For the record, I probably won't be on until 1.3 comes out. Combination of life things and not wanting to use the current enchanting system.

fyi, the barn with the mooshrooms and pigs, is up and running now. Pigs are upstairs, but they're kinda pointless because the drop rate of pig flesh is lower than cowflesh, and you don't get leather. They might be fun for riding to their death at some point though. There's wheat and iron swords in the chest out front. Please, feed and breed before you kill.

What do pacifists do if the portal can't be made? Do they just lose automatically and have to leave, or what?

If you make a portal in the nether and it is in a ocean in the real world you get the portal in a cave underground. I've had VERY recent experience with that. I got pretty much exactly wha i wanted, a mineshaft and a mystic squared room. Though not even on gold level... :)

Ok, so we're using the group for communication, or what's a cracked account?

Also you probably missed this question because I lumped it together with the first one, so I'll ask again: Would it be considered cheating to explore the map beforehand and know where the eyes are at?

And after looking at the start of the map I have another question: what do pacifists do if the portal can't be made? Do they just lose automatically and have to leave, or what?

I'd imagine A) it'd be kinda poor sportsmanship, B) it'd be really hard to tell if you've done it, and C) people'd find out anyways after a few playthroughs.

And Re:station

I thought you meant shifting the track laterally. Extending or contracting it's fine.

That barely ever happens because there are so many eyes in the map. Even if it did it would be nearly impossible to tell. Most of the time the traitor comes out and then you have to battle him, in the pacifists case he has to run away collecting eyes for long enough.

I'm lucky Snark has a fortune pick since I died with it in a cave (not in lava, monsters). I couldn't find my way back so I simply lost it. :(

Had another go at installing OptiFine and this time it worked! It'll take me a while to twerk it, I assume, but even with the recommended settings I found (and without going below 'normal' render distance) I'm getting around 20 fps fairly consistently and sometimes as high as 45, though that doesn't last. I'd love to know what makes it fluctuate so much...

(Thanks! to the folk who gave some help.)

A couple things I recommend, disable fog and set render distance to between small and tiny. Also turn on advanced something or other, these two things should increase the frame rate more than the other tweaks, you may want to disable rain ftwo settings, one is the rain particles and the other is the rain splash, comPletely disables rain visually and sound wise. As for the changes in framerate it could be caused by the game rendering more entities or terrain or loading the world, not much that can be pinned down without a lot of testing.

Iv finished my bank and vault. Its under the station on the north avenue on the left, and is well signposted.

Theres a prize inside if you can break in without destroying any blocks (im working on an honesty system here!) But snark reckons its 3 days to go through all the combos so good luck.

18 levers. 2^18 combos. And you have to hit a button in between combos to test your solution. So even a ridiculously fast check of 1 solution per second will take you 2^18 seconds = 72.8 hours = over 3 days. I think it would actually take about 5 seconds on average per check. So 15 days for exhaustive search and 7.5 days on average.

There's no way I'm attempting that. And I even got to glance at the solution when I got a tour. (Unless wam opened the vault by another means that I missed).

Nope you got a glimpse of the combo! I have a saved screenshot of the combo so that I can open it. Will post it in a couple of weeks so people can get in and have a look at the mechanism.

Edit 2 Roos in the end I didn't end up moving anything around or altering the station that muchl, I just put a roof on it and doors.

Well, that was a fun riddle! I'm spoilering my solution below:

Spoiler:

Image
Hmm... this is a lot of levers.
* ChrisPKale fails to find a combination in three attempts.

Image
Wait a minute, no one said anything against placing blocks. Now where are my slime balls?

Image
All rightie, fifteen minute delay to find slime balls and get melons. What was I doing again?

Image
Ah, there we go, this should let me see into the room beyond.

Image
Bugger.

Image
The solution is obvious. More Pistons!

Image
This is becoming quite the mess...

Image
Drat, broke a lever. One of mine fortunately, but still, I guess that means I fail...

Image
Pity, I would have liked a prize :(

Hopefully no one minds me breaking some blocks to get the door back in place (nor minds the additional prizes I've added).

The Narnian Arms is working on a different method of security called, Oh, so you want to die in a pool of lava, well that's nice.

Also interesting, there was an article I read today that actually points out robbing a bank is a waste of your time as you might get enough money to live a lower middle class lifestyle for half a year out of it. And that's if you're British. You do worse in American banks.

[snark] The Kaledonian Chemistry department has a skin cream to counter the Narnian Lava Deployments... [/snark]

As for the bank robbery article, that's not that surprising, I guess. If you could rob one bank and retire, you probably wouldn't see many bank robbery sprees, as presumably the risk to reward ratio would shift drastically if you were making the kind of money one sees in a Hollywood vault bust.

Whilst not really the challenge I was setting I am impressed. Although I was considering putting a large door with a Lava core in it but didn't have enough blocks or time (as it would have meant I needed more obsidian).

Probably the only way to create a truly full-obsidian vault would be to use water chutes and dispensers.

That would be awesome if you could manage it.

The other idea I had and I will build this at somepoint in the future is to do a safety deposit box system using storage minecarts and a panel to select which one you want. I need to go away and play in creative mode though to work out the wiring.

Bank Robbery is a part time job, something you do while you're working another job because you just want a couple thousand 'bonus' to buy some nice things for yourself. Bank robbery is obviously a horrible way to go if it is the only job you do and you do it infrequently. If you want something like that you should go on one of those crab boats.

Levers, on roofs? this will make redstone lamps floor based lighting systems in the sky much better looking... and make more complex lever-based combination locks doable. Now all I want is buttons for the roof and floor.

Anyways, my sky base is slowly coming together... slowly. I also enchanted a diamond pick (lvl 50) and got efficiency 5 and fortune 3. This is going to stay in my chest until I go mining.

You should be fine - but I'm wondering how that happened. Diamond blocks usually don't just disappear, and most of us don't just take stuff (especially stuff as conspicuous as diamond blocks)...

All that's left is making an exit for villagers who end up in the golem waterslide, right now they're popping up under the bridge. Also, contrary to my first observations, villagers do eventually lose to the current and leave thier village borders.

Okay, I managed to get them out by using halfslabs and fishing rods.

They really try hard not to fall in water when they can, however. I wonder if we need a way to force them into the water.

Also, brian, you've got to win some sort of award for that water system.

Its not really clear from the wiki, but they say that if a kitten is a child of cats with different owners, then the colour of the kitten dictates who the owner is. That would tend to indicate that breeding another players cats would not end up with you owning a kitten. I am willing to do direct testing though.

So apparently the SSP bug still exists where you can ride a saddled pig in a minecart, and it will go at high speed without the need of powered rail. You can even build stops: if you get off before you reach (unpowered) powered rail, the pig will stop at it. Later, you can hop back in, and press A or D to get it to resume movement.

I'd test in SMP, but I have no saddles. It's also important to click on the pig, not the cart, or the pig will leave the cart.

Edit, since I don't want to mine or anything till 1.3:

Anyone up for a mass-skyblock game?

Here's my plan: scrap the statue hallway plan, and instead build a set of cobble slab walkways, starting from my sky city and then going over the ocean. It will be at y=220. It will simply be a loooooooong main walkway, branching off to the left and right every 256 meters. Each branch then goes another 128 meters before hitting the skyblock thing of dirt. So basically each player has a 128x128 block blank space around them. Since the walkways are slabs, this means you'll have all the mob spawns to yourself whenever you're alone.

Each skyblock has on it:
- 64 dirt blocks arranged in an L, with the top layer being grass
- A tree, built by hand to be exactly the same on all islands
- A chest
- 1 water block in the ground
- 1 lava bucket in the chest

And 32 meters away, the sand island:
- 3x3x3 (minus 1) block of sand
- a water block on the center top sand (hence the minus 1)
- 3x3x1 snow blocks supporting it
- One cactus on top
- A chest
- 1 melon in the chest

I think that's it. If an op is willing to help (and we get traction), it'd be really cool if we could also get 2 villager eggs per chest. This potentially means whole villages and maybe even iron farms!

The normal skyblock rules and goals exist. Maybe we can have a wall that showcases achievements. If you die and lose stuff, you're probably allowed to replace it from your personal stocks, just because you can't load up a new map here. Honor system as usual.

I think this is a pretty symbolic way to make a sky tribute to the server; everyone building things their way. I'd love to see what people make out of it.

Good day gentlemen,

Two days ago I sent a request for whitelisting, I am not sure if this is a normal amount of time to wait or not, but I would quite like to rejoin a multiplayer MC community and the XKCD servers have always been populated by most excellent folks.

I contacted Roosevelt, is he around normally? Sorry if this is inappropriately placed or anything, I mean no harm by it.
