately struck by the rank odor emanating from within. The foulness physically pushed me back. How could anything of quality be produced in this hell-hole? In every direction all I saw were animals. Animals sleeping, animals eating, animals breeding. No wonder it stank so bad. I followed the smell back into the mountainside, until my eyes fell upon a horrible sight. It was an animal...pit. Donkeys, cats, dogs, horses, all climbing and writhing over each other trying to escape their own misery. I Immediately banged open the door to the accountants office to see how bad the situation was. Armok, it is worse than I thought! hundreds of dirty animals running about free! and No Drink! Like zombies my fellow dwarfs shuffled to the Well only often enough to not die from thirst! Clearly I have arrived just in time. I Immediately order all digging stopped, all the animals caged, and for booze to be made from the 2,400 plants in storage.

14th Granite
While trying to make sense of the insane layout my predecessor had established, a runner informed my that Elves had been spotted approaching the Fort. Normally I detest those damn stinking elves, but there was a chance they had alcohol of some form. I order the guards to stand down, and allow them to enter. When I arrived at the trading post, I discovered what I had feared the most. Apparently these elves did not trade in the "Demon Water" as they called it. I cursed their race and traded some worthless stone mugs for all the wood they had. Maybe now I can get some barrels made for my brew. After trading the wood, the caravan lingered a little long in the Depot. They were for some reason unable to leave, crying about a magma channel that was uncrossable. I helpfully suggested to them that they could just wade across it, but they politely declined. Damn Elves. I ordered a small bridge made for crossing the channel and screamed at the elves until they left.

4th Slate
While making the trek down to the distillery, I happened upon a human wandering the fort. He looked tired and malnourished, clearly about to lose his mind. He was babbling about some trade agreement, so I escorted his ass up to meet with the mayor. Not my problem. Apparently he was able to find his way out after delivering his message.

5th Slate
A crafts dwarf, Sazir Okangcog, was taken by a fey mood today. the glazed over look on his eyes as he drifted off to a workshop chilled me to the bone. I followed him to the Clothier workshop where he began to work with demonic speed. In the end he produced with a cry a legendary Cave Spider Silk Coat. Exhausted, he retired to his room, leaving others to put away his masterpiece.

7th Slate
Despite my being here for over a month, thinks are still wildly out of control. Animals are running free, and still no decent alcohol. Every barrel that gets produced is being used to store more of those damn plants. And to top it all off, a small herd of nobles arrived and started making demands. I had to get rooms set up for the new Tax Collector, Hammerer, Baron, and Baroness Consort. Armok, all I want to do is Brew!

19th Hematite
A goblin ambush claimed the life of one of the woodcutters, Bim Nazommeng. I had the Guard dispatched, but the cowardly goblins melted off into the wilderness before we could catch them.

25th Hematite
A woodcutter spotted the ambushers again, and I recalled all non-military dwarfs inside the fort. Maybe the goblins will chase the woodcutters back to their awaiting doom.

5th Malachite
Human Caravan Arrived, I traded some goblin weaponry to them for some weak booze and every barrel they have. The lack of barrels is really cramping my style.

6th Galena
Zombie Goats strayed too near to the fort entrance, and I allowed our force of champions to deal with them. The enthusiasm they have for killing animals is quite disturbing.

2nd Sandstone
No matter how many Zombie Goats I order killed, more keep coming! and now a Zombie Eagle is circling overhead. Hopefully it will leave us alone. A miner also had a Strange Mood. He revealed at the end of his seclusion a wondrous Microcline Cabinet. I order it installed in my office.

9th Sandstone
The Zombie Eagle is causing too much trouble. I ordered it to be slain with extreme prejudice.

15th Sandstone
In the hopes that my reign here not be worthless, I order exploratory mining to be resumed. In a matter of days a rich vein of Silver was struck! Finally there will be something decent to drink my glorious alcohol from!

27th Sandstone
Some Platinum and a huge vein of Gold! Praise be to the miners!

8th Timber
Some greedy migrants arrive. Ha! they shall work for their place here! I order them drafted into the City Guard and Royal Guard.

23rd Timber
A leather worker was taken by a Strange Mood today. He kept babbling on about something he just HAD to make. I watched what materials he was gathering. He claimed some trout bones, some grabbo blocks and some mule leather. Let me state now that my hopes are not high.

1st Moonstone
The leather worker ended up making a Mule Leather Shield valued at 5400. At least it isn't a bucket or something.

16th Moonstone
Sigun Olinginon, a Royal Guard, somehow managed to kill herself. I know not the details, only of her passing. Her body was rushed off to the crypt by some embarrassed looking Guards before I could see the corpse.

7th Opal
Another Guard bites the dust. I interrogate the other Guards to find out what is happening. Apparently they are whacking each other with sharp metal objects whilst not wearing any armor. Instead of explaining why this is a poor idea, I order no weapons be used and for all training to take place in Plate Armor and Shields. maybe this will stem the tide of idiocy.

16th Obsidian
I ordered some low income housing to be built on the main floor. Maybe this will allow some of us to sleep where we can afford too. It Has GOT to be better than sleeping in the Barracks.

1st Granite Year 208
I have done all I can for this fortress. I hope my replacement can get things more organized so I can brew my booze in peace.

Here is the save file.

Letsee... The order is..

14. OOTD
15. InstinctSage
16. Phen
17. SexyTalon
18. Kipper
19. Superglucose
20. aireoth
21. Bhelliom

So we could throw you in at 22. I'm guessing OOTD is out for now, so that means InstinctSage is up next.
