On the 25th, you win the chance to win a digital greetings card if you buy the entire store.
It's all physics and stamp collecting.
It's not a particle or a wave. It's just an exchange.

Honestly, I am a sucker for steam sales, but that one hit my rage sensor. No. You do not do competitions which depend on you buying a £20 game (or several) to get an achievement in two days.

I mean, it's genius, but it's definitely evil genius. I'd simultaneously like to shake the hand of their marketing exec, while spitting on his/her shoes.

Oooh, I'll definitely check that Humble Indy Bumble thing. I bought it a while ago, and still have the installation files sitting on a USB stick. Having them hosted on Steam would be a lot more convenient.

Totally evil genius, but at least they threw a small bone to those that don't have or don't want to buy those games. I went on a spree last night of adding friends so I could at least get the one chance for that.

I'd love to play some steam games with xkcd people but idk what my steam ID is. When I'm in games it just says Sage so I guess that's it? I made my profile super long time ago when I used to play counterstrike over dial-up >.>

We obviously need to play together. We'd disable anyone from being able to move to a different floor of a building.

You don't have to get the achievement in 2 days, they can still be earned after the sale. Either way, I'm not seeing much wrong with this, but then again I don't feel the compulsive need to buy and play a game just to get a chance to enter a contest. I'm happy with my avatar and friends treasures so far. Even so, I'm still hoping to see games I haven't yet picked up but want or games that I have go up so I can get some more entries. Hasn't been the case yet.

Steam makes it so difficult not to buy all these games that go on sale. 5$ for a handful of unknown (to me) indie games, plus one I really want? Hell yes!

I was just reading the terms and conditions on this thing, and apparently you can also enter the draw manually by sending postcards with your steam ID on them. This makes no sense to me.

That's a required means of entry, iirc. It's possible to do that for all promotions like this I have yet seen.

Yep. They have to do it by law. If you ever see a sweepstakes on a box of cereal or whatever, you can usually send them an entry without having to buy the cereal. Something about it being discriminatory to people who can't afford cereal or whatever.

I'm still unsure of how you can mail a self-addressed postcard (that is explicitly required not to be in an envelope).

You know, that wont go to you.

Put the destination address on one side of the card, and your address on the other, and keep sending it until you stop receiving it.

I would think it has something to do with gambling, actually.

It is tempting to send in said card and get it over with, but on the other hand, hats. HAAAAAAATSSSS

They ought to try a "Mail a postcard to Steam, get Mercury's Helmet for the Scout" promotion or something, just to see what they can get away with.

Anyway, the sale you link to seems to have expired. But it'll be five bucks somewhere in the next few weeks, I bet.

Still displaying as $9.99 on this computer (work computer, and I haven't accessed the site before on it, so it's definately not a caching problem).

Impulse now popped up sometime while I was sleeping with the daily holiday deal for today, so I don't think it's expired? It's also listed here.

Amnesia: Dark Descent is on sale this weekend, half off at 9.99. Great fucking game, and that's a great deal. I'd easily recommended it if you have any interest at all in horror games.

Darksiders is half off on Direct2Drive until Monday, combined with the promo code HOHOHO will get you 20% off that, bringing it down to $16. Registers on Steam.

I still find this "announcement" hilarious, considering they said from the start that it would span three games.

They didn't announce that it's in development (that's been known since the release of ME2). What they did announce is release date and some plot information.

I bought L4D2 right as meatspace friends got bored with it (such is how my budget works) so yea I'd be up for some sometime. I'm arm_of_grendel.

I learned on the Steam forums that getting Crass Menagerie can be accomplished in about ten minutes if you install a harmless little 1 MB mod. This turned out to be accurate.

Unfortunately, the Steam forums only taught me that scoring 11.2 million points in the Bonus mode of Shatter is only likely to drive you insane and ruin whatever appreciation you might have for an otherwise fine Breakout game.

(By the way, you can still finish challenges from previous days, and count them towards getting those Hats; they just won't help you with the bi-daily draws.)
