The Wii, Nintendo, and their Audience - Philosophical Musing

Postby moopanda » Sat Nov 11, 2006 6:41 am UTC

So, I just preordered a Wii. I'm thinking what games to get with it. So far I've come up with, in order of wantingness:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

Any other suggestions? I figure an extra controller and nunchuck is also a good idea.

The new Rayman is supposed to be very good. I'm always a fan of Michael Ancel's games, so it seems like a safe bet. On an aside, if you haven't played it, check out Beyond Good & Evil.

Sadly, despite my bes efforts I've failed to preorder a Wii so far, and I'm going to be out of town on launch day. I think I'm stuck waiting until they're available at retail :(

I read Red Steel isn't too flash. So I'd recommend renting it first, and trying it out before purchasing it. Could save you, $80 upwards.

Also, no super smash brawl, moo panda?
I know it's not a release game, but surely it's on the back of all our minds. :)
And: Mario Party 8. It's gotta be sweet with the motion sensors and all. Unless of course you plan on playing your Wii mostly in solitude. Then do not heed my words. :?

Mmm...Metroid Prime III....*drools*
I'm a big fan of Metroid and I've liked the previous primes, so I bet the new one will be awesome too. The new Zelda and Mario games look ace too. Can't wait till it the Wii is released here!

Mmm I'm going to get Red Steel anyway. I can't pass up games with sword fighting in it.

And I can't wait till SSBB comes out! I am a god at SSBM!

Nah, it's just that some people prefer single player while others prefer multi-player. The case being that if they prefer single player, my games of choice would not be very suitable.

Also, Jigglypuff and Donkey Kong are two of my favourites, as they are hilarious till no end when you whoop ass with them and ...
I didnt see donkey kong in either of the two trailers for ssbb!!!

may nintendo have mercy on our souls.

I play as Marth mostly and I don't know anyone who can beat me at SSBM except my friend who also plays Marth and we always tie (well, I'll win one by a slither then he will etc.) which sorta sucks because I have no challenge D:

haha, i tell you, jigglypuff is a sweet character in ssbm :)

all you need is the pound attack (left/right+b)
it flings them in the opposite direction, and the range is bigger than they expect
also: very fast, so if they block it, you can land the next one before they can do an attack
and when done in mid-air, it does a sort of levitation thing, where gravity is like nulled for the duration of the attack, so you can float your way back to base by just spamming the pound attack or you can juggle opponents in mid air with ease.

as a nifty side move in ffa 4 player, the charge up b is funny, too :D

FURTHERMORE, who doesn't love the jigglypuff taunt?

actually
jiggles is the only character i can beat cruel melee with
i normally dislike her, because she has no ranged attack,
and shiek/zelda is awesome, so i usually use her,

I've done cruel with Mewtwo, Marth, Roy, Pikachu, Link and I think DK. But the last 2 were flukes. Pikachu I got 16 or so.

a) Statistical Likelihood based on Basically Decent representation

b) In the breeder's house. You get an egg.

somewhat like that dance in dragonballz where they merge, except, well you get an egg at the end of it
anyway
i don't really like pokemon

Oh, yeah, I remember now. I'm frightened. I remember that the egg was the size of your trainer, and larger than the pokemon, which might create some problems coming out, but I won't get into that.

Wii games cost $50. Where did you come up with $80??

I was initially going freaking crazy for Red Steel and I figured that would be the game I'd get, but I read something that said it wasn't the best thing in the universe like I thought. But then I saw the commercial for it, and I now know that it is the best game in the universe.

I will def take your advice for renting some other games first though. Like super monkey banana ball blitz bruhaha, or whatever it is.

I haven't been inside a blockbuster in years. Anyone know if you can rent DS games?

Australia, that's where. Pretty much every game that has a $50 RRP in the USA is $80 or more here. Our money's cheaper than your money!

It's more like $90 or even $100. Stupid nonsensical proprietary price mark-up.

Yeah, Zelda was AU$99. And when they scanned super monkey ball it came up as $199. I was like... wtf. But they didnt know the price yet, so they just made one up. Hopefully it will be ~$80.

Plus, Metal Slug isn't a laungh title here... noooooooooo!

The PS3, apart from not costing anything yet due to ridiculous delays, is expected to cost a thooooousand dollars. And I don't think it would be worth it, unless it like cures cancer or something.

i don't... i don't know, i am not a SeriousGamer TM, so maybe my say doesn't count... but is the ps3 not just a more powerful ps2, faster and better graphics etc? those things are cool but do not actually relate to quality of gameplay or the fun you'll have with your friends, whereas the wii seems to excel in those aspects, and innovation. i would go for the wii i think even if they were the same price, so for that much money... a bit steep i think sony.

I'll still be getting a PS3 (and the shinier one) despite their local price of $1000 RRP. I just enjoy the games too much, and I'll be able to keep using my PS2 library etcetera.

I'm definitely getting a Wii first though.
