But I was really wondering if there was someone who would have some idea of a plan to adopt for my future zombie pigman dealings that would leave me with an all peaceful pigman future at some point in time.
I believe that when you anger a pigman, all of its 'tribe' gets angered as well. Tribes are sometimes close enough, and pigmen wander enough, that it can be hard to tell whether a pigman will be hostile until they attack you. I don't think time spent away will get a tribe to forget its murdered member.

If that's the case then tribes are distributed pretty oddly, with no simple way to get from one part of the tribe to the other, plus there's one ZP that I'm sure was hostile and not killed... but it might have despawned at some time.

Which leaves only one solution. KILL THEM ALL!

Just letting y'all know that the Aether mod is out, and is totally awesome. It's a floating islands type dimension with completely new blocks, items and mobs. It's everything Notch should have done yet didn't/hasn't with the Nether, you should try it.

I purposefully bookmarked that and have been checking it every now and again so I'd know when it was released.

Seems a little too much to me honestly. I like things that compliment the existing minecraft experience, which is why I was so stoked about better than wolves. This aether mod is a completely different, parallel game, it seems

It does compliment the existing minecraft experience. You get a bunch of new blocks, tools, items, and mobs. It's basically what the nether should have been, except light-side, and way more dangerous than it looks. I've been, shot, poisoned, knocked off a tower by flying things that shoot snowballs at you, nearly eaten by several things I was not expecting to even move, and run down by what seemed to be an invincible 4x4 cube. I like it.

I guess it depends on what you consider to be the minecraft experience. It seems like the nether doesn't increase the creative expression palette hugely, but it does add to the "gaming" nature quite obviously. Its the basic tension that exists when you load up a world and consider what to do - fight some monsters, explore a cavern or use what you've already got and create something. If you like fighting monsters and upgrading your kit, its a great mod. If that isn't what you come to minecraft for, its interesting, but a bit of a meh.

Regarding what the nether should have been, its been at least nine fourths more interesting since the glowstone block change. Its geographical (hadeographical?) structure is also something that I've been trying to figure out recently, since there's been a goodish reason to be there.

Hmm, can't seem to get it to work. Then again, I've never installed a mod before, so I'm likely doing something wrong.

I downloaded all four of the mods and then basically just followed the instructions on the modloader page:
Spoiler:
Macintosh:
1) Go to Applications>Utilities and open terminal.
2) Type in the following, line by line:

Code: Select all

cd ~
mkdir mctmp
cd mctmp
jar xf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar

3) Outside of terminal, copy all the files and folders into the mctmp directory.
4) Back inside terminal, type in the following:

Code: Select all

rm META-INF/MOJANG_C.*
jar uf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar ./
cd ..
rm -rf mctmp

5) Run Minecraft, enjoy!

Fired up minecraft, started a new world, hacked in the glowstone and water, built a portal, tried to activate with the water, nothing special happened.

Anyone know how to make it work?

Were you using a water block or a bucket of water? You might also have to put it at the bottom of the gate if you did not do that.

I guess. I think I hear "Legos" more often than "Lego" as the plural form.

Yeah, despite the Lego website and literature yelling at us about it, we still just slap an S on it and call it plural.

Well, he did go on about a sky realm, but it'll be shit compared to this mod, so don't get your hopes up. Instead, you'll get to tame donkeys. They'll have very small inventories and'll follow you around, but don't take them anywhere because their pathfinding is shit and they'll manage to kill themselves. But, at least when you yell out "you stupid ass," you'll be correct about it.

Have you tried using an inventory edit mod to give yourself an aether portal block (ie the translucent portal substance that lives in the gate), and then placing it and using that to travel to the new realm?

I seem to have gotten it to work. The issue was something to do with putting whole folders in minecraft.jar instead of copying over their contents. However, now I have no sound and my inventory editor (InvGrid) doesn't work.

do you have audiomod? and TooManyItems works (although the mod creators set it up so that not every Aether item is in it).
